Are there any advantages to them (such as extra experience or anything)?

he means any match listed at cup (which is the only match that has overtime i believe) generally get better attendance ratings.
there are no advantages other than better attendance. the disadvantage is a greater chance of injury due to extra playing time. every second your player is on the field he has a chance of getting injuried. cup matches could go longer than 90 minutes because of OT, so they are on the field more.

I played a friendly with cup rules and went to overtime today, that's why I was asking. After we were still tied at the end of OT, I ended up losing 3-1 on penalty kicks.
