Why don't sacks count?

Is this the way it's supposed to be, or am I just missing something I don't realize?

In my last game, I had 29 rushes for 106 yards, 42 pass attempts for 275 yards, and was sacked 3 times, for 17 yards. But my total plays were 71, for 381 yards.

So, don't the sacks count as plays? And negative yards? That is, shouldn't they?

Are you sure they're not already being counted in your pass plays? A sack should count as yards against the team's passing total (but not the individual QB's).

When it says "pass attempts", is that actually pass plays?

Not in the NFL.

Sacks are incompletions in college.

I meant is FOF including sacks in the pass plays report in the box score?

Sacks are running plays and count against the QB's running yardage in college.

No, the sacks are not being counted as pass plays (my two QBs threw 42 passes), and not as running plays (one QB ran 3 times for 15 yards, the other ran once for 5 yards, which I believe leaves no room for three sacks).

And sacks are incompletions in college? I find that very hard to believe.

Looking at ESPN boxscore from the Bears/Lions game in week 8, they are counting net yards offense while not counting sacks as plays.

FOF appears to use gross offense in their boxes, while not counting sacks as plays.

Huckleberry is correct, sacks are runs in college.

Not to threadjack, but here's something else I've never understood: why aren't sacks counted as tackles for defensive players in the NFL?

Good call, vtbub, the sacks are definitely not counted as plays. Just seems odd that they would say Chicago ran 57 plays when they clearly ran 59. I mean, punts and field goals are one thing, since that's not really the "offense" running the play. And I can understand controversy as to whether or not to call a sack a run or a pass play, but to just do away with the whole thing by not calling it a play at all? Absurd.

So it looks like the only difference between FOF and the ESPN boxscore is that ESPN took the sack yards away from the team's passing yards, and FOF does not. And both boxscores decided not to describe sacks as plays (even though the loss of yards counted in the ESPN boxscore, there wasn't an actual "play" happening).
