OT: Used PS2

I'm interested in possibly getting a PS2. Electronic's Boutique has a deal where if you give a system and 7 games, you get a used PS2 for $70. Does anybody know if this is worth it? Just wondering.
Thanks.

I'd just buy one before I gave up a system.

I'd regret that like nothing else.

Also, PS2 isn't the most sturdy thing in the world. I'm not exactly sure I'd want a used one.

LOL

well, you'd be saving $79 off a refurbished ps2, and 109 off of a new ps2.

not sure if this is a great price.

Make sure it is a refurb. Don't get a used one.

Didn't the earlier versions of the PS2 have an issue with their laser housings or something. I thought it was similar to the whole PS1 incident where the springs on the laser were faulty. The solution to this (as told to me from a Sony rep) was to play with the PS1 upside down.

When I worked for a trucking company back in Wisconsin, we got about 3 trailers of returned PS1s. The whole trailer, 24 pallets each, were play stations in boxes.

I did hear that the first PS2s shouldn't be played in the stand that puts them on their edge.

I hear sony basically used crappy parts in the first builds of PS2....Substandard parts to keep the price of manufacturing a unit down. I know when I worked at Target, we had a lot of people coming in to buy their second one. That being said, its a pretty good deal, and as long as they gave you a decent warranty, Id probably do it. Chances are if it wears out in 6-9 months a new one might only be 100 by then anyways, meaning youd get 2 for the price that one sells for now.

You trading in an N64?

I will. Generally the used systems have problems which is why they are traded in. They don't really fix the problems and sell them. They only come with a 30 day return policy. Refurbs have been rebuilt with better quality components and have the same warranty as a new system. Don't get a used system when generally for 10 dollars more you can get a refurb.

I bought a used system from a store that wouldn't recognize any disk. When I took it back the next day the guy told me never buy used systems when you can get one practically new for ten bucks more. He said they constantly have the used systems returned and that he never recommends people to buy them even though they make much more money on used systems than refurbished ones.
