OT: Tejada rejects offer...

Quote:
the offer, believed to be worth about $45 million, was initially rejected

I cant believe Miguel Tejada would rather go to Detroit than play in Seattle, the Tigers offered only 5 million more. I guess the days of wanting to win and pride are over. Sorry to say, but i think guys like that are total dirtbags.

THE WHOLE STORY

A) Those days HAVE BEEN long over.

B) You have no idea what kind of person Miguel Tejada is, and to call him a dirtbag is a bit harsh.

Wait until he realizes that he only has warning track power in Detroit. It drove Gonzo out of there fairly quick.

Miguel Tejada may be the most overrated player in the game (Ichiro, Jeter, and Soriano certainly have arguments as well). Nice player to have, but at just over 10 million a season? Pass.

Im a crazy diehard M's fan, and im so glad we didnt get him. He is damn good, but for the money id rather have Guillen. Carlos is improving every year, he deserves a little more time. I predict Los will hit .280/20/75 in 2004 - as long as he keeps off the sauce.

I think Tejada is far from a dirtbag, he plays very hard - and is just a tad too emotional, which i think explains his subpar first half last year. O's arent gonna be in the gutter much longer, especially if they sign Vlad. I never hate a guy for taking the money, if its there then grab it. Its gonna be there regardless, itll either go to another player or the owner(s). either way the money never ends up back in the pocket of the fans.

Now once we sign Vlad and Pudge we'll be able to finish ahead of Tampa Bay AND Toronto...

Yup. Bill Bavasi has just made one of THE worst trades I have ever seen. What an awful deal.

Wait wait wait - you're saying that trading a 28 year old SS making $2.5M that consistently hits in the mid-700 OPS range with decent fielding skills for a 36 year old SS making $7 M, coming off of 2 knee surgeries who has only batted better than mid-700 OPS once in his career and who's defensive abilities are declining rapidly is a bad deal?

I have not been particularly impressed by Bavasi so far...

Apparently someone wasn't sold on Guillen AT ALL. They went after Tejada, fine, that's an upgrade, but Vizquel and Scott Spezio at SS and 3B instead of Guillen at just one of those positions? Yikes.

Don't worry Mariners fans. I'm sure that Vizquel's numbers will improve after changing his home ballpark from Jacobs Field to Safeco.

Sometimes, it's hard to believe that these guys get six figure salaries to make these decisions...
