Thumbs up OT: Me-1 Fire-0

What a week. I have so many stories I could tell I could write a book.... maybe I will.

Anyways, we managed to get that mess contained when I left this morning. You guys in California should be proud of your firefighters there, they worked hard and didn't give up when it looked really bad. You will have to trust me on that, it was worse at midweek last week than what was supposedly reported. That said, I have never seen such damage ever in my years of doing this. If any of you can spare $5 to a official relief fund... trust me they need it desparately.

I believe I will sleep 5 days now.

Oh thanks for taking it easy on the misses.

Back when I was a little kid, and saw the Smokey the Bear ads: "Only you can prevent forest fires", that freaked me out a bit. That's a huge responsibility to lay on a four year old!

Great job, HFP, you did Fort Worth proud. I can't imagine what it was like the past few days. I did a little bit of fire work in Northern New Mexico, but nothing on the scale and amount of damage you saw. Hats off!

HFP, write the book, retire early. Seriously, books on stories about stuff liek this fly off the shelf.

More or less it'd be cool to buy a book and show it to everyone saying "I know him! I know him!" ...Popularity through association is all I have...

Is it just me, or is it utterly amazing that Jeeber has been able to keep up his massive PPD count for as long as he has? I figured it would slow down at some point. It hasn't.

My PPD should go down a point or two in mid December when I go on vacation to Accapulco. Of course, I'll probably make it all up when I get back and check all the threads that I missed.

Guess I just love this place too much (in an non-sexual way, unlike Marmel)...

Welcome back to the 'Plex, HFP? Did Ahnuld thank you personally- a big going home party with all his old female friends that he never touched?

PS- I am a bit confused by the location you have. (Location: Hell's half acre (aka Amon Carter)). As someone who grew-up in Ft. Worth, Amon Carter is not really where Hell's half acre was, I don't think. I believe it was down Jacksboro Hwy, which is a bit north of all the museums and other Amon Carter crap (especially the stadium). Of course, maybe it's just that Dallas sucks and I wish I could be back in Cowtown and my brain doesn't work any more...

Oh heh Hell's Half Acre is the field in Amon Carter Stadium. It started being called that in the 30's when Davey O Brien (yes the award is named after him) led them to the national championship in 1938. Just some old TCU lore.

But anyone who has ever been on Jacksboro hwy aka 199 after nightfall would consider it hell.

Every Saturday night it is the redneck parade.

I guess you are a young whippersnapper, but Hell's Half Acre is also what they called an area (aforementioned) where all the gambling halls, saloons and whorehouses were where the cowboys who came in on cattle drives from the stockyards used to blow off steam.

I've been going to TCU football games since the 60's. Heard the stadium called lots of things, but never that.

PS- if you ever watch ch 13 (PBS), they have been showing a History of the Stockyards show (locally produced, and not terribly well done, but interesting nonetheless) in which they talk about said area.

dola...

...'course, back then, all the kids would stay outside the stadium. Used to be a big old hill where some of the athletic complex is, outside the actual field, and we would all throw a little nerf kinda football around.

Didn't even know all those kids, nor they me, but it was more fun than watching the Frogs usually get their ass kicked, aside from the Norm Bulaich (sp.) years of "semi-glory."
