FOFCL: List your city (if fictional is decided)

This is to help with alignments and stuff in case we go that route with a fictional league.

I would like my team in Fort Worth (Texas). If Senator wants Fort Worth, I will take Waco.

edit: If we can somehow edit the starting cities, I would actually like one of the New Jersey markets (Newark?), while still calling it North Plainfield.

I'll take Stillwater, OK. If that doesn't work for the divisions or puts me in an impossible population situation, I'll go with Fort Collins, CO. (I'd pick Denver, but I'd like to have a gap between Bucc and my team. We can both compete for the ticket dollars of the Denver crowd)

Well, that depends on how things work. I'd like good ol' Tucker, GA, if it doesn't hurt me financially to do so.

I wonder if we'll be able to edit the city data. If not, teams located in larger cities with little competition may have an advantage. I could see Dallas, Denver, St. Louis, and possibly Chicago having a distinct advantage over places like Boston, Philly, Pittsburg, and DC.

Would be interesting to set all the city data equal so that no team has a financial advantage.

We have so many "ifs" going on right now. How 'bout we set up some voting on what we prefer so that we can have a solid idea of what is going on?

Well, until we know all the details of how multiplayer works, we might want to wait on some of those decisions.

Yes... I also suggest that instead of a poll, each person types their response. I will be happy to tab them up, this prevents a crooked ballot.

I agree. I also think we ought to have like a ranking sytem vote instead of just vote for one.

Should we start with the very basic?

Fictional team names or actual NFL team names.

I think it needs to start with rosters. If we are sticking with actual team rosters, I think the other decision would be affected.

I am going to be the Washington Senators, so HFP can have Fort Worth. Besides, you called it first.

Strike that.

I will be San Antonio then. I want to be in the same division as HFP so we can share the play sheet.

Don't know if this is already decided further up in this forum, but if not, I would like to see a team return to Anaheim. And I would want to control that team, if possible.

I'm all for whatever you guys decide is the best way to go with the cities, but I'd like to toss out some food for thought. There will inevitably be some turnover with the franchises, and it could be problematic finding replacement GM's to identify with the fictional cities. It would probably be more appealing for someone from Gresham, Oregon to take over the New Orleans Saints instead of taking over the Biloxi Boll Weevils.

I'd like to open this topic for discussion -- pros and cons -- and let's see if we can reach a consensus on this issue.

I'd like to play in Maassluis, Netherlands.
If relocating due to FOF's coordinates does not work, It be happy to land in the Netherlands Antilles.
Or if I have to take a city already in the game, I wouldn't mind being on a team located in some city that can be linked with my country, like New York.

But if location is largely superficial, i.e. we get into the file and change the name and not the coordinates (though I'm guessing someone will write a utility to do that, too) we can just rename the city in the cities file. I don't know if that would be that big a problem, as long as that turnover isn't constant. As for geographic alignment, I don't know if that should really be much of a concern anyhow. If there's an outlier here or there, so be it. The NFL still has its St. Louis' and Dallas' of the world.

I think you make some very good points and raise some issues:

How easy will it to be for us to really change the starting cities? Jim has already stated this is not a game feature, so we'd need a 3rd party program in order to do this.

Do we really want to deal with finances?

As the game stands we can change our starting cities in a completely cosmetic fashion, by just changing the city names to reflect where we want our teams to be stationed. While there will be some strange weather conditions at times, I think we all have the imagination to overcome minor issues like that. Therefore, we can appear to have 4 teams stationed in the Atlanta Metro area, but they'll really each be playing in the markets of Carolina, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Atlanta, and not killing each other financially.

This would also be favorable for when a new owner takes over a team. They can easily "move" the Princeton Snobs to become the Los Angeles Smog. That way we don't have to worry about someone taking over a team they're not really interested in, they'll have the chance to move them (again, in a completely cosmetic way).

I don't think any of us will care if we're raking in the largest profit as long as we're going 3-13 every year. The spirit of this multi-player league is to compete on the football field, not to compare our bottom lines. For these reasons, I'm in favor of us ignoring the bottom line finances.

I do however think we should create some sort of cap outside the game to determine coach and scouting hirings. Otherwise, what's to stop any of us from paying 100 million a year to ensure we bring in the best coach?

Jim said there would already be a limit on what you can spend on coaches, so that is there. I don't see any reason for us to concetrate on the bottom line. This should be about the teams and what happens on the field.

cthomer brought up a good point that was what I based my opinion that we start with fictional cities on. I'm assuming we're going to leave the original economic options as is, so my San Luis Obispo Burn will really be playing in a pre-established NFL market, not really San Luis Obispo. Like cthomer said, if this is the case, we can easily 'move' a franchise if a new owner takes over.

I agree with GrantDawg and cthomer in that I think most of us are more worried about on-the-field performance than the bottom line.

Trying to think of a good team name now.

Actually, there is a lady who lives in Conyers who thinks she can see the Virgin Mary.

So I thought about naming my team the Conyers Marys, but I may reconsider.

For the logo I'd probably use the picture that's in the "Ummmm....Skydog" thread.

SD, I'm surprised they don't use the logo on the helmet - it's a really cool logo.

As I stated in another thread, I'm available for making helmets, I've already done a load of them for that other league, and a couple for us here.

Could you change the colors of the logo to match the colors of the helmet? I like the helmet colors better.

In general, or to place it on the helmet? I should be able to do either.

I need a Newt in the logo, but I'd rather have an "Old School" helmet. No logo needed.

Red and Black are my favorite team colors, but I don't think it fits the "Newts." Probably colors close to the Oregon Ducks, with the green being prominent.

So maybe "Newts" in text on the helmet then, or completely blank?

Maybe a "C" or blank with a stripe. Don't put "Newts" on it.

Looks great. One small request, if it isn't too much trouble, can the color (in both) be less reddish and more maroonish? Something along the lines of this color:

Why the Newts? Is it a Monty Python reference, or do you really like those Geico commercials*?

* Yes, I know it isn't a newt in the Geico commercials.
