Dean Huston Memorial Football League: Real rosters/Random Rosters

It seems like we have a pretty strong consensus from previous posts and emails, however, take a look here before voting:

There appears to be an issue with ratings inflation for the real player files (hence the third option).

I voted for normalization, but.. if Jim fixes the problem before the weekend, it may be a non issue by the time we start. If that's the case, mark me down for real rosters.

As noted in the thread above, the default NFL roster has a higher distribution of ratings than the game generates on its own. As a result those players would continue to dominate the game until they all straggled into retirement and they may, as noted in that thread, cause some odd statistical anomalies along the way.

To normalize the rosters would just consist of taking a statistical analysis of the ratings of player file, comparing those ratings against the known ratings curve for the game, and run a script on the player file to lower player ratings and fit them onto the curve. I can probably write a script for this if this is what we choose to do.

Thanks

I think player card just refers to the info box that pops up when you click on a player in your roster.

Mentoring is a new feature, where, if you have a veteran player with high leadership he may help to train your younger players at his position. You can probably find a mentor by going to the Personality tab of your roster, sort by leadership, then click down the list, and for older guys, look on the left-hand side of the player card, if it's there it will be right below where their agent is listed.

As for the conflicts and affinities, there was a personality system added to the game in the previous edition which causes players to like and dislike some of their teammates, which can affect team cohesion and thereby performance. I'm not a big fan of it and always turn it off (it's one of the league setup options) so I can't give you much info there...
