From all LSU fans: Thank you, Notre Dame.

They said it on ESPN and the numbers seem to support it: If Notre Dame had won yesterday, USC would be facing OU in the Sugar Bowl. Yeah, I know all losses count the same in the BCS, but if you go back and review the strength of schedule numbers and then look at the projections for various combinations of winners yesterday, you find that the Syracue-ND game indeed had a big enough effect on the final BCS numbers to be the difference. Review the final standings and SOS ratings at the link and then scroll down for the projections if ND had won. Fascinating stuff.

In case it wasn't clear, thank you, Notre Dame, for seeing so bad. And thank you, Syracuse for exposing that once again.

According to those numbers and assuming that ND winning didn't change the computers, USC and LSU would have been tied at 6.03. How the hell would the BCS have dealt with that?

At least most of the athletes from Notre Dame (the ones who graduate of course), parlay their education into a great real world job. I really wonder what the people who do graduate from Florida State (far and few between) do when they graduate?

How did they do to expose their bad eye sight?

It happens 10 times every 100 years JW. If I made fun of LSU every time they had a sub par year, how often would I be running my mouth??? My guess is a little bit more than that huh.

p.s.:Sorry Noop I thought you were just laughing at Notre Dame in general.

And another quirk in the BCS system is that OU's loss actually managed to hurt LSU. To quote someone on an LSU forum, if OU had won:

"We would have probably kept the .1 QW point if OU had won, because their loss vaulted Kansas St. over UGA in the BCS, and allowed Miami O. to edge UGA out in the BCS by a very slim margin because UGA's human poll average was 11 instead of 10. Not to mention that OU losing hurt UGA's SOS, just as it did ours. If OU had won we would have been in second place by .34 instead of .16. (plus .1 for QW and plus .08 because OU's loss weakened our SOS)"

Very bizarre, the whole BCS thing.

Just shows the absurdity of the BCS, as far as I'm concerned.

In 5 years, once Notre Dame is back in the Top 10, Kirk Ferentz has left for the NFL and Iowa's recent success looks like a fad similar to Northwestern's, we can revisit this quote.

I still want to know what happens if 2 teams are tied for 2nd. Because despite some sportscasters saying the current scenario is the "BCS' worst nightmare", if ND had won we could have had an even bigger nightmare.

"In the unlikely event of a tie in the standings at the conclusion of the regular season, the tie-breaking components, in order, will be: head-to-head results; a win against the highest ranked team in the BCS top 25 poll; and strength of schedule component as contained in the BCS ratings formula." http://www.geocities.com/rtell/FAQ.html

edit- That means that LSU would win the tiebreak, because they beat Georgia, higher ranked than Washington State. OU would win the tiebreak over both with the win over Texas. unedit.

Keep in mind that sometimes the computer average number can go out to infinity. Like 1.83333333333333333 and so on. That would reduce the ability to tie as well.

Notre Dame's problem the last 10 years hasn't been recruiting, it's been turning those players into superstars. The prestige makes up for the higher academic standards, and with Ty Willingham coaching, it won't take long. Considering ND started a true freshman at QB and still beat 2 Top-25 teams, it could even be within a year or two that they get back in the Top 10, and if not, certainly the Top 25.

How many superstars did Willingham have at Stanford? Nothing worse in college sports than a Notre Dame fan's arrogance. Nothing worse in the business world than a Notre Dame alum's arrogance.

Yeah because Notre Dame and Stanford are in the same class in terms of football right?

He took Stanford to the Rose Bowl, enough said.

He won because he had 2 years of bad teams, but the third year, everyone had played together for so long, it just geled. He also took a 7-5 Stanford team to the Rose Bowl
