Idea for you utility creators

I think a utility that could read in yearly rosters and graphically identify players' ratings increases/decreases year to year would be cool. Maybe take a roster printout from the beginning of each year?

Would this be feasible/useful? I know it's always a pain to put two text exports side by side to compare a player's ratings.

Would be nice...if I knew the file format for the roster file. I was actually thinking of doing something like this. But, I have other projects and I don't know, nor do I really have the time to find out, the file format.

Keep in mind of course if you read the raw data out of the roster file you will be tracking the players true ratings and not the ratings as seen through your scouts eyes.

True, which is why just parsing a "print to file" roster could be better to use.

Forgot about that prime, that's true...

Maybe a cheating utility that let's you see how far off your scout is from the raw data?

....I hate parsing. Someone else can do it.

I independtly posted this idea in another thread. I think it would be an excellent feature for the simulation proper.

The major problem with this is, believe it or not scouts. I've identified where the player ratings are, and matching them up in the game file shouldn't be too tough. The problem is in determining how your scout;s ratings affect them. Unless someone wants to make a cheat that will override the scout ratings, this is going to be a difficult process.

[Edit: oops..sorry prime didn't see your response till after I wrote this]

Yea' - parsing the text files seems like it would be more effective, if not easier.

With the text output, you only get the overall scout impression (Current Overall / Potential Overall). Not each individual attribute.

Personally, I would love for a utility maker out there to take my preseason box scores and spit out total stats for me. That would ave me a lot of time adding it up myself.

An unfortunate corollary is that if you change scouts, you lose your previous scouts ratings forever. The more I think about it, the more I am certain that it is an essential feature of the game proper.

I'd like to second this request to any of you good folks creating utilities. I'd love to be able to see how my players performed in the preseason.
