Gamecube Game Suggestions?
Well, one of the things I got for Christmas was a Nintendo Gamecube. Got it as sort of a "Party" system. I already own a PS2, so I was wondering if anyone knew of any Gamecube specific games that I should consider picking up? I already have Mario Party 5 and Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron II.
Any other suggestions? Are there even any other Gamecube users out there? ![]()

If you got it as a party system then Super Smash Brothers Melee isn't just a recommendation, it's a requirement. Super Monkey Ball is also a fun multiplayer game.
For single player games, I still recommend the new Metroid and Zelda games. Last edited by TargetPractice6 : 12-26-2003 at 05:39 PM. |

I'll second the Metroid and Zelda games, and add Mario Kart Double Dash.
Also, if you do have some interest in single player gaming and like the Mario franchise, Super Mario Sunshine is a solid game as well.

Super Smash Brothers Melee. Best party game ever.
Mario Kart: Double Dash is a solid game. Sonic Mega Collection if you're into the old-school Sonic games (Genesis and such). Monkey Ball (Monkey Ball 2 now) is also fantastic, but like everything else is a distant second to Smash. That's all the games I own (and probably will ever own) for the Gamecube ![]() |

Give 'Beyond Good and Evil' a try; some folks I've talked to have nothing but good things to say about it.

I enjoyed Pikmin a lot so I'm waiting for Pikmin 2.
The newest Rogue Squadron game was pretty fun, so was Eternal Darkness for a Silent Hill type game.

you gotta get Viewtiful Joe as well. Mario Kart DD is a great game as are the Zelda games and Metroid. One other thing you could do is buy a Gameboy Player for $50 and that way you can expand your library by playing all the gameboy games on your Cube. Then you can get Final Fantasy Tactics, Advance Wars, Mario and Luigu Superstar Saga...and the list goes on. The Cube and the Player still cost less than the Box and POS2..i mean the PS2.
mario party 5 is one of the lowest rated games that nintendo put out this year. its beyond horrible and the public should stop buying it so that Nintendo gets a clue and stops making it. |

If you decide to get something that *isn't* a party game, I have to heartily recommend Eternal Darkness. Creepiest video game I have ever had the pleasure to play.

Its basically a board game and there really is no skill in it at all. Luck pretty much rules the game. The audio is horrible.
I think the kids like it cause of Mario and all the other characters...but you have that in Mario Kart DD and it is a heck of a lot better game. My advice i guess would be to rent it first before you lay down 50 bucks for it. That or keep playing MP 4 and enjoy that one and save your money altogether. |

Everything the others said. :P If you have a family that likes games like The Sims, give Animal Crossing a try. I played it with my sister for a bit, and it was fun.
I rented Beyond Good and Evil yesterday.. very good game so far.. |

Thanks for all the suggestions! I think I will head out to the video store and give some of the games mentioned a rent and see if they will be added to the library!
Thanks again!

I'll recommend Eternal Darkness, and Metroid Prime. MP is one of my favorite games of all time, and THE reason I don't dump my Gamecube for some money. That and the fact that it doesn't go for much anymore.
I just can't find time for it between PC games, Xbox, PS2, and GBA:SP. Also, Zelda is my favorite series of all time, but the latest Zelda left a bad taste in my mouth. It was just too damn easy, and the sailing was the most annoying thing I've dealt with in a game in a while. It's just simply a very average game with a superb license. If it was "Legend of Conkers: Wind Waker", I just can't imagine most people would care. |

True Crime, Streets of LA is a must have. I bought it a month ago and I can't stop playing it... There's a mission-oriented storyline, but you can just pick it up and ride around LA responding to 911 calls as you see fit - awesome! You gotta get it... Only for 1 player though

True Crime is a really short game. It's fun and fully playable (no major gameplay annoyances), but it was over very quickly for me, and I didn't find a whole lot of replay value. Your mileage may vary, but I do recommend giving it a rental before buying.

