Wanna see a HT-esque game take form?

Dunno if I'll ever finish it, but I've made dents. Kinda spiffy.

Presently working on an online college basketball sim, on the same sorta spin as Hattrick. (With inspiration also taken from TCY)

Why college bball? Low number of players to deal with on a single team, and it's reasonable to have a buttload of schools. I have a rough plan on setting up conferences, and the motherload of the 64 team tourney at the end of a season.

At any rate, I'll take the first 5 people who post and are actually interested in me setting up an account for them. Note there won't be a helluva lot you can do for awhile (other than watch as new pages pop up), but I thought some of you may be interested in seeing a development cycle of a game like this from start to (hopefully) finish.

Once I hopefully get a more working game going, I'd like to use you guys as my guniea pigs for tweakage feedback, etc. We'll see how it goes!

Heck, I guess I'll volunteer to guinea pig. Although, it depends on when you need stuff done. As the year gets towards late October, death will set in with my school schedule.

Not for the first five folks. That's just for anyone who wants to take a look around while I'm building.

I'd open to everyone, but right now I have to manually generate teams, so I'm just doing it for a handful who wanna look.

Actual testing of things happens later, and I'd like to use the general FOFC populous for that one.

Maybe since I volunteered to take Kansas in GoldenEagle's football project when he gets it done, I should "volunteer" to take KU in college hoops

very interesting...

first question:

one of the most fascinating things about hattrick is that you can put players on the market...how would you go about in this game getting new blood? would it have to happen after the season was over, etc?

still, quite interesting...I'm in.

Even better, I have a couple of guys with "Mental: negligable" with GPAs of 3.20 and 3.89 but my king brick with a sub 1 GPA is "Mental: decent". He just doesn't apply himself

If you notice the recruiting section, that's part of the beginning design plan.

My plan for that is along the lines of...

About 1/3rd into the season, the wad of high school kiddies get generated. From then till the end of the season, you rank a list of (some number) of players, and a position priority.

In english...you rank say 20 players from 1-20 in order of how bad you want them.

You also rank your order of positions from worst to best, so the game knows if you get that stud C, it won't go for another center, (if you had say 3 centers at the top of you 1-20 list) it'll move to your next priority.

The plan is to have the kids select schools based on similar (but not as indepth) desires as TCY. Some might go for the powerhouses, some might go for the brainiac schools, some may go for exactly the opposite. (the build a winner schools and the 'hey, a school that doesn't give a SHIT how poorly educated I am!' schools) Crosscheck that with your recruiting list, add some random chance, and there ya go.

I'm toying with an idea of Junior College transfers as well during the season. Not realistic, but it could be fun.

S'what you get with the quick and dirty utterly random player generator.

Names are quite entertaining too. Old database of Britsh baby names I used to generate character cards for a paintball scenario game.

Hey CW...like the others, I'd be interested in helping. I've usually got at least a few hours online a day, and I'm guaranteed about an hour or so before I go to bed, so as long as things aren't time sensitive, I'd be happy to help.

Tell ya what, after I feel like taking a break, I'll finish up the 10 team conference with whoever else wants in. Think there's 4 more slots.

Just so you know, it's not like there's much of anything you can do except look at things. Nothing interactive really works, aside from searching through recruits and changing your password.

And as I was telling GE, I still think my favorite feature thus far is also one of the most pointless pieces of fluff.

I have a database of every zip code in the USA. To generate hometowns, I pick a random 5 digit number, match it to a zip code, and boom. There's where homeboy is from.

It'll even balance properly as time goes on, since the big cities have way more zipcodes.

(Hey, it amuses me.)

Like I have said before, many use to think watching your mom change from a closet was weird. Look at where we are at now. Look where we are now. People change, times change, what is acceptable changes. As will man/animal loving.

Just so you guys know, I filled the last 10 slots of the test conference. I'll let everyone in to screw around once I actually get a signup function working, and add more conferences.

As a little update...

Conference Scheduling is done. Non conference games are in the works.

High school recruit generation done, with fully searchable prospect list. Actual recruiting is high on the list of things to do.

Starting lineups/reserves setup is done. You can set an overall offensive/defensive game plan (yes, I had to include a 'run and shoot' option), and you can give your starting 5 individual orders.

Many other minor things that mainly involve administrative/automation shit, but those are the big milestones.

And as the other inside joke in the game thus far...

The highest possible rating a player can have is colossal.

Heh, think I overdid it a tad when I allowed 7'11" players into the height gen.

Everyone I generate for the temp stuff is a PG right now.

To answer vex, no shooting or passing skill or anything real 'obvious' because I didn't want it to be that obvious. "Shooting" as it were, is based more upon how aggressive you are, how well you can control the ball, etc, etc, etc.

Note the zero documentation right now. There won't be for awhile.

Thing(s) that got done today.

Interactive side of recruiting system is in. Fairly simplistic, and changed somewhat from my original plan. I like this better. Easier.

There are 3 levels of recruiting. Heavy, Moderate, Light. You can select up to 5 players for each level of recruitment. At 3 points during the season, the game will parse the recruit list, and commit a few people. If any of your recruits commit, you have those slots available to reset to another player.

How players actually choose their school is simple (mathmatic formulas aside). Recruits will not base their decision on how long you have recruited, only how high your level is at the time of running (along with their likes/dislikes, of course). This way you don't have to worry about racing to be the first one to recruit someone right when the lists pop up. It's a competative system, but not based on how often you can login. As long as you have time every 3 weeks or so to hop in and set a list of 15 players, you're fine.

I also made some tweaks to the player generator. Should hopefully be seeing a lot less ultra short players and ultra tall players, and I capped maximum height at 7'5", instead of the ungodly 7'11".

Should be fixed now. Thanks.

Yes, for the record, every team has a small random seed when they are created. This random seed alters what you see when you view player's ratings. Doesn't alter the true stats, just what gets returned to you.

Yes, it can be beaten. But, it'd take a lot of effort to do so, with several teams working together to try and get a read on it.

And hey, if you go to the trouble to figure out the seed, more power to ya.
