Volleyball Coaches?

Hey, I was curious if anyone out there coaches competitive volleyball? I'm a senior in college, and I play/coach/captain my school's intercollegiate club team, and was the manager for the school's DIII varsity women's team the last two years. I didn't play in HS, so I'm relatively new to the sport, but I'd really like to get into coaching once I get out of school... The bad part is I'm male, and have no varsity playing experience, and I know schools are getting more and more focused on bringing in female coaches... I was just curious if there were any other vball coaches on the board that I could just talk to about the game, and hopefully eventually working myself into the collegiate ranks of coaching... drop a line if you do. Thanks, and happy holidays!

Wow, being off boadr for 2 weeks makes me miss some interesting topics.

I've stepped into the training/coaching buisness of volleyball only a few months ago.

When it went unanswered for a day or two I gave up hehe... what level do you coach, and how did you get started?

Don't laugh, but at this point I'm more of an assistent and we're training a group of 7 boys and girls in the age of 8 to 12.
Recently they played their first match of what is the new game youth volleyball in the NLs and our kids beat up their opponents 14-4, kids from a volleyball club having the first teams playing at the highest level of volleyball in the country.

But honestly, at this point I am not very serious about the training and coaching, it's fun the teach the little kids and play some ball with them, wheter I'm going to actually get degrees and all is for the future to tell (though I did actually get some diploma a few years back making the current situation actually legally valid for me.)

Of course, the sports system in the USA is hard to compare how sports are performed over here in the Netherlands...

Gotcha, that's pretty cool. I have not worked with kids at that age in volleyball yet. I joined my college's club team when I went to college (age 18) not really knowing it was competitive. I decided to stick with it even though they were much better than I was. I'm a pretty smart guy and in my second year I took over most of the coaching duties along with playing. The next year I just coached the team because I figured it would be easier doing one over both, and that was how I could help them more. I also joined the women's varsity college team as a manager to get myself more familiar with the game. My final year I'm playing/coaching again and just finished the women's season..

So really I've only been around collegiate volleyball. It's a fun sport though, and I hope to coach at the high school level once I start teaching next year. Down the road I want to coach the college ranks, but I'm not too optimistic as our national volleyball coach's assocation and the collegiate ranks are both trying to promote more minorities into coaching. So being that I'm a white male they're basically making it as hard as possible for me to get a coaching job... bums....
