TCY: Utah State Aggies
As I just bought FOF2004, and got into TCY again, I will start and report on my dynasty here with the Utah State Aggies and import the draft files into TCY.
I chose this team because it seems like a realistic place for a college coach to start his D-IA career. This dynasty will be more coach-oriented then running one team for 20 years. I will play on 'Starting Lineup' difficulty. The Solecismic 8 is in Alaska in a conference renamed by the Arctic Circle Conference. The postseason system will be the Bowl/BCS system. I'll post the roster, schedule, preseason top-25 and predictions to the Sun Belt shortly... |

This position isn't too bad, but we definitely need improvement long-term. Craig will be the starter and we'll see how he performs. It's an old position, and definitely a spot for recruiting this season. Code:
A good crop of running backs, and running will be the primary focus of the offence, at least until a good quarterback is recruited. Curran has 2 years with us, which is a sigh of relief and Griffis is a high-rated freshman but probably won't improve which is a downer. Fullbacks aren't exactly our strong point, either. Gould will start over Singleton. Code:
Our Tight Ends are young and not too bad. Mahoney and Sanford will split time as Mahoney is a great receiver on 3rd down and Sanford is the best blocker of the bunch. Code:
4 strong receivers as targets for Craig. Moore will be the #2 receiver with Tveit. Code:
Not a bad group of Offensive Linemen, but it isn't spectacular. Schneider is a great guard, too bad the rest of the line has as many holes as a golf course. Code:
As is the norm in most bad teams, a good kicker and punter are here. Both are graduating at the end of the year though, which means we could use an upgrade for next year, but Grant and Brennan should be alright for next year. |

Ouch. Spadaford saves this group, somewhat. This is just dreadful. A must-need improvement for recruiting. Code:
Almost as bad as the outside guys, but a little better. I'm running a 4-3 so Sutton will be the second DT along side Drudge. Code:
Richard is a respectable MLB, and Vinny Read is a great player who once again is here for just one season. Butler, Murphy and Coles all have nice upside. Code:
A very respectable (Sun-Belt Conference standards) defensive backfield. Brooks and Lincoln are the starting corners and Mickens and Scott take the safety spots. |

A very tough Non-Conference schedule facing rival Utah, plus 2 Preseason top-50 teams. New Mexico, Wyoming and Troy State could be winnable. Anything less then a 5-win season would be a let down. |

The Staff (Good Overall Rating: TCY Helper)
Ron Browning, 38, Syndicate Coordinator (Poor Rating:TCY Helper) - Can't get much worse then him. He has a GOOD in Syndicate Investigations but TERRIBLE in the other two categories. Deion Cassidy, 59, Offensive Coordinator (Good Rating: TCY Helper) - He will run a Pro Formation offence and has good ratings but his development ratings could be much better. Depending how the offence works, he'll probably stay for a while. Kevin Farmer, 43, Defensive Coordinator (Good Rating: TCY Helper) - Another coach we'd like to keep. He could be better, but we could have been left with a lot worse. Kent Wilson, 71, Southwest (Home) Scout (Decent Rating: TCY Helper) - He will have most of the work when recruiting, and he's not the best out there. He has 4 above-average ratings and 4 ratings below-average, so he has his strong and weak points, and for the first year we'll work with his strengths as we have 4 scouts with a Pretty Good Overall rating. Academics: Good (40), 99th in Nation |

I will report on visits, signings and refusals. I have never been a good recruiter, so I have no house rules except that I will not bribe any recruits. Now, to the game... Week One Utah State (0-0) at Utah (0-0) The first game of the season against a rival. No sweeter smell in the air. We even get the first points of the game, and then Utah went running, and running, and running away with the game... Code:
All in all, the defensive front needs to be improved or teams like Utah will keep on running on us. Curran had an alright game and Craig did what was expected of him against a top-60 opponent. We knew we don't have what it takes to beat our State rival... yet. Code:

Still too early to have any news. People seem to like my coordinators, so maybe that could bring some better recruits. I am looking at academics to raise that first and foremost. Week Two Utah State (0-1) at #6 Nebraska (1-0) on TV5 Another tough game where I don't expect us to come close to competing. Nebraska is a lock for a bowl game where we're a lock for an under .500 record. It is not going to be fun to watch. Code:
Hey, we lowered our YPC against. After a game like this, you have to look at the positives. Wortham and Maloney played well and Maloney will start next week and we'll see how he performs as a starter. At this point we have nothing to lose. I knew it wouldn't be a close game, so all we could do is look forward to next week and #29 Arizona State. ![]() Code:

