None, I'm pretty much a good tipper I would say, but I don't generally throw in any extra for the holidays. I probably shouldn't be tipping as well as I do normally considering my financial situation.

babysitter, and I put pizza delivery guy on the off chance that the weather fucks us up so bad that we can't go out and we end up ordering something, butunless that is directly on a holiday I wouldn't...

doorman secretary Not tips, but gifts (often cash) are required for each.

I'd always thought Holiday tips were for those types of people who you got regular service from, but did not tip regularly (garbage man, mailman). Most of the others listed I tip when I recwive the service, so I don't give them holiday tips.
I tip our cleaning lady and the garbage people. I have always wondered if it was kosher/legal for the mail carriers to take tips. For those who tip their mail carriers, what is the methodology here? I have never figured out how to do so.

I'm pretty much like samdari said -- the only people who get any sort of "holiday tip" from me are those who don't normally get tipped.
While neither my postal nor sanitation regular has done anything to warrant something extra this year IMO, my jack-of-all-trades handyman has already received a substantial bonus (in time for Christmas shopping even) and our "cleaning helpers" will likely get something extra as well.

I tip pretty good during the year, so no additional fees during the holidays. Usually.

I definitely tip my barber every time. He's that close to my head with sharp objects- best not to piss him off

I give a holiday cash gift to the postman, the trash collector and to my cleaning lady. I don't have a baby sitter or paperboy, but if I did I'd give a cash gift to them as well. The others I tip the same that I normally do during the year(which is generally pretty high).

In an envelope taped to the lid of the garbage can. They will be looking for it.

Well since I live in the middle of nowhere, I get no newspapers delivered, and no pizza place is close enough to deliver... We have more tractors out here than Taxis.... and the only people who we have babysit for us is family (such as the grandparents who's payment is getting to spend time with their grandkids!)
![]() So the only applicable people for me on the list is Trash collector, postman and barber.. To be honest, I never knew that people did "holiday tips" for trash collectors or postmen.. I almost always give a real nice tip to the barber when I go (25% or so). But I have gone to the same place for a long time and am happy with them so do it as a thanks. I guess the one good/bad thing about living in the middle of the woods in 3 feet of snow is the less people you run into and less people to tip. ![]() |

Curious, how much does a haircut for people living in the middle of the woods run?

I pay roughly $10 for a haircut before tip.. Luckily for me in the middle of the woods, I also have a liquor store, a gas station/small market that has like 1 jug of milk and two loafs of bread for sale at any time... and we have an ice cream shop and a local poolhall/bar... Most of those things service the people who come out during the summer for their summer lakehomes.. I hear we might get a traffic light one of these days ![]() |
