Playmakers Season Finale
So, what did you think of it?
I thought it was so great when Taylor smacked that punk Demetrius Harris (ol' DH finally got what he had comin to him). Was great to see DH get benched at the end too. Really did not expect the way it ended though, from previews I thought for sure they were in the playoffs...but then had my doubts once they started talking about the score of the other game...could sort of see it coming. I hope they come back with this series....they left it hanging, I hate when they do that and don't bring the shows back.... What would you do if you were Willbanks? Would you sign Taylor to another contract, find a trade for him? I don't know, really hard choice in a way I would say sign him up...try to find another rookie, get a heck of a trade for DH....that guys has too much excess baggage, always causing trouble...but then again, could you really take that chance and trade away the big-name player..... Could be interesting next season (I hope there is one)...also hope they plan on getting this season on DVD |

For those who missed the sig link the first time around:
ESPN Declines "Playmakers" Scripts BRISTOL, CT - The new original programming from ESPN this fall, reality-driven, "Playmakers", is refusing to entertain recent scripts presented for upcoming episodes. The show's executive director, Manuel Hung, offered that "Playmakers" intention is to focus on the real side of professional football. "We see 'Playmakers' as an opportunity to show things that go on in a locker room that fans otherwise would never see. We are not going to try and fool our viewers by writing in stories that are not believable." Hung's response was amidst rumors that upcoming shows would feature games where the "Cougars" scored a would-be winning touchdown at the end of regulation only to have the extra point blocked. Another rejected script called for the "Cougars" to squander a three-touchdown lead with less than 4 minutes left to play. Both storylines called for overtime losses, followed by a devastating rash of injuries that left almost half of the teams key players unavailable. "Our intent is to present reality. Strippers, wife beating, cocaine and heroin addiction, steroid use, and constant in fighting between teammates. These rejected scripts were garbage. No one would buy into that stuff." New episodes of "Playmakers" can be seen on ESPN at 9pm on Tuesday's with rebroadcasts every hour on ESPN2, ESPNNews, ESPNClassic, and ESPNColdPizza. |

I hope they have a second season. That being said, Dan Patrick's radio show had a poll today asking whether people liked the show or now and the vast majority said that they didn't. That doesn't jive with what I've heard here (there seem to be quite a few closet Playmakers fans here), but I don't know if we represent ESPN viewers that much...

Maybe a flag on the play in the other game?
Also, I feel like Playmakers was set up for only a one season. I mean, they setup the old agining Taylor who wants to start but is being pushed out. So does he just leave the show after one season? I like Playmakers. |

No, but they DO show shitty dramatic football shows. I gave this show a chance. I am sorry but if every team in the NFL (or whatever league they are in) fought, and had problems like the one on the show, the league would fold. I watched the last show, actually the last 3 shows. I couldn't let go of the bad acting and bad story lines. Granted, I did manage watching all 3 shows without turning the channel. Just like the LA riots, you didn't want to watch cause it was so horrible, but you found yourself not turning the channel. Last thing, is it me or did the team (cougars?) play every game at home and in a dome?

I haven't had a chance to watch the show, but I assume it's something to the degree of The O.C. except with adults instead of teenagers and a football team instead of a highschool?

Can't say I'm a huge fan of the show, but I like it. It's something to watch at a time when nothing else is on (Tuesday nights...what else is on?)
I think it is over the top, and they do always seem to play in a dome. But, it is fiction so it doesn't bother me. |

I felt like I got everything I needed out of the show by watching an advertisement every week on ESPN. Seeing each episode boiled down to 30 seconds or so was just fine by me - I had no craving to actually watch the whole script.
Let's see - we had a team with turmoil, a sick coach, a meddling owner, a RB controversy, a cheating husband, a drug addicted player, a gay player subplot, a guy or two with a troubled past... that's about what I seem to have picked up. To get this, I invested about a collective ten minutes fo my life. Need I have invested ten hours? I doubt it. Last edited by QuikSand : 11-12-2003 at 03:29 PM. |

Spot-on. Not only that, but they decided to cram all of that into a "season's worth" (what, 8, 10 episodes?) of shows. It's like watching Party of Five - no one just lives their lives, there must be a crisis every 5.4 seconds, and the result is anything but realistic. My wife used to watch that show, and it drove me nuts. I don't need spend 30 minutes being barraged with other people's endless baggage, I got a small dose and it told me everything that was about to happen in 30 second snippets.

The show was taped in Toronto at the skydome. It's kind of funny for us Canadians because we get to see unknown Canadian actors. Some of the reporters in the show are really sports reporters from a Canadian sports channel. The show was mediocre but somehow I kept watching the damn thing. I would like to see another season.

Not that I know of, even tho at the beginning they wanted it to make you think something was going on. I enjoyed Playmakers. It's one of those guilty pleasure shows you don't take too seriously. I read somewhere that it was picked up for a 2nd season tho. |
