Urge to destroy world...rising.
So I ordered a DVD through Amazon.com on 12/27. They show it having been delivered at 9:26 am on December 31st. I know my local Mail Boxes Etc. (excuse me, it's The UPS Store now, isn't it?) has been open in the last couple of days, because I got three DVDs I ordered from bestbuy.com last night (and those came just *two* days after I ordered them), and I had those sent to the same address.
So either Amazon is jerking me around, or The UPS Store is. This isn't the first time I've had trouble with those jerkoffs not getting my mail to me. If I don't have it in my hands tomorrow, guess who's getting an ass-kicking? ![]() |

Dola - "those jerkoffs" being the people at The UPS Store.

Why didn't you have the packages sent to your house rather than to the Mail Boxes Etc store?

Okay, whew, for a minute there I was going to have to go to Amazon's defense. I ordered a motherload of shit from them while I was in Turkey for 3 years and it was very common to get stuff I ordered from the website 5 days later. 5 days! I figured, it must've taken the camel at least 3 days to get from Istanbul to Anakara once it got to Turkish carriers....so that's pretty good service that should be pimped not punked.

Because where I live, we don't have walk-up mail delivery, but instead these tiny-assed central mailboxes that are something like 1"x1". Seriously, they're frickin' small. If I'm applying for a credit card, or ordering something that might reasonably be expected to be sent via a normal envelope, perhaps I might've had it sent to the house. Anything package-sized isn't worth bothering over, because our mailmen don't do door-to-door under any circumstances. They'll go to your door, hang a thing on it, and drive off without even checking to see if you're home. |

Oh, if the tracking # is telling the truth, then yeah, I have no beef with them on those grounds. BUT. bestbuy.com was twice as quick, and didn't charge me a dime for shipping, whereas amazon.com DID. So I'm not gonna exactly be falling over myself to pat them on the back in any event. Never mind that they wanted a credit card # in order to allow me to redeem my gift certificate....grr. |

I guess you get what you pay for. While stationed in Turkey, BestBuy refused to ship anything to me. |

bestbuy.com doesn't ship to military addresses, that much I know.
That said, if 'you get what you pay for,' I certainly didn't. And haven't, yet, if we want to get even more literal about it. |

That's funny, because the price I paid on bestbuy.com is the same prices I was quoted in several retail chains as "what their price would be, if they had it in stock."
So not only did I get some harder to find movies for under $15 apiece, but I wasn't charged shipping. Meanwhile, Amazon DID charge me shipping, and, well...still waiting. |

Why are you jumping on Amazon? Once it has left their building, it's out of their hands. If something happened to it en route to your mailbox, or it was labeled delivered when it wasn't, then it's the company that's handling the package, not Amazon.

You didn't pay attention. It's not Amazon I'm *upset* with. It's The UPS Store. That's where my gripe was directed in the first place. Somebody else made a 'you get what you pay for' comment, and I simply pointed out that I paid for shipping from Amazon, and haven't gotten the product yet, their fault or otherwise. I didn't pay for shipping from bestbuy.com, and the product arrived twice as quickly as even what amazon has indicated their delivery date was. That's not 'jumping on Amazon.' That's stating a fact. My bestbuy.com order took two days. My amazon.com order, assuming that it has, in fact, been delivered (and that The UPS Store is once more to blame for not giving me a package - it ain't the first time it's happened), took four days. Plain and simple. Any delay above and beyond that is certainly not their fault, but it's not unreasonable of me to point out that the 'you get what you pay for' comment is unfounded. |

I love shopping online, but the shipping can be very frustrating. In the past I have had problems with both FedEx and USPS. Once fedex delivered a $1200 amp to the wrong house, then returned it to me after it had been opened. Then a few months ago the USPS lost an order of about 8 DVDs from bestbuy. Even though I could look at the tracking and tell it had been lost/stolen, I had to wait 14 business days before anyone would do something about it. My only choice was to contact the shipper(in your case Amazon.com) and get a refund.
IMHO UPS is overpriced, but they are really the safest bet. That said, I work for them and you do not want to see what actually happens to some of your packages. |

For christmas my girlfriend ordered me a chicago bears fleece sweater. It was shipped UPS and the tracking number stopped working on the 16th of december. She contacted UPS by email twice and they did not respond to her and the place she ordered from said your beef is with UPS. So the 28th of december rolls around and guess what. The package was delievered to her neighbours house about 4 doors down. Her neighbours being the idiots they are didn't notice it has her name printed on the invoice and 3 times on the package. The also didn't notice when they had to pay the custom charges her name displayed on the sheet twice.
Anyways she finally got the gift from them and they wanted to her to repay them for customs on the spot. All 7 dollars of it! We figure the only reason she got it back is because it didn't fit any of them. Moral of the story, someone else could of picked it up. See if you can get a signature receipt from UPS, it may help you figure things out. |

Hey, SackAttack, aren't you the guy who works for Best Buy? If so, don't you get some sort of discount on the stuff in the store that would've been better than buying it online?

What assholes! I mean, really... they give it to her AFTER Christmas (if it's delievered in December, chances are it is for that holiday) and then want her to pay the customs charge after they paid it without looking to see it was addressed to. Jesus...

Yup. 'Cept for two things. 1) The movies in question that I was ordering aren't available in-store. Don't ask me WHY, as bestbuy.com delivered three of them with alacrity, but the fact is, the Bogart films we carry in-store are, um...*thinks* Casablanca, Dark Passage, They Drive By Night, High Sierra, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, The Big Sleep, The Maltese Falcon, and there might be one other. And that's it. My parents gave me all of those except The Maltese Falcon, They Drive By Night, and High Sierra for Christmas. I picked up TDBN and High Sierra at work a day or two after Christmas, and picked up The Maltese Falcon from wherehouse.com with a gift card I was given by my aunt for Christmas. The movies I've ordered online are not available in-store, and haven't been for sometime. 2) My amazon.com order was courtesy of an amazon.com gift certificate I was given by another aunt. Best Buy doesn't accept those. ![]() So anyhow, yeah. I've exhausted my in-store possibilities at any rate. Ordinarily, I'd have done exactly as you suggest, but the circumstances in question preclude that, this time. |

I'm convinced that Internet businesses such as Amazon and eBay are actually run from Mars, so I don't think there'll be any interruptions there.

Actually, this sounds like good advice anyway. If you're so high-strung that having to wait a couple extra days for a movie you ordered shipped to you is really that big a deal (and clearly it is)... maybe we'd all be better off if you went the extra mile and just picked it up. |