No news Week Three Utah State (0-2) at #29 Arizona State (1-0) Another tough game against a top-40 opponent. We are highly ranked in all the computer polls because we have had one of the toughest schedules so far. This game was much closer then we expected as Maloney played well as did the defence- finally. Code:
What a game. Maloney played very well, but he needs to learn how to hold on to the ball. 4 fumbles already this season, 2 today. He will get the start again next week as he really leads the offence. Curran got 91 yards on the ground including a 75 yard run and a touchdown. A surprising performance by our offence. Our defence struggled against the run but only allowed 21 points so we'll look at the positives. Code:

A tough game to lose. The offence couldn't get deep in LM territory and it cost us. We now have 3 Non-Conference games before our next Conference game so I will start Craig to see if he could lead the offence against a lesser opponent, not a Utah or Nebraska. |

It looks promising. The last three weeks brought new recruits to visit. They aren't top calibre, but we aren't a top calibre team. If we could get a full recruiting class of 16, I'll be ecstatic. We have tons of visitors and got our first commitment this week. Commitments DT A.J. Marx, St George, UT, #23 state (#3 DT), 34- Rejections None Week Seven Wyoming (1-4) at Utah State (0-5, 0-1) Craig will start again. The starting QB will go on a game-by-game basis. This is a winnable game at home and our first win of the season. Of course, with our team, no game is a for sure win and I don't expect this one to be. Our top WR, Tveit is probable but will still play and DT Drudge, our best defensive lineman is out 17 weeks following back surgery. His college career is done. Code:
A good win. Wingate ran brilliantly, and he has outshone Curran in most games. Curran will still be the feature back, however. Craig played well and will start again next week. The Sun Belt... Code:

2 more commitments, but a whole lot of rejections. We still have a lot of people visiting so I'm not worried... yet. Commitments (bold denotes new commitment) DT A.J. Marx, St George, UT, #23 state (#3 DT), 34- DE Nicky Hamilton, Fullerton, CA, NR state (#20 DE), 34 OLB Tyrus Shepherd, Hereford, TX, NR state (#7 OLB), 49+ Week Eight Utah State (1-5, 0-1) at North Texas (3-3, 2-0) We play the best team in our conference on the road. We're coming off a win, but I don't see us making it two in a row. Code:
A tough, but expected loss. We're out of the running for conference championship, but if we pull out a strong finish, we could break the top 100. ==== Sun Belt Conference Update Code:

5 more commitments bringing our total to 8. We still have 24 players visiting to fill out the remaining 8 spots. I would love to get a QB commited. Commitments (bold denotes new commitment) DT A.J. He gets his 3rd start of the season. Code:
A great game by the offence. Maloney threw for over 300 yards, Tveit had 200 yards receiving and Curran had just under 100 yards. Maloney is the starter for the rest of the year, no questions asked. ==== Sun Belt Conference Update Code:

We saw him against Arizona State, and we got close. Let's see if we can even out our conference record. Code:
Another tough loss. The guys played great, we just couldn't hold on to our late lead. Curran led the way offensively with 127 yards on the ground. The team looks good, however. We were officially eliminated from the Conference championship. ==== Sun Belt Conference Update Code:

With the 16 recruits already posted, I will omit this section and just post a detailed recap in an export from TCY after the season. ============ Week Twelve Troy State (1-9) at Utah State (2-8, 1-4) A Non-Conference game and a game we should win. A loss would be devastating and I will not tolerate one from these guys. Code:
The guys didn't disappoint. Huge game offensively and defensively. Curran ran well, Maloney played an error free game and Moore almost got 20 yards/catch. Big win, and as we stand we are ranked 99. ==== Sun Belt Conference Update Code:

Week Thirteen
Utah State (3-8, 1-4) at Idaho (2-9, 1-5) Our last game of the season. We have to win this game to maintain any respectability we've earned this season. We can't finish last in the worst conference in the nation. Code:
The guys didn't disappoint again. We get our 2nd conference win and end the season winning our last two. A 4-8 record isn't bad, and meets expectations. |

Interesting scenario going into the BCS games as BOTH USC and Florida lost their conference championship games opening the door for Ohio State to play USC in the Fiesta Bowl. Penn State's only loss came to Ohio State, FYI. Code:
