Boo to Windows XP

Gosh Darn this thing is annoying.
Everytime I open 10-15 MP3 files or Picture files the status bar in my folder dissapears, machine halfway locks up, i can open some folders but no files.
Did a system restore and boom, it happens again after iv'e spent 2 hours loading all my MP3's on to my computer.

The interface is clunky and redundant, why do I need 3 different user settings for the damn thing and how can i get rid of them? some things are on the start menu for 1 user and not for others, how do I know which one im using? I put stuff in the "all users" folders and it doesn't show up so i have to go to another folder and.............MY HEAD IS GOING TO EXPLODE!!!!

I never thought I would say this, but I want my ME back.

I want to frigin buy FOF but i'm not installing any games on this piece o crap till I get this damn shut down thing solved.

George is gettin frustrated!!!!!!!

I spent $2,500 and I can't look at more than 20 pictures or MP3's before the system starts to go haywire.
I've googled and googled because honestly, sitting on the phone for 3 hours with Dell support is my last option, but i can't find jack sprat about my problem.
It's just so damn frustrating.

Have you tried going to Windows Update to see if there was anything that needed updated?

Be carefull when doing a system restore. You may back out of some updates.

I would not set up my system for different users if that is annoying. You are the system admin by default. You do not need a login password.

I don't think XP is your problem. I find XP Home and Pro to be the best OS out there. I would question Dell on how your machine is configured. I build my own, although my company does build for HP/Compaq and I have one PC from them that was factory built, including the OS.

Yep, the first thing I EVER do when I buy a pc or a family member does is re-format the HD and reinstall Win XP. I know you should NEVER have to do this, but sometimes all the preloaded crap is too much to sort through.... and who knows if anything was tested in the os load (which I'm sure is a ghost image from a CD).

Suicane, if you know anyone who could do this, that's what I would do. If not, tell them you want a technician out there to take a look at it.

Story:

My step mom bought a new Dell last year and had lots of problems with mp3's and for some reason my brother could never get the Sims to install, it would just freeze up. I took it home, formatted the HD and then reloaded XP home along with the updates.

Took the pc back to my s.mom's and wa-la, the pc has been working great. All her mp3's work fine and my brother has been playing The Sims without any problems.
