FOF2004 Play-byPlay

I'm really looking forward to both FOF2004 and TPF. I hope both have great sales (with many of us buying both) so each camp can finance another year of improving their products, so we all will be one step closer to the ultimate football sime this time next year. Competition will make both of these games great, hopefully.

One thing that concerned me about the recent Q&A with Jim was this:

"PrimeLord:Q: Have the game viewer along with the play by play been remodeled and updated?
JimG: No."

Maybe it was adressed elsewhere and I missed it, but I was really hoping for some improvement with the FOF play results. My main dissapointment FOF has always been the lack of suspense and tension in the way the play result is presented. For example, rather describing the play result line by line using language similar to that of an announcer, FOF just spits up the play result all at once, so that watching the game has all the excitement of reading a game log, which isn't much.

I think this is why you read many people who tried FOF but did not catch on describe it as "cold" or "sterile."

Thankfully, it looks like TPF has picked up on this, judging one of their screenshors ("Jackson wants to throw it. He rifles it over the middle....it falls incomplete. Looks like his intended receiver ran a bad route. They are really lucky that this one wasn't picked off. 2nd down.") Hopefully Jim will consider focusing more on this part of the fame, if he is not already doing so.

It seems to me that if the play-by-play description is lively and diverse then the games will be more exciting and suspenseful, resulting in deeper immersion into the game, which is what everyone wants.

Does anyone have more information on this?

I don't think you'll see much pbp improvement in any FOF incarnation. Jim's games tend to be more "in your head" type games, with the meat coming from accuracy and statistics.

I've been wishing for some graphics enhancements to FOF, nothing as electric as TPF, but something to get the eyes going. Maybe the addition of helmets will help?

I get what you are saying with the pbp, but the alternative might be something like Madden where you tired of the same old phrases time after time.

Yeah, I didn't buy 2k1, but I do remember the team colors and helmets. With the new game only allowing for 35x35 size helmets, aren't they going to be hard to see?

We need screenies with these 'helmets' so we can see what Jim means by this.

See the Diary thread for a comparison on helmet sizes.
