Freak play in Arizona

I don't believe what I have just seen.

As a Packer fan, seeing that Arizona comeback/Viking collapse defies logic.

I guess I get some consolation being stuck watching TV where I could only see the Vikings

Could people be calling for Tice's head after this?

This sucks!

To be honest, the Packers are the only team that scares me as an Eagles fan. They know how to play in the cold, and are good on the road. This is not good.

Arizona scored on a controversial pass on the final play of the game to win; scored two tds in last two minutes, recovering an onsides kick in the process. Receiver on last play had only one foot in; ref ruled he was pushed out. Play was reviewed but apparently for possession. Looking at the replay, I would just say it is the type that could have been and has in the past been called either way.

RECAP:

Background: Packers playoff scenarios all become eliminated at game time, except the possibility of Viking loss at Arizona, and GB win at home v Denver.

Vikings carry a 17-6 lead late into 4th q. Arizona with big play gets to within striking distance and score a td. Missed 2pt conversion. Score 17-12. Onside kickoff with under 2 min to go recovered by Arizona. Drive down the field, 2nd down from the 9 (?) yard line. Mckown sacked TWICE I think. 4th and 24, clock running 6 seconds, from 26 yard line, scramble, TD pass to back the end zone as time expires.

Pushed out. Reviewed. TD good.

Vikings 9-7 eliminated from playoffs. Packers 31-3 at home NFC north champs.

Good... do away with those Eagles, because you know the Rams can't win on the road.

Where did I hear someone say that onside kicks don't matter much in pro football?

Wow, as a Packer fan, I was pretty disheartened when it was 17-6. Suddenly it was 17-12 and I thought maybe the Packers had a chance. Suddenly, Jim Nanz comes on saying they were reviewing the TD, I couldn't believe it! I am sooo thrilled at this point!

I think they meant two-point conversions.

I just hope that they don't play the Eagles. They are in the only team that could come in and beat them.

Hmm I almost felt sorry for the Vikes until I heard that Llama Jeff Dubay take a cheap shot at the Packers on Viking Fan Line.

Well I guess the Vikings can take heart, if the world was like PPF, they'd be going to the playoffs.

Sucks missing the playoffs on a judgment call like that. A pushout shouldn't be called unless you know the receiver is going to be able to bring both feet inbounds, which was not the case. But I'm a Vikings fan, so my view of the play is definitely biased.

Next season, next season, next season.

I think it was Bud Grant who said you should never put yourself in the position where a ref's call can change the game's outcome for you.

No doubt, you won't get any disagreement from me on that. I don't think that should have been called a touchdown, but that's why you don't let the opponent stay close. If you make the plays when you need to, it doesn't matter what the refs call.

That's ok. You didn't miss the playoffs on a judgement call, you missed it because of lousy coaching and lack of motivation.

As far as the call goes. Watching it played over and over again, made me realize that it was a good call.

It was a good call. The way the Vikings have been playing the last few weeks, I am glad they did not back their way in.

I believe the ref made the right call.

I think he made the wrong call. Doesn't matter though. They never should have let it get to that and they were burned.

The Pack could get hot and run through the playoffs. I doubt it will happen, but ya never know.

I have to say, the last couple weeks have witnessed some strange events. First the Saints missed extra point, then the Vikings choke. Just think, if you were playing FOF, TPF, FBPro, you name the football sim, and this happened there would be threads on a forum about how unrealistic it was.

As an Eagle fan the Packers scare me becauseof that whole "storyline" thing. The whole winning after the death of his father is instant TV movie material, especially in the manner it happened with him throwing for 300 yards in a half followed by the miracle in Phoenix. Sorry, I've just seen enough Philly dissapointments to feel comfortable about anything.

Now that would be a movie! Millions would riot just to get in and see that movie.

I was thinking Denzel as Culpepper and Tom Cruise as Brett. Somewhere I would have to get Nicholas Cage into the movie, maybe Sherman.

I'm on the casting couch:

Matt Damon as Brett Favre, Dave Chapelle as Randy Moss, Martin Mull as Mike Holmgren.

Huh, its definitely not the case that the ref knew he was going to come down in bounds? How would you know this? I think we can most definitely discount your view of the play as biased.

I do think it could have gone either way, but I applaud the ref for making a decisive call on something that is close and in a huge situation. Replay has for the most part turned NFL refs into wusses and they normally just wait for replay to make those calls.

I think it was a great call. He was coming straight down, and he was plenty in bounds for the other foot to have room. He SHOULD have gotten the other foot in, but we'll never really know because they did push the guy.

I was watching the game, and I've seen 100 replays, and I'm not a Vikings, or Cardinal fan, so I think my view is extremely unbias. In fact, I hate the Packers, and if anything would be skewed to saying he wouldn't have made it. Granted, I only don't like the Packers because my father loves them.

Um, do you know what the fuck you're talking about? Did they not beat the Chiefs, by 25 points or something like that. And i think they beat Seattle by something like 27 points also. So you obviously don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

But losing to Arizona, they deserve to stay home.

While I thought of that myself, in that persons defense Minnesota did start 6-0. From that point, they would be going backwards. They were 3 - 7 the rest of the way.

Not to mention you pointed out the 2 wins in the last 4 games (Seattle, and KC), but their losses in the last 4 games did come to Arizona, and Chicago.

any team that loses to the four worst teams in the league (all 4 4-12 teams) deserves to be watching the playoffs from the living room on TV

Yep, i think i already stated that. But when someone says ".......the way the Vikings have been playing the last few weeks....", well, they beat 2 playoff teams in the last 4 weeks. The last 10 weeks, overall, they played like shit and, yes, they deserve to clean out their lockers today. Just don't discount the fact that they beat KC and Seattle, two teams that are in the playoffs.

The really terrible part for the Vikings was when they stopped Emmitt on the 2-point conversion (the result of McKown throwing behind Smith). If AZ had gotten the 2 points, they would definitely have kicked a FG to tie on 4th down (maybe even miss it to lose - something Rackers is good at). Thus, giving the Vikes overtime and a chance to win it. Go figure!
