How can they not be ranked #1?

The war for the National Championship in college football should be played on the field, not in the voting booth. With that in mind, a query:

How can you leave Louisiana-Monroe out of the title picture?

Look at their record - they played the toughest schedule in America, admittedly because every team out there was better than them. As far as quality wins are concerned, look at this.

LSU lost to Florida,
who lost to Ole Miss,
who lost to Memphis,
who lost to Alabama-Birmingham,
who lost to Troy State.

Now, USC lost to California,
who lost to Kansas State.

Now, Oklahoma ALSO lost to Kansas State,
who lost to Marshall,
who lost to Troy State,
who as we've seen also beat Alabama-Birmingham.

Troy State lost to Middle Tennessee State,
who lost to Louisiana-Lafayette,
who provided Louisiana-Monroe with their only win of the year.

You may look at the other losses as setbacks, but the important thing is that ULM came up big when it counted, and thus should be in the Sugar Bowl.
They may have been denied the chance to win their conference championship by spurious "rules", but they defeated every major challenger for the Mythical National Championship by proxy, and they deserve a trip to New Orleans. If USC and LSU get to play what amounts to a home bowl game for a shot at the title, so should ULM.

If they aren't ranked in the New York Times top 25 how can anyone take them seriously?

I also posted my chart as to why Rutgers was the best team in the country....

quoting enraged bowl-haters:

"See... this is why we need a playoff!"
