Mmmm, bacon...

Need I refer people to this and this?

What makes you think that animals suffer in slaughter houses anyway? I think it would rule to be raised for slaughter. Get all the free steroids you want, free meals and plenty of good company--hell, you have it made. Then when you're at the prime of your life, you get your head generously chopped off so you don't have to live through the suffering of old age. Not only that, but you can die with the satisfaction of knowing that somebody is going to enjoy eating a burger made out of you. What's more humane? Being slaughtered for meat or having to spend 8 hours a day, 40 hours per week in a cubicle for the rest of your life with assholes who listen to shitty music without headphones, then retiring and withering away with old age and cancer as your obnoxious kids grow up and treat you like shit? Slaughter please.

I had a conversation with a PETA spokesman on the air. I asked him about the fact that PETA kills thousands of stray dogs and cats every year. It went something like this:

PETA: well, we're just putting them out of their misery.

Me: But aren't a lot of these animals healthy and adoptable? I mean, you wouldn't advocate killing homeless people because they're living a miserable existance, would you?

PETA: well, unfortunately animals can't tell us what they think, so we can only do what we think is best for them.

Me: You're telling me you really think that little pug is thinking "Oh God, kill me now!!!", not "feed me, love me, give me a good home?" What if I think that cow I'm going to eat for lunch is really saying "kill me, eat me, let me serve a purpose. I want to be your lunch, Cam"? Am I suddenly not a bad person?

He didn't have an answer. PETA people are some of the most screwed up individuals I've ever met.

Cam, if that's how your talk went, it was a piss poor interview. :P

There are thousands of adoptable animals that go unadopted because there aren't enough people who want them (or visit the shelters that have them). Most shelters hate the fact that they have to put any animals down, but due to space and money constraints they're forced to as new animals constantly arrive. The interviewee didn't do a good job of answering the questions, but it wasn't like they were reasonable questions to answer.

I swear, sometimes I think you're more interested in getting your set point of view across than actually trying to arrive at the truth of a situation.

I think a group that is against animals being eaten should not have anything to do with killing animals that are just disposed of.

ding ding ding.

No Myths, PETA believe killing animals is wrong, except when they do it. In Virginia Beach, they execute over a thousand of these poor helpless creatures every year. Instead of spending millions of dollars on billboards equating eating chicken with the freaking Holocaust... how about using that money to help fund more shelters?

And if they continue to insist on killing innocent dogs and cats... why don't they donate the meat to homeless shelters and the fur to third world countries where they could be used as clothing? You ever see a two year old girl in a cat-fur coat? It's darling!

Side note: I'm taking environmental ethics this term (need philosophy course), and theres all these kids in there who say we need to save the environment, save the animals, fight corparate America... Nevermind these kids are wearing Abercrombie, driving around HUmmers/Lexuses/BMW, drnking starbucks, and generally live the rich life (their all in the rich frats/sororities). I just want to kill these wannabe hippies... fucking save your money and feed the poor, don't buy a 200 dollar pair of jeans.

End of rant.

I love meat just as much as the rest of you guys (I'm glad the QOTM is gone or that would be a prime candidate).

BUT, it does trouble me that the industry is pumping our food full of antibiotics, pesticides, etc. I don't think we know what the long term effects of this will be. I'm no expert, and I haven't done a whole lot of research on the subject, but it worries me.

I sometimes eat organic foods, but they are more difficult to come by, cost more, and according to studies I've read that some food products that are labeled as organic go through most of the same questionable techniques. I think this is getting better, but for years there were no FDA guidelines at all as to what the term 'organic' really meant. Anything could be called organic.

But damn, I likes me some bacon!

Where do they advocate killing anyone? Did you bother to read any of their purpose?

I love it when people on this board point out liberal causes they go as far left as possible and say: "look how screwed up these people are, how could anyone agree with these points?" Or: "Look this person is living a life totally opposite of what s/he is preaching" Believe it or not there are people for these causes that don't go to such extremes, or live the hypocracy of the afformentioned examples. Yes there arre people who do this, but that doesn't make the points for the whole cause invalid.

Just because I'm pro-enviorment or pro-animal rights doesn't mean I smoke weed, hug trees and don't groom myself. Hell, I'm not even against eating animals. But there are other issues that are chucked to the side because some people are only willing to look at the wrong things.

1.)PETA says and does some silly things.

2.) There are some people who claim to support environmental movements but whose personal lifestyles and blind consumption betray a certain hypocrisy.

Just because these things are true does not mean that each person should not evaluate the impact that his decisions have on the world around us and choose to alter (or not to alter) his behaviour appropriately.

Having gone to college with some random, naive, air-headed freshman tree hugger straw man whose social philosophy you were able to discredit does not permanently absolve you from ever having to consider how your choices may affect the world around you.

First time for me too, Easy Mac, it's a weird feeling isn't it? Hatred of PETA can bring all people together against them. It's their one good purpose.

albion, pjspt, etc.

You're absolutely right. However, this thread was started to point out a PETA movie called the Matrix. Note that nowhere in this thread have any of the PETA-bashers made fun of vegetarians, environmentalists, etc.

Jeez, that's the problem with you left wing do gooders. Absolutely no sense of humor.

By the way, cthomer.... they're calling for the voluntary extinction of the human race. It would be a lot faster if they just offed themselves. That's all I was saying.

I agree, I am very concerned with the things being added to our foods without our knowledge, especially all the chemicals and antibiotics. I really worry that, with all the overmedication going on these days, there are going to be some very strong viruses and bacteria that will not be susceptible to medical treatment.

But I agree with the bacon part even more

Well played.

BTW, was that movie as much of a mind - f*ck to you guys as it was to me? I kept waiting for it to get funny and it just got more and more serious. I saw the movie before any of the posts about PETA so I just thought it was going to be a funny Matrix spoof.

As a writer, I found it interesting what I was thinking/experiencing as I watched it. My expectations of what I was watching were totally blown out of the water.

Also, do you guys find this as brilliant a marketing strategy as I do? Disregard the subject matter for a second, but making a high-quality flash movie like this and letting the net do its thing has probably brought more people to watch it than if they had spend 10 times as much money on network TV commercials.

Just found this interesting.

High-quality flash movie? Haven't seen many flash movies, I take it. (I've seen so many more done much better)

And Little Orphan Annie? Are you stoned Cam? Geez. Yes, Sealab. Great episode (aren't they all?).
