This is BS!

About a month ago we here at work were asked to out a "Colleague Profile" which was basically an employment application but not quite. It asked about Employment History and Accomplishments. So I filled it out thinking my boss and the HR manager would review it.

Nope.

There they sit the whole management team all 15 of them look at each and every one of the “Colleague Profiles”. Why? My guess is layoffs, but myself along with everyone else is pissed off about this.

In a way I hope I get laid off just because I’m tired of being lied to and “sold” at the profit of our plant manager. About 3 years ago we had layoffs because things were so bad and no one got a bonus, except our plant manager, his secretary, engineering manager (plant manager’s brother-in-law), and the HR manager (who’s son looks just like our plant manager).

Hell, I’m about ready to go bust down the door in the conference room and quit. Fuck it!

Let me add the year we didn't get a bonus our CEO got a $7m bonus. Man it must have been a real bad year.

Oh yeah, and our plant manager gets a $2,000 bonus every month. If things are so tight why not eliminate that, nope lets just ruin people's lives.

Yep, I've just gone through a really screwed up situation in which I was laid off (as well as 95% of the employees) before the company was acquired. The 5% that were kept aboard? All upper-level management who drove the company into the ground.

Edit: Corporate America is REALLY screwed up right now.

Only a 7M bonus??...Things MUST be slow.

Here in Canada..we have it even worse..well some people do....the banks here each made close to 1 BILLION in profit......yet they layed off thousands of bank tellers..and raise our service charges so we get better service????

I could rant for days about banks..they piss me off like no ones buisness.

why should banks be obligated to keep a workforce they (presumably) don't need?

The point is they DO need them...when i wait 30-45 minutes to deposit or withdraw money from a teller...i would say they need a bigger workforce.

I refuse to use a bank machine and give those mother f@ckers anymore of my cash.

BallDog,

I had to do the same thing in my company and we had no layoffs. It was all part of a talent planning process to understand top/bottom performers and to better allocate personnel. It is not necessarily a bad sign that they are looking at them all at once.

Maybe they feel the Plant Manager is doing a great job and is essential to the operation...and other are expendable?

Lots of possibilities for something like that without there being layoffs. Could be a reorganization, a process evaluation, etc.

I'm glad my current place of employment is in an industry that's immune to recession.

it would be hard to get laid off from the "Will work for food" company. Or did you move to the "wash you windshield while the light is red" corporation?

Well, at least you have a Scholarship Fund. Makes me kind of glad I don't have to pay for college though.

Possibly, its just funny he won't hire anyone with less than an associates degree for any job but he doesn't have a degree of any kind and had no management experience. He just kissed ass on his way to the top. Went from a production line worker to plant manager.

It'd be interesting to know whether that AD policy is his rule or if its a company rule.

No. A billion Canadian in profit is actually -$200,450,999 USD.
