True historical league now a reality?
OK, so we can totally create a starting universe, just like we did before, starting with the basis of my old 1970 file. Other hard working gentlemen created draft files for dam near every year thereafter. The only problem was that the drafted players would go to whichever team drafted them, instead of their historically accurate counterparts.
Can we sidestep this issue now? What if you started a multi-player league using the 1970 file then used the appropriate draft files each year, but acting as the commissioner, you put the correct players on the correct team during the draft? Is this possible? It seems like it is feasible from the things Jim said during that interview, since he said the commish could enter each drafted player in manually. Whaddaya think historical leaguers? We gotta winner here or what? |

Getting there. All we need now is to be able to change league sizes (like to 26 teams after the merger) with the requisite scheduler. But this is not within the scope of FOF2004 because of its complexity.

wow, that sounds like a lot of work! I would much rather continue with the starting roster of 1970 and just import the drafts for each year and let the chips fall where they may.

Well, you could do a historical league, starting from the point at which there were 32 teams.

Sometimes ya gotta make the historical league your own version of history. Obviously we have to look past the fact that there werent 32 teams in the league back then. Those teams that werent in existence just have to suffer along with the lousy players that are left over.
I also like to run a 'condensed' view of history. I wouldnt bother with every lousy draft pick from each year. I would actually combine 2 yrs of drafts and have each draft be a mega-draft. Hey, the hard work was done when a bunch of folks pu ttheir heads together to create all the draft files. Doing all that research sucks. The easy part would be getting them into the game. So has anyone played around with multi enough to know if that would be possible? |

Damn. This draft file isn't any different from any TCY1.2a export. FOF2k4 crashes to the desktop, no message, when clicking "Preview Draft" after importing it.

I so want in when someone starts an historical league. That's what I've been dreaming about ever since Jim announced multiplayer...

I think when Jim was talking about it, he was referring to the initial fantasy type draft... Although I may be wrong. Still, it seems possible that the Commish could just make all the draft picks for the teams, so he would decide who got who. Since all the teams would be player controlled. |

The file I posted above gave me good players in Bart Starr, Bobby Douglas, Steve Ramsey and Len Dawson. Those four were head and shoulders above the rest. Strangely enough I discovered that even if a QB was listed as 0/0 in the roster overview, his details hinted at some skills at least... I'll continue looking.

Dola.
In this picture, you see that both Staubach and Morton are scouted as 0/0: But the players' details reveal that their abilities are much better than that: It's probably nothing that affects game play after all.

But I think it does affect decision making and coaches setting depth charts. I hope this can be fixed because I much rather start with this player file than the current one. |

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that this player file doesnt have anything listed under their individual skills. It wouldnt make sense if that were the case, since nobody has anything listed there and yet those RBs show up as VG.
Beats me. Im working on tweaking this file right now. Gonna take some time, but thats ok since Im a geek that digs this sort of thing. Besides, so much of the hard work was already done a few yrs back. |

Yes, you are right - the scouting error causes the computer coaches to pick the generated rookie QB's rather than the veteran QB's imported. vtbub said in a PM that only Len Dawson started when he tried out the file, so the outcome varies a little. (Never mind my previous comment - it was one past midnight where I was. I was so tired I barely remembered my own name - apparently releasing a new FOF game has some side effects to people.)
