Mt Rushmore (7 October)
Canadian Musicians/Musical Performers
1.) Leonard Cohen 2.) Doug McKenzie 3.) Paul Groening* 4.) B.B. King Paul Groening may the be the greatest musician ever to live, if you don't include the guy from riverdance. That said, Groening has not been the same since 'Honest' Ray left the band to become an accountant. That said, Groening may still be the greatest musician ever to live if you figure that Herbie (sometimes Hermie) the Elf was claymation. That said, Herbie was pretty doggone good for a hunk of colored (modern meaning) clay. That said, his doughy fingers could not work a zither without getting lopped off. Groening never had that problem, and thus he is the greatest musician ever to live. God Bless Canerica is almost a second Canadian national anthem. Little known is that Groening often stepped outside of his usual genre to pen tunes like "Thrift Store Zamboni for Hanukah." I had to leave of popular pick Geddy Lee becuase he is a pompus prick who comonly steals material from Paul McCartney.

Is it weird that I am running through my list of West Virginia Musicians and Performers right now?
Is it weirder that I'd take Brad Paisley over Celine Deion any day despite the fact that I loathe country? Is it weird that I am asking these questions rhetorically knowing full weel that some smart ass will answer? -Anxiety

Wasn't sure whether to take this seriously...
Neil Young Chad Allan Anne Murray Bryan Adams I didn't know B.B. King was Canadian... but if armed with that knowledge, I'd probably be compelled to squeeze him in. |

I dislike most Canadian musicians with a passion, since they are usually free loading, government-funded, unoriginal hacks. That being said, I do have a few underground faves

I seem to have a thing for Canadian musicians, although I wouldn't know where to begin with a "Mount Rushmore" of them, since that suggests something more than just a list of favorites, and I don't know enough Canadian music history to do a proper "Mount Rushmore" list.
So, I'll just list some favorites! Rufus Wainwright (dual citizenship, actually) Hawksley Workman Jeff Martin, Stuart Chatwood, Jeff Burrows (Tea Party) ...and my mind is going blank on any others. Or maybe that's all there is, but those 3 are in my top 10 favorite artists.

I do have it. I love it, but the consensus from many of the fans from his website is that it's disappointing. It's definitely not the Hawksley from the first two albums - it's very subdued and "radio friendly." A few too many ballad-y songs that give the album a bit of a monotonous feel. It's only 9 songs (although there are two hidden tracks that are among the best on the album), and so that doesn't help either. In places, he almost sounds like Bono.
There are probably 4-5 great songs, and the rest are pretty good. For some people, most of it seems to be filler. I really love it. Smoke Baby is one of the coolest songs he's every done. Highly recommended. As is all of his stuff. If you like David Bowie/Harry Nilsson/Jeff Buckley (Hawksley's got like a 4 octave range) type stuff, you'll likely love Hawksley.

Cool, thanks - I already have his first two albums, so it was likely that this one was a lock for purchase. Even with your caveat, I'll likely be adding it to my collection shortly
