OOTP League Trade
Wondering what everyone here thinks about this trade I just pulled off. My team (Phillies) won the NL East last year with a 109-53 mark, leading all of baseball in all pitching categories. After being eliminated in the first round by the eventual Series winning Cubs, I've wanted to change some things. I just completed this trade, and was wondering what other people thought about it...
I give up - SP Pedro Martinez (Cy Young winner, 21-5, 1.88 ERA last year. 35, making a shade over 20 million a year for the next four years) SS Jimmy Rollins (.266, .322 OBP, 14 HR last year. 28, $5 mil for the next four years) 3B Eric Hinske (.326, .398 OBP, 14 HR last year. 29, $3 mil, last year of his contract) Total money - $28 mil/year, $103.5 mil total I get - SS Juan Uribe (3 time consecutive All-Star, .305, .409 OBP, 26 HR last year. 28, $5 mil and change for the next four years) CF Carlos Beltran (.304, .359 OBP, 22 HR last year. 29, $4.5 mil for the next four years) 1B Paul Konerko (.306, .370 OBP, .599 SLG, 37 HR last year. 31, $4.5 mil and change for the next three years) Two first round picks from the most recent draft (power hitting 1B and a good defense, hitter for average (good average) 2B). Total money - $14.4 mil/year, $48.5 mil total Without Pedro, my rotation is weaker, but I still have the following: 1) Wolf (22-7, 3.50 ERA, 4 straight All-Star appearances...should have won the Cy Young year before last, IMO) 2) Buchholz (17-5, 3.60 ERA in his first full season. Made the All-Star game) 3) Myers (14-12, 4.22 ERA) 4) Lewis (6-7, 4.48 ERA in 13 games started) 5) Popovici/Rojas (two rookies who played pretty well in AAA last year...Rojas is one of the top 100 prospects) And my outfield is now Pat Burrell, Carlos Beltran, Shawn Green, and Brian Giles. I'll be able to shop one for another SP if I need it. Hinske was my starting 3B, and he broke out last year really well...but now I have the slot open for Uber prospect Corey Smith, a former top 10 prospect who is slated to be a superstar. My thoughts on the trade were to get out from under Pedro's ridiculous contract (I didn't sign him to it...traded for him at the beginning of last season) while keeping my team competitive enough to stay in the hunt for the World Series. Thoughts on the trade?

I believe it was Branch Rickey that said that it's better to get rid of a guy a year early than a year late.

I think that this means you will have a hard time getting by the Dbacks in the NLCS this year

Of course, Uribe's great seasons were in Coors.

I think it means you have completely revelutionized the way in which the Phillies will choke in the playoffs.

In the FOBL you would be King TradeShark for the month after this heavily lopsided deal. You took the other guy to the laundromat, then the dry cleaners, and then you got 2 10's in exchange for a 5 . |

What really bothers me is that I didn't even consider this until you mentioned it ![]() And Maple Leafs, I hope you're wrong, because I'm really over choking in the playoffs.

Player Cards -
What he got from me - Hinske Rollins Pedro What I got from him - Uribe Beltran Konerko Depriest (2B Prospect) Petro (1B Prospect) Edit - We use average scouts, so their ratings can be a bit misleading.

Well if your goal was to the WS, this deal will only hurt. Pedro is THE stud pitcher in the game (and is paid like it), and could drive you to the WS. Not sure with your present rotation.
