Levy to the Bears?

An interesting scenario.

Levy to the Bears?

Levy, 78, interested in Bears' opening

December 30, 2003

Hall of Fame coach Marv Levy, who led the Buffalo Bills to four Super Bowls and won two titles in the Canadian Football League, said Monday he would be interested in coaching the Bears.

Levy, 78, who retired as the Bills' coach after the 1997 season, said he is refreshed and ready.

''Yes, I retired,'' he said. ''So did Dick Vermeil. Twice. So did Bill Parcells a few times.

''I am interested in coaching again, and Chicago is a fantastic place. It's the place where I grew up.''

The knock on Levy would be his age. But he is clear-headed, runs three miles a day and says he has plenty of energy.

''It has been reflected back to me that age has been a consideration [when other jobs have opened],'' he said. ''You're only over the hill if you get complacent and overly comfortable and resist changing with the times. My daughter runs marathons, and I can go out in the park and beat her in a race. Age is only an approximate indication of how old you are.''

Levy has appeared on a weekly TV show with former Bears coach Mike Ditka this season and writes a weekly column for NFL.com. He lives in Chicago.

And having watched the Bears, he believes they can win soon.

''First of all, they have added some very good talent,'' he said. ''They have some young players on offense, and the defense has good, young players in Briggs, Urlacher, [Charles] Tillman, [Mike] Brown and more.

''You can really turn around quickly in today's NFL. What counts is how well you teach, how well you work with others.''

He has been talked about on the local sports radio but the Bears will never do it. They will go with a second tier coach who is a yes man. Now i could be and hope i am wrong but i just dont trust the McCaskeys to do anything right.

I would like to see Levy takeover i think he has the offensive mind they need to take the team to the next level. Who knows they could suprise me.

If he does come back, I hope he brings Steve Tasker with him! And Don Beebe...well, just his helmet, really.

And the K-Gun, the R-Gun, or X-Gun. Whatever he would call it, I don't care, I just want a team that I don't have to change the channel on every time they go on offense in order to save myself the $20 it takes to buy a new remote.

And in related news, Bud Grant has expressed interest in the Vikings job in the event it becomes open.
