Unhappy EMI Music & copy control

I was thinking about buying the latest Jane's Addiction CD this afternoon, so I dropped by the local music store and checked it out. I was just about to buy it when I saw a little sticker in the bottom right of the front of the disk. "COPY CONTROLLED, see back for details" it said. I looked in the back and only saw some small notice saying on what kind of player it should play, with even computer minimal requirements... It also said that this disk may not play on all player... mmmh...

I decided not to buy the disk today and go online to do some search about this "copy control" stuff. Has this been discussed around here? I found some interesting (yet not too funny) stuff. On some CD players, those "copy controlled" CDs just won't play, especially on diskman and in car audio systems, since these system use some error correction to keep the CD from skipping.

Also, and this is what makes me unhappy, this copy protection is especially made to keep you from ripping the disk to your hard drive. I know they want to keep anybody from ripping and sharing, but I do it and don't share it at all!!! For crying out loud, I go buy the friggnig CD!!! In fact, I rip in WMA format and use the copy protection from windows media player. I do this to keep from having to play toaster with my disk drive, going back and forth between disks...

Anyway, this sort of pissed me off today. I know they want to keep people from making illegal copies, and I'm not encouraging people to make illegal copies, but it sucks...

Would not even consider buying the CD. At college I don't have any CDs with me as for the purpose saving space I don't have a stereo and just have all of my CDs ripped and play everything off MP3s on my computer.
