Surprisingly, Computer/Video game prices haven't gone up at all for the most part during the past 10-15 years. I still remember when Mario 3 came out, it was 49.95. I guess the fact that the competition is so great, that it kinda counterbalances normal economic inflation.

For some reason I thought FOF1 was 19.99. I don't know why.

That probably holds true for Canada, but in the US, $49.95 has been the standard for quite sometime with retail console games. |

Well, if you bought FOF at my garage sale this last summer, it would have been $1.00.
I'm cheap. |

They've gone up a decent amount. Late 80's / early 90's you were looking at paying about 30 dollars for a computer game. Now you're paying 50 dollars, or more. That's a decent jump. The console games have hovered around the 50 dollar mark though, but I thought they were around the 40 dollar mark for the earlier generation games.

I'm pretty certain that price have come down a bit in the last year. A lot of games are $49.99 or $59.99 CDN on release, it used to be $10-20 higher than that a year or two ago.
But N64 games were by far the highest price. I remember seeing a Mortal Kombat game for N64 that retailed at over $130 CDN! I mean, $130 is ridiculous for even a great game, but for a Mortal Kombat game?!? Even now, a copy of Ogre Battle 64 is something like $85 at the Microplay store near me.

THE first football game for the PC was XOR NFL Challenge and it was $100! At the time (mid 80's) that was a hell of a lot of money to me and a friend and I saved and split the cost.

Has more to do with the games being cheaper to produce now then they were then. The gaming companies are making more money on games now then they were back then, even by keeping the price the same because cds and dvds are cheaper to produce than the old fashioned cartridges were. That is why N64 games were so much more expensive than Playstation or Dreamcast titles, and why Nintendo went to non-cartridge format.

I paid 59.99 for Tecmo Super 3 Final Edition at a KB Toy store the day it came out (95 or 96).
Didn't Nintendo charge game designers for the cartridges for all their consoles? I once thought I read that the price for SNES carts was about 15-20 dollars. Course, I read that on the internet...so it has to be true.

For a while, American console games - at least, certain titles - hit $99.95 during the cartridge era.
Phantasy Star IV did, for example. $50 has been pretty standard, but it wasn't always that way. |
