OT- Charlize Theron In Monster

Just saw this film last night and I must say, I can't imagine a better performance out of someone whom I never even considered to be an adaquete actress.
They praise guys like Pacino and DeNiro when they gain 20-30 pounds for a role but man, she transformed herself so completely, hair, body (not just weight), face, everything, and her performance has to be seen to be believed.
I'd equate it to Cindy Crawford delivering a Hepburn like performance.
It was a very good film (not sure if it's Film Of The Year worthy) but i can tell you right now that she will win the best actress oscar hands down.
Simply amazing.

Real-life story about a female serial killer. Theron is completely unrecognizable in the movie (which I haven't seen yet).

the babe we know and love:

her in Monster:

It's based on a true story (I know nothing about the actual story so I can't tell you how closely the movie follows it).

NON SPOLIER VERSION
Theron plays a woman who's had a very rough life and hooks up with a girl (Christina Ricci), alot of very bad stuff happens but it's also a very sweet and tender film.

SPOILER VERSION FURTHER DOWN

Theron plays a woman who was repeatedly raped by her Fathers friends as a child and was kicked out of her house at age 13, she becomes a hooker and is basicaly ready to kill herself when she meets Rici (who is gay).
The love story that develops is amazingly sweet and tender (theres a scene where they're kissing in an Alley and Rici says "I thought you didn't like women", to which Theron replies "I never really liked anybody")
But things get bad when Therons character kills a John who tries to rape her, and then they get worse when she either mentaly breaks down and sees every John as a rapists and decides to kill them or she just figures that the easiest way out is to kill and rob her Johns, the movie never fully distinguishes.
Anyway, things get very bad and intense at the end, I cried for a good 10 minutes after the movie, fully knowing that she was a cold blooded killer, it's rare that a movie can move me like that, especially when it's a "villain".

Dola,
The picture does a lot of justice to the facial changes but I went in expecting to see an uglier version of Theron with the same wooden acting, I couldn't have been more wrong.
The change in her body is just as amazing, Id say she gained about 30 pounds but it's not just in her stomach, it's all over, well proportioned.

Charlize Theron has spent about five years or so at the absolute top of my "list" fairly uncontested. I've heard about this movie, and am not certain that it appeals to me... but I'm not surprised that her performance is good.

First, Parker Posey will not be happy to hear about this.

I assume you skipped "Reindeer Games?" Everything about that movie was terrible.

I don't actually watch all of her movies... and I deliberately skipped Reindeer Games (how could you not) but practically everything I have seen her in (movies or just photos - she did a great shoot for Eqsuire a year or two ago) just reinforces my belief that she is the most desirable female on the planet to whom I am not currently married. Parker Posey is on the list, but Charlize is at the top.

Hmmm...might be a rental, in that case.

I would move to Blaine, Missouri for Parker Posey.

True. And I guess another downside would be that I'd have to go out of town for my penis reduction surgery.

not since the stool boom anyway...

was anyone else a bit disappointed with A Mighty Wind? It had moments, but I just didn't find it nearly as entertaining as Best in Show or Waiting for Guffman.

I liked all three quite a bit, although the dog show bits from Fred Willard put it over the top, IMO.

I think Wind tried to do a little more of the "touching" thing with the Mitch & Mickey relationship. As a result, it was not quite as flat out funny. I did not think that it was a worse movie, but it was less humorous.

Best in Show still takes the cake in my opinion. One of the few movies that gets funnier the more that I watch it.

The Mickey/Mitch thing really was more of an attempt to bring a "legit" feeling to the idea of a 60's folk reunion than an attempt at humor. Levy was doing a John Sebastian meets Ozzy thing, which was funny at first, but never went anywhere after that. And it wasn't like he could just snap out of it without losing the effect. Or, maybe it was just too subtle for my sense of humor.

Those would be two small reasons. I remember seeing a runway/fashion type pic with her wearing camo shorts and no top, and they were rather small. Cute, but very small.

She's still very hot though...
