Possibly the worst round of bowl games on a New Year's Day I can remember, at least to this point. None of the early games hold any sort of interest to me, all blowouts.
Oh well, guess I can catch up on my sleep a bit before the Rose Bowl. |

Whats up with all the bowl games moving to different times this year. What the heck is the Humanitarian Bowl doing on Jan 3. Why is the Peach Bowl on the second. Why are there so many bowls after New Years?

its probably because new years day is on thursday, that means alot of people probably have 5 day weekends, and viewer ratings would probably be higher?

That was the good thing back in the "old" bowl days. January 1st was the college football version of the first weekend of March Madness (which is the best part of MM).
Remember when there would be at least 6-8 bowl games on this day and on every channel. Citrus Bowl game a blowout, turn on the Cotton. Rose Bowl a blowout, change to watch the Fiesta. Tired of the Sugar Bowl game, watch the Orange. |

The "old" days on Jan 1 you had 3 bowl games, all in succession: Cotton, Rose, Orange (after the parades). The Sugar was NY's Eve and all of the rest of the bowl games were before them, as they should be. Bowl games on Jan 1 used to mean something, now most of them don't. Heck, bowl games period used to mean something, now they don't as much. I guess many fans are very willing to accept mediocracy and overkill, all in the name of something. |

Your "boys" are a bunch of freakin thugs after watching this game. Real class... Plus I think the score is now 27-23, after watching the Colts this year it can be done.

Incidentally, this is the trash-talkingest team we've seen all year. I can't for the life of me figure out why either.

Props to Purdue for not laying down & instead making one heckuva run at it after getting down 24-0.

wow, a meaningless bowl game inspired an "eff you" comment to Skydog.
I had no idea John Kerry posted here (not to mention the bizarre fact that he's a Purdue fan).

Whoo.... It's good! Meaningless posts to get to 700, but oh well! This game is way too much like the Outback Bowl these two teams played a couple of years. I do agree that Purdue talks a bunch of crap, but Georgia isn't being smart talking and hitting after the whistle. To overtime we go!

I woke up seeing them down by 10 just 5 minutes ago. I turn the TV off, click on this thread, and all of a sudden it's a game.

Comes down to 4 down for Purdue and they can't get it in the endzone... Georgia wins it!

What a great game from the second quarter on. Hopefully these will be the games that Purdue can win next year when Orton is a senior. Pretty good year overall, but not a good way to end it. Congrats to Georgia, you now have two on us.

It's the Big Ten, what do you expect. They got real lucky towards the end. Once it went to OT it was Georgia's game and Purdue didn't stand a chance. |

It ain't no secret, I'd cheer the French national team over UGA in women's j.v. water polo.
But, contrary to what SD seems to indicate, there's no shortage of UGA athletic supporters who have the same feeling about Tech.

Agreed with JiMG... there are two types of rivalries - the kind that you'd love the other team to be 12-1 every season, and the kind you'd love for them to be 0-13.

I submit my fiancee as counter-exhibit A. In ESPN's bowl mania contest, she picked UGA over Purdue as her highest confidence game. Tulsa over Ga Tech, 2nd highest confidence. Bah! Maybe it is because of the fact that I grew up in Columbus, not Atlanta. Being on the east bank of the 'Hooch, there was a lot of state pride between us and the Phenix City natives. They have Auburn and Alabama, and we have Georgia and Tech "representing" us. Further, being in the 80's in Columbus, Auburn was much more of a rival than Tech to all of my friends, both because of their success at the time, and because that was where the "braggin' rights" were. There were/are far more Auburn alumni in Columbus than Tech alumni.

The argument that the bowl system should be saved because it is tradition should now officially be dead. Apparently tradition is not as important to these bowls as an extra half-point in the ratings, or else they would all be on new years day.

The Orange and Citrus Bowl were each pretty good. If you wanted to see some great games, Bowl Week was the time to watch. Almost all of those 'lesser' bowls had great games.
