being competitive, but hoard away a bunch of cash, then unleash your rath on your series? This is my middle to long term plans.

not sure if i see the point in that unless your a team like the KC wizards or your by far the best team in your divison already.

...I'm not far-and-away the best, but as long as I'm comfortably in the top half, I'm thinking it's better to upgrade in a big way by saving up for one really strong player at a time, rather improving every position by increments...

ohhh im all for that Portnoise. Thats what im doing right now, my goal is to upgrade postions by about 2-3 levels at a time. So my starting solid goalie i'll replace with a formidable goalie etc...

I thought tucker was talking about saving up millions and millions for no reason... When you've got lower level teams like most of us FOFCers have. Saving up millions and millions over the course of a few seasons and not upgrading your team much in that time will hurt you more then it helps you IMO.

Here's something else I've been mulling over. I believe that there will be an inflationary trend in the next few seasons in HT.

This coming season will offer a great deal more in ticket revenues, combined with last seasons increase in supporter $$, there will be a good bit more $$ floating around on the average team.

With more $$ chasing the same number of players, that means inflation. The worst thing you can do during an inflationary period is to hold on to your $$. It's best to invest it, ideally in that which the inflation is chasing. In HT's case, the best mode of storage is in players.

If I fail to get my U-20 keeper this coming season, I will invest my $2.5M into some insane striker. This will help both my immediate team's interest, and also protect against the inflation that I -predict- will occur over the next couple seasons.

Right now I have nearly $9m, and if I could I would like to save it all season. Making nearly $100k from economists each week would be nice.

Also portnoise, I belive in just the opposite. I try to make sure most of my players are of eqaul talent rather than buying superstar players. That way my player's wages aren't as much. Right now I only pay about $100k each week, which is $50k below the II average.

Yeah, but that also because most II owners (and 95% of Hattrick players) don't care about wages or factor them into their calculations since it is much more subtle.

I know I don't pay attention to them at all.

Well there isn't much difference between the wage of a passable player and a formidable player. However, compare the wages of a brilliant player to those of a titanic. I don't understand some teams that have a player they pay $50k to while they still have a formidable starter somewhere else.

Yeah, TP, I still need to buy my way *up* to the formidable/brilliant range. :-) Really the dilemma is that I have 1.5M (canadian, mind you-) in the bank, which seems like a lot to me but isn't that much in the grand scheme, and am trying to resist spending it before I can amass a bigger pile to make a significant improvement (solid to formidable).

A chunk will probably go to stadiumage next week and the rest will go in the striker fund.

I agree fully with TP.

some guy in my series just spend his whole wad (which he seems to have been saving for 2-3 seasons) on a 9 star goalie. His central attack usually rates somewhere around mythical. Yet his midfield averages somewhere between excellent and formidable. He probably pays that goalie and one or two of his starting forwards, more then i pay my whole team. Yet i will have no problem holding possession rate against him this season. My team might not be as skilled but they will have a lot more chances to score then his will and he will still have difficulty beating me.

I have been upgrading a little at a time, and am in a tight situation now. I find myself unable to really challenge this season and broke, having just grabbed a 17yr old excellent middie for dirt cheap, and added on to the Icy Pich. Home games bring in a lot of money for us, and we look to contiune. My elder statesmen may be leaving and that should provide me with at least 1 - 1.3 mil. Of course I wouldn't be very competetive if they did. We may tread water this season and try harder next year.
