Post FOF/TCY HTML Export Utility

Hey everyone. I have begun to build this little HTML export utility for the league I am in (the USFL). Our commish want's to be able to export certain information from FOF TCY even if it isn't printable. This BETA utility makes that possible. Eventually, I hope to make it automated and have many many more features. Feel free to try it out. Post any problems or qyestions you run in to here. Functionality suggestions and input are also welcome . This has been tested thus far against TCY, but does work against FOF. Enjoy.

Thanks! This looks like a very useful utility, I've tested it a little with FOF2k4 and managed to crash it by exporting the "Hire/View Scout and Staff" screen. Most likely because of the slash sign in the title, which creates a non-valid name in the "Output File" field of your program.

Some FOF2k4 samples:

How come Richard Dent is listed as a Center?

Yeah looking at that 1983 draft, there are some glaring errors... Henry Ellard as a FB? Eric Dickerson as a QB?

Not sure if those are typos, but if they're not, someone needs to redo that draft file...

Richard Dent is listed as a C because when the grid is exported, the POS is returned to the exporter as a number. These numbers are different between FOF 2004 and TCY. This means that your replaces for these grids will be different. The replaces.ini file in the program folder is currently setup to add the TCY position replacements to any column that has "Pos" as it's header. I will fix this in the future to allow multiple configurations, but for now, I would suggest keeping a seperate settings.ini file for fof and tcy, and modifying the fof settings file to point at different directories and different replaces and catalog files. Then, just rename whichever you settings file you want to use to "settings.ini" in the main program folder, and it will use these. Then, removing the sections "Pos" and "Elig" (and their entries) from your fof replaces.ini file will stop the positions from getting the wrong designation. However, you will then get them as the number, until the proper replacements are setup for those numbers. Confusing enough?

Here is a replaces.ini file for FOF 2004. Put it in the program's folder, and rename it to "replaces.ini" (make sure you move the tcy one first) when you want to have the correct position designations for FOF 2003 exports.

Oh, now I understand, thanks for pointing that out, and for the new file!

I'll just add a disclaimer that there's nothing wrong with either the 1983 draft file or the export utility...

No problem! There are a lot more things I want to do with it, time permitting. It would be cool to be able to automate the whole process, especially when you will be doing the same exports over and over again. That will take some time, however.

Hey, you should be able to do HTML headers on the secont tab (format) in the HTML Header section. Just overwrite it with what you want to show above the table in the html. You can also do table formatting, and your HTML footer in the appropriate boxes there as well.

it's available here: http://fidosoft.com/FOF/page.viewproject.php?ID=11 and it should work with FOF4, but some changes to the "replaces.ini" file might be neccessary.

Thanks 3ric!

Yes, it is available from Fido's site.

Also, it should work with any version as long as you are printing from a grid. Keep in mind, the replace files may need to be modified for older versions. This can be done by clearing the replaces file that exists now (except the header), printing a roster from within FOFv4, and then entering the appropriate coorelations between the printed number and the true position on the grid. It is actually a lot easier than it sounds.

I'm having problems getting this to show the correct positions for the players. I installed the new replaces.ini file into the export utility folder, but I'm still getting output that lists incorrect positions. Can somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

when you right click to export the file, there is a section you can highlite and change the position info, you have to change the positions stuff there, it doesn't work to just edit the replaces.ini file

I took a couple hours to figure this out and felt really dumb afterward...

I've been wanting to do some updates to it, and hope to get to them in the near future.

Keep in mind that it will also work with all FOF versions to export their grids, not just TCY.

I've updated Draft Analyzer to use the output from this utility if the output matches an FOF draft class imported from TCY. Details over at http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/%7Efof/f...199#post604199

I haven't tested it myself. It should be completely compatible, however, because it relies solely on the grids, which are a component of windows. That means that until Jim drastically changes the way he does grids, it should be compatible with all releases/updates.

EDIT: Grammar. Bleh.

When reading the grids, some data is represented as numbers (positions are one of these). The replaces parameters take care of replacing them with the apropriate text.

That said, the replaces file that comes with it is for TCY which had those positions. The hell if I remember what the WO stood for now .

It is very easy to modify what these get exported as, though.

If there is a need for it, I can repost the FOF2k4 version of the replaces.ini sometime tonight.

As promised...

A FOF replaces.ini
hxxp://www.usfl-fof.com/TCYHTMLExport/fof_replaces.zip

FOF Setup options:
I. Run TCY HTML Export twice on same machine (TCY and FOF).
II. Run TCY HTML Export once for FOF.

I. Two copies.
1. Install the program.
2. Browse to where you installed it.
3. Copy the folder and paste it, renaming it to signify FOF usage.
4. Overwrite the replaces.ini file within the new folder with the one in the zip.
5. Delete the catalog.ini (if it exists).
6. Clear the ExportOptions and Exports folders.
7. Run the EXE in this folder for FOF exports or the one in the TCY folder for TCY exports.

II. FOF Only
1. Install the program.
2. Browse to where you installed it.
3. Overwrite the replaces.ini file within the main folder with the one in the zip.
4. Delete the catalog.ini (if it exists).
5. Clear the ExportOptions and Exports folders.
6. Run TCY Html Export as normal to export from FOF.

Let me know if any of you have any problems...

It will not work on my home PC for some reason.
It does work on a PC at my wifes office.

I think the error I get has to do with 'private.ini' can't be found or written.
I need to look at it again to remember.

First off, even though I already said this before-I love this utility. Now when Jim comes out with another version of FOF I can keep these stats from FOF2004 in a database to be compared to stats from the newer version. This way I can keep my league consistant.

OK, the only thing I've noticed so far about the HTML output is that when importing it into a access for database purposes "sacked yards" read as "field 14". I have to rename the field which is no big deal but I'm just wondering why it does that.

Either way, I am having one hell of a time with this utulity. IMO one of the best ones made for FOF2004 because it allows me to track & compile player & team data at will. This is great for scouting purposes.

Thanks again cwilloughby.
