Foreigners
This may have been discussed before my time, or I may have missed it, but...
How many foreign players do you have? I ask because I am about to switch from keeper training (since I sold my 18yo excellent already) and am in the market for 17yo player trainees, but the market in the US is not large and it's hard to get them without lots of time that I don't really have to watch for players with deadlines I can't be on for. Do you pay the extra and go foreign for trainees as a matter of practicality, or do you wait (semi-patiently...or not too patiently, as the case may be) as long as it takes to get home grown talent? Thanks to whomever for your assistance.

I usually go for the best deal. That said, my team only has three foreign players.

I train playmaking and always go for the best deal, no matter where the player comes from. I only have 4 Canadian players on my squad. Maybe this strategy will change when I actually need much better, thus higher salaried, players. Right now, my squad's salary is manageable, so I'll keep going that way...

I have an all-US squad. I'm not sure why I originally decided I wanted one, but it's one of the limitations I've put on myself.
It works out OK for me so far. ![]() ~terpk

Yea', I'm set up similar to CW.
15 Americans... 3 Swedes... 2 Swiss... 1 Dane... 1 Spaniard... 1 Brit... 1 Romanian... So, in other words, 15 Americans, and 9 Europeans make up my squad.

Amongst the players...
Two from Switzerland (one my primary keeper trainee, but purchased when I was still really green) One from Finland One from Romania (purchased on the U.S. market) The 20% for my keeper isn't hurting me right now, but I doubt I'll be able to survive it after next season. Then again, with that much keeper training under his belt, he'll probably be high enough that I wouldn't be able to afford him anyway.

Of my keeper trainees, one is American and the other is Hungarian.
The reason I am not training two Americans is because I wanted to have a player make a U-20 team. I couldn't afford the top American keepers at the beginning of last season so I bought a 17 year old passable from another country. Of my other players, I try to get Americans but that plan doesn't work out too well. I just go out and find the best value I can and don't want to overpay just to get players from my home country. My team is as follows: 9 USA (4 starters) 2 Nederland 2 Sverige 1 Polska 1 Slovenija 1 Prathet Thai 1 England 1 Portugal 1 Magyarország 1 Uruguay 1 Indonesia Yeah, I'm like the United Nations... |

Hmmm . . .
8 Americans 5 Swedes 3 Norwegians 2 Aussies 2 Spaniards 1 Dane 1 Dutch 1 Thai 1 Malaysian 1 Fin 1 Portuguese 1 Belgian What I find funny is that I tend to go back to the markets where I have gotten really good deals on players. Outside of US and Sweden, I bet everybody has their "short list" of countries they search when they are in a hurry. I still haven't found that Icelandic player to fill out my Scandanavian contingency, though. Almost had one, but he was a young star and soon got bid through the roof. |
