OT: heh this city has Frog Fever
This is pretty funny. All the local TV, radio and newspapers are really playing up this game tonight between TCU and Louisville. It is being called the biggest game in 65 years for TCU (I would say the 84 game vs Texas was the last one) but anyways...
Usually TCU gets about 4.3 seconds of airtime a week because this area has a lot of Texas, A&M and Tech alumni and they get appeased. Today the sports talk shows are broadcasting from the campus. Unheard of! Channel 8 just did a 5 minute segment! I even got a couple of phone calls this morning from some people who know I am a diehard Frog fan who wished us good luck. Yesterday when I was getting gas a stranger said "I saw your window sticker. (It's a little Frog Club logo) Man I hope you guys win." I feel like I am in the middle of watching Hoosiers, I just hope we have a similar ending. Unbeeeeeeeeelieeeeeeeeveable!

Tuesday Night AND Wednesday Night football?! Geez, this is getting out of hand.
Still, good luck. FSU owes Louisville for the storm game last year, I gues a loss to TCU is as good as any.

Hey HFP, how difficult do you think it would be for me to get a ticket at the game tonight? I have the evening off and am considering going over to Fort Worth to take the game in. Do you think it's going to be a sellout or should I have no problem finding a ticket for cheap?

You should be able to get a ticket but don't quote me on that. The weather as you can see outside now may become bad so that will keep some people away.
If you do go, leave early! Rush hour and the mixmaster are going to be a pain in the butt. I am leaving at 4:30 myself. If they are scalping I doubt it will be for much over face, but I would guess you can get some tickets at the ticket office still.

Wow, the '84 Horned Frogs. I almost forgot. I grew up in Fort Worth, so I remember the days of Jim Wacker and Kenneth Davis. My grandma went to TCU back in the glory days of Slingin' Sammy Baugh and Davey O'Brien. Glad to see that moving them out of the SWC has actually helped their program, rather than hurt. It's strange that Rice, Houston, and SMU haven't fared as well.

Wow, what an exciting inding to this game. Fourth and 15 for UL beyond midfield with 12 seconds left, they hit a long pass to the thirty with four seconds left. They are about to try a field goal to tie the game and send it into overtime.
Very exciting game...

1) Rah Rah, TCU!!
![]() 2) I agree it is pitiful to have games on tuesday or wednesday, just for money and exposure. Get better and get exposed...with or without the Jif. 3) With all the injuries to the secondary, people not attuned to TCU will assume the 400-500 yards given up passing each week is and was the norm 4) Being from Ft. Worth and living in the Metroplex still, it pains me to say I do not believe the Frogs are one of the 25 best teams in America at this time- though at 9-0, you HAVE to put them in the polls anyway.

Wow.... what a great atmosphere and college game. This game was a microcosm of the whole season.
thealmighty we don't get to be kings for a day around this area too often (like once every other decade) so enjoy it. When I saw the ball hit the crossbar I thought I heard a voice from the sky yelling Unbelieeeeeeeeeeevable! This one was for you Coach Wacker. Finally Ragone if you are reading this, you guys are going to be a bear in the Big East. It was a war and the type of game that should have had no loser. Who Wah Wah Who Give 'em hell TCU!

Well officially they are denying getting a Mountain West offer and the mountain west is saying they are going to vote on expansion in December.
As a fan I would like to stay put because the schools C-USA got just recently are all around here and I could travel to them. But if it really is a better conference then I would be fine with it. I hope they pick up another team or two anywhere near here because I would like to go to some of the road games. As it is now I save up for a bowl game.

Yeah, I know I know.... he was just a special person around here. He may not have been the best coach but he was someone who if you played for him would go to war for. You couldn't help it.

Well to be honest.. Conf Usa as a basketball conference would drop below just about everyone.. it would be like the old unlv conferences back in the tark era.. Thats gotta be what Memphis is hoping for right now
If i was tcu. Mount west would be best bet for them.. or maybe try to sneak into the big 12 :P |

What a game!
The Frogs are back! Congrats HFP! Oklahoma vs TCU in the Sugar Bowl - and then the biggest upset in BCS history.

God, I hope they win out. My first wish was the Northern Illinois would win out. It would have been brutal on the BCS guys to have not taken them with their non conference schedule.
If TCU wins out, they SHOULD get a shot against Oklahoma. (in a playoff) Yeah, they'd get their asses kicked. Think of how much fun it'll be to watch the one team like them that knocks off a #1 someday. Between an undefeated TCU team getting left out of the BCS and only 2 of the MAC teams getting bowl berths (when you could easily say 4 deserve them), there might just be enough to force the NCAA to do something. I am sorry, but I don't see a TCU team that has played that schedule of being worthy of a BCS bid. If there were a 16 team playoff, I don't think they would be worthy of that, but playing that schedule just does not earn any points from me.

