Should I get a Gamecube?

Ok, so the last console I got was a Nintendo 64 (which I split with my bro), but I hardly played anything on it.

So when the Gamecube dropped to $99, I thought it may be time to get a new console for games only on consoles (like NCAA 2004) or games that work better on consoles (like sports games or platformers). I figured the Playstation 2 and then the X-Box would drop to the $99 mark (based on rumors), but that hasn't come to pass.

The thing that appeals most about the GC is the price tag. I can't justify $180 or whatever for X-Box or PS2. I personally like the X-Box the best of all three. So should I go for the GC or wait for the X-Box/PS2 to come down in price or what?

Depends on what games you play.

I own all three (only paid for the GC, and that was a present to my wife, a big Zelda fan). I play sports games...and like the XBox more for those. I really don't play the PS2 anymore (use it as a DVD player, more than anything else.

I will say...I do like MarioKart Doube Dash...and would like to get a game that's kind of like the old Mario games. But other than that, for my preferences...XBox is worth it.

The GameCube is the last console I'd get. Get either an Xbox or PS2. I have both, but mostly play the PS2.

There are some amazing games on the GC, and I'd reccommend it as a purchase. That being said though, if you plan to buy sports titles, get an xbox or ps2.....the GC memory cards are way too small. And there is no online options either.

GC ist tempting for the price, but it also depends on what type of games you like and whether you plan to play online.

PS2: EA Sports on-line, larger (and cheaper) library of games, upcoming (yet far-away) release of MGS3

XBox: Better graphical content (esp. with sports), on-line limited to Microsoft and ESPN games, upcoming (yet far-away) release of Ghost

As mentioned above, it depends on the games you play. I just bought a GameCube on Boxing day for the party type games (I am hooked on Mario Party!!!). But, I already own a PS2 and play games on my computer religiously, so it is easier to get a GameCube for only party games.

I have all 3.

I got the PS2 when it came out. I got the GC when Metroid Prime came out. I got the XBOX when KOTOR came out.

After having all three, I would say that the GC is the best. I like the exclusives on the GC more. If you have kids that will play as well, then I think the GC is definitely the better choice.

No kids here... I'm only 23 after all .

I was mainly getting it for NCAA 2004, some other sports games (perhaps), and some platformers. For the RPGs and other games, I got my trusty PC.

My question is, is the sports experiance THAT much better on an X-Box that it is worth the extra $100? Remember, I'm a poor law student, who would make that extra $100 go a long way .

If you want good platformers, I suggest the PS2. Sly Cooper, Jak 1 & 2, and Ratchet and Clank 1 & 2.

GC rocks, and this is coming from a 26 year old. People need to get past the Nintendo image and realise that it's all about fun gameplay, and the GC has it in spades.

Well if you figure the Memory card is 20 bucks for the GC. Its only 60 bucks more for the Xbox. And you still get 2 free games with the xbox

See, if I got to PICK which 2 free games I got, I'd be all over it. But I don't want the crap they package with their X-Box's. I mean, you'd have to add $50 to whatever I get because as soon as I do get a game system (if I do), I'll be picking up NCAA 2004.

Well, sports games on the Gamecube are certainly a weak spot. But for me, it's good enough- I can save one or two franchises on my 251 memory card and the real draw is to sit there and play with friends over here. They don't have the game selection of the other systems, particularly, the XBox. But if you are buying the EA games, every system has them. However, if multiple franchises and online games are a deal breaker, you have to get the XBox and PS2.

As for platformers, N's got the advantage with Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Sonic, etc. PS2 has Jak and the XBox is kindof lacking. Of course, 3rd party offerings go to each.

And the best thing you can do is not get caught up in the "which is the better system" debate unless you're a connoisseur or something. Get the system that is right for you- that has the genres that you like. Very few people like all genres but everyone wants to reccomend the system that they have.

Well I don't care for online games ever... I don't think I'll be doing multiple franchises really... and if I am, I can always get another memory card, I guess .
