Some cap tests starting fictional in 1970
I started a new career in 1970, using the modified OPU file with the starting cap at 100 and default cap increase settings of 28 to 80. Just a couple of quick observations.
Every single player on all of the rosters have a 1 yr, $30k contract. With a cap of $10m, that means every team has $8.41m available under cap. In 1971, the cap goes to around $17m (three tests going to 1971 shows the cap varying from $15m to $18m). Every single player is now a FA so all teams have $17m under the cap. In 1972, with the cap now at around $23m (+/-$4m), we are seeing some longer term contracts with cap availability running from $10m to $23m. Projecting this out, we would see a salary cap of around $125m in 2003. |

Bucc, I assume you are using my OPU. After the first season, no one resigned anyone? I barely saw any free agents in the first year, and I don't even think everyone had a minimum contract, but I could be wrong.
Anyways, thanks for the report. In my career, 1965-1973, good players are finally starting to fill out rosters and it is pretty fun. |

That is correct, in 1971 every single player was a FA. I think if one wants to start a career in year X, it might be best to run it some years up to that point so the original OPU has a chance to settle down.