I own both a Cube and PS2 as well, and except for Culdcept (amazing PS2 game, maybe the best I've played ever, including the GTAs), there just aren't good party games.
With Cube I have Super Smash Brothers, but I was disappointed. Mario Party 5, which is fine, Mario Kart DD which is great, Soul Caliber 2, also really good, and I just picked up Pikmin but I haven't played it yet (too much Culdcept, which I've played non-stop for a week despite TPF getting released and my massively looking forward to it) -Anxiety

Ive been playing Beyond Good and Evil for a week. I'm about 15 hours in. I'm playing it on the PC version and the graphics are among the best I have ever seen. A truly stunning and fun game.

Super Smash Bros Melee - It's both a testament to HAL and a bit of a knock on N but this first generation title is still the best thing out for Gamecube- decent single player and one of the most amazing party games ever made. A MUST BUY!
Mario Kart DD - Have only played for a few minutes so I can't really say. Most reviews I have read rate it pretty high but that it's not much of an advancement over the previous installment. Still, it's Mario Kart and you don't get much better than that. SoulCaliber 2 - Love the story mode and a great fighting game. Pretty close to a must buy. Super Monkey Ball 1/2 - Surprise breakout game from Sega. I have the second and have killed tons of hours playing both single and multiplayer. It has very hokey presentation but a challenging single player and fun multiplayer games. First Person Shooters - Certainly a weak genre for the Gamecube. I really haven't played any of the offerings this past year in it. If you must have one, go pick up a $15 copy of Timesplitters 2- lots of great multiplayer options to unlock but the single player is so-so and the level design is average. As for single player, this is where the Gamecube really shines... Metroid Prime, Zelda - If you don't know what these are, get your head out of the hole it's buried in and get yourself copies. Many rate these higher than SSBM but almost everyone agrees all 3 are must have games for the system. Tho, I'll agree with Pacersfan46 that this most recent Zelda was overrated (stupid fetch quests). Mario Sunshine, F-Zero - Not really critical favorites, particuarly Mario, but I love them for their old school challenge. These games are hard, especially F-Zero. Both games are absolutely gorgeous. However, each has something maddening about it. There are parts of the Sunshine that just make you want to destroy the camera. F-Zero, on the other hand, seems like an opportunity wasted, as it's pure racing game feel (versus a gimmicky racing game like Mario Kart) make for a boring multiplayer experience. Still, for their flaws, both are really solid games worth picking up for a few bucks. Beyond Good and Evil, Prince of Persia - A pair of multiplatform games that I've heard great things but they also sound too short (10-20 hours). I want my money's worth when I get a game so I will just wait until they become greatest hits or come down in price (much like I recently did with $15 copies of Star Fox Adventures and the Resident Evil remake). Viewtiful Joe - I feel negligent for not having played this yet, but everyone I know who has loves it. Supposed to combine old school platformer feel with amazing graphics and modern gameplay. I will get this game as soon as I can. Splinter Cell - If you don't have it for X-Box, get it for Gamecube. Animal Crossing - A kiddie version of the Sims, maybe? I don't really know how to describe it but that. However, it seems that it sinks its claws into the free time of everyone who plays it, young and old. I spent tons of hours on this game. Pikmin - A launch title kindof like Lemmings. Very fun and well worth the $15 you have to spend on it nowadays. Eternal Darkness - Again, very worth th $15 you have to spend on it these days. It's a great horror game that most reminds me of *pulls out the wayback machine* Shadowgate for the NES. Rogue Squadron 2, 3 - Factor 5's presentation of Star Wars is second-to-none. These remind me of the old Super Star Wars, ESB, and RotJ for the SNES. I still can't beat the last level on the RS2. Unfortunately, there's too many things like escort missions and not enough good ol' dogfighting. Still, good Star Wars fun. Upcoming Games - Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, Pokemon Colluseum Ok, I think I've covered most games mentioned here and even a couple that aren't. SI
