Any idea why PureSim uses points instead of $?

My guess it's because he may want to market it with a MLBPA license in the future (or a mass publisher might want to), and we all know how MLBPA feels about using dollars in sims like that. Simply absurd. If he didn't have any intention of growing into a mass produced product, or any intent to get MLBPA license, it doesn't make sense to go with points.

I was fired up to get the game, then found out about the point system. So I didn't get it because its seems like to much of a pain to learn something different from what I already know--$$$.

In any case, it has always bugged me that the game doesn't use money, and that is the main reason I don't buy it.

Actually, I think Shaun has made the switch, is seriously considering it, and/or will make it a user's choice at the start of an association.

A lot people just X100 the points and there is your dollar amount, which seems to be a pretty close adjustment. (The highest I've seen has been just over 70,000 points, so that'd be $7,000,000)

Thanks for the info. If he does that, I'd definitely get it. I'll keep my eye out.

Yep, 2004 will be $. You guys wore me out

I'm also just now completing some additional code that adjusts the salaries based on the time period. That was one of the nice things about points is they provided a level of abstraction from the real world thus avoiding "I started a season in 1901 and a guy is making $10,000,000 that is silly!" type comments... So, from a suspension of disbelief standpoint I liked it -- (ironically, for many folks it actually impeded their SOD because they couldn't get by the points thing.)

Things also get complicated as the years pass. Anybody care to hazard a guess as to what the average salary will be in 2079?

To me, the points were smaller, easier to track numbers, but now that I have $$$ in there it isn't so bad. In fact it's kind of cool (OK I admit it!)

My #1 goal for PureSim 2004 is to attack a broader market, and things like $ over points and an in-game animated graphics engine, ambient sound etc. should all help. I believe there are thousands of people that would love "text sims" if they just gave them a try. Finding the formula to get them to give it a shot is the elusive goal here.

Of course as the big name games (Madden, MVP etc...) add more franchise and sim features I wonder exactly how long this genre can last {gulp}.

Shaun

Thank you for joining in as always, Shaun.

Although I think the text genre will always remain niche, I think the market will remain. No matter how much they try to add, the big name sports games seems to always concentrate on the graphical area first (as is usually evident in their announcements) so the goofballs who loves numbers will most likely always come back to the text games.

EA will remain behind the times on this kind of stuff for the indefinite future. They always stop short of getting it right. They may help serve as an introduction into the genre, but I can't imagine them being able to knock it off.

.... That and some people just don't want graphics at all. They want a no-fills type game that will give them what they crave.. stats! No matter how realistic madden gets with their sim engine, I don't believe that it will ever replace the football text sims.

Isn't Mount Pleasant, SC where the MothMan resided?
