WSB-TV is reporting that Braves closer John Smoltz has been placed on the 15 day DL with tendonitis in his pitching elbow.
Q1 -- What did Cox know and when did he know it? Q1b -- Is that why we didn't see Smoltz against SF? Q2 -- How bad does the decision to basically stand pat at the trade deadline look now? Q3 -- WTF is gonna close now? Mercker? King? Marquis? |

Wow. The SF thing is the first thought to pop into my mind. When was the last game he pitched?

He's pitched since SF. Didn't he get a save in the COlorado series?

Get this. Buck Belue was at a celeberity golf tournment hosted by Smoltz earlier this week. He said that he saw Smoltz and Scheurholtz talking together in a rather involved conversation for a good thirty minutes. They were waving away other people as they talked. He might have seen this developing then.

Another division title, another playoff disaster for the Braves.

I predict that whether or not we have Smoltz healthy. |

Being a Padres fan, I'm down with a Marcus Giles for Rod Beck trade, but I suspect the Braves won't go for that.

ESPN article says that Smoltz says he couldn't have pitched during the SF series and that part of the reason he's going on the DL now is to take some of the heat off of Cox.
Maybe that's true ... but the heat won't go away, it'll simply shift to Schuerholz.

Nope. The Braves organization has won a few WS (one of which was in Atlanta) since then. |