DOLA. I doubt this. I think one thing that has proven consistent over the past few years is that the NCAA has lost virtually all power over football. Since there are stronger rumblings of big time football schools splitting off from the NCAA, the NCAA is more impotent than ever with regards to those schools.

I don't feel like addressing the scheduling issue again but just be aware that scheduling is done years in advance. TCU was ranked 29th in the preseason coaches poll. They were the defending C-USA champions and won the Liberty Bowl over Colorado State. Teams around them lost and as they have TCU has won. Blame the coaches and media who vote for them. TCU and Oklahoma are currently the only undefeated teams in Division 1-A. There is 22 1/2 BCS points difference between them. Georgia is .40 points behind TCU at #10 and they have 2 losses. You can blame the system and whatever else but TCU is not to blame for winning.

I am not trying to blame anyone. I just think that if the idea of the system is to have the two best teams play, TCU will have done nothing to prove they are one of those two by the end of the year. To me, how and why the schedule got the way it is, is of no consequence. At the end of the season, TCU will have beaten nobody, and thus won't deserve a spot.

The two best teams apply to the national championship game. It is statistically impossible for them to go even if every team above them lost another game.
You said TCU hasn't played anybody, yet they are 9th in the BCS so there has to be a fault somewhere in the system. Yet this is a system the 6 BCS conferences agreed upon. If anything the BCS should blame itself by giving a team not in their monopoly a chance to make some money off their own system which excludes every other team in D1-A with the exception of Notre Dame by design.

Do you think these schools have an inalienable right to some of the money that networks pay out? Schools aligning themselves and selling the product is private enterprise. There is no requirement that it be fair to everyone. ABC is willing to pay these exhorbitant fees because they believe people will watch games involving the best teams from those conferences. If they believed that the minor conferences would have increased ratings, ABC would have insisted they be included. I will soon be lamenting these facts with you, as my beloved institution has recently been relegated to a now-minor league. The Big East will be dropped from an automatic BCS slot not because of the drop in quality of football, but because of the perceived drop in quality of football, or at least, what ABC guesses the public will perceive as a drop in quality.

No these schools do not have an inalienable right to some of the money unless they meet the criteria. This criteria is the BCS rankings. I would be guessing but if TCU made a BCS bowl it would be the 2nd most watched game of the BCS bowls behind the national championship game. 80% would want to watch TCU get stomped in the ground and the other 20% would be rooting for them to win for all the little guys out there. You can't tell me the networks would not ride that horse.

See, to me it would have the opposite effect. As much as people claim that they are pulling for the little guy, I don't think we ever really see it translate into ratings. Give people the option of a Florida State/Ohio State Orange Bowl, or a Florida State/TCU Orange Bowl, and I think the OSU game would get the higher ratings. As somebody who was involved in sports broadcasting at a MAC school, I have seen first-hand how tough it is for the little guy to make it in the big college football landscape. Bowl games are unique in that they are a one-off matchup; people want to see what they perceive are the best teams out there in these games, and a lot of people don't give teams like TCU much credit. Personally, I would take a two-loss Georgia over TCU any day if I was in charge of scheduling one of these bowls myself. |

LOL, now I hope they do make the BCS, as I think this will be proven very wrong. If data from the NCAA tourney is at all applicable, schools from non-big 6 conferences are not very good draws. As much as the media loves stories about the underdog, and they get rooted for in the stadia, they don't sell well ratings wise. Die hard fans watch whoever plays. Casual to non-fans watch when teams/players they have heard of are playing. This means the teams that have been on tv all year, which means teams from the major conferences.

You are probably both right, but the other 3 BCS bowls are basically meaningless anyways unless you are a bowl maniac or a fan of one of the schools. A casual fan will only care about the championship. At least with TCU there is something to engage interest whether the public buys into it or not.
I really don't think they will get the invite either if they won out anyways.

I think it's top 6 in the BCS standings would lock them into a spot. A note here: I didn't argue that TCU should play OU for the national championship. I argued that TCU should have a crack at OU in a playoff. Those are a tad different. I think a TCU team that goes unbeaten would deserve a spot in a 16 team playoff. I still find it amusing that the NCAA and coaches claim to worry about the athletes study time, but don't give a damn about the kids in the lower divisions. TroyF |
