Computers

I was wondering if you find the computer companies and service to be, boring and lackluster? Do you agree? Your thoughts?

"What" computer companies? I personally build all my own computers, except for my laptop since it's not really easy to do.

Like Dell, Gateway, Hewlett Packard, Alienware, ect.. Not everyone wants, or can, build their own computer.

wouldn't you really want that company's service to be competent and professional?

Sorry,
I misposted my question. What kind service do you expect from a Dell, who dells directly with you, or what do you expect from a computer company?

Thats a hilarious typo. And since I build my computers, except for the laptops, I'm really not much help.

It is shockingly easy. If you can both hook up a VCR and install your video drivers, you can get a computer running. Want to is another story...

Because Dell (and most other companies) have shipped out tech support services to other countries (mostly India) I feel that the overall tech support quality has gone down. Sometimes cheaper doesn't always equal better.

Luckily for business clients Dell is using tech staff from the US for phone support. After much outcry from their clients.

Overall, based on my history: Dell has the best support. Compaq/HP 2nd, IBM 3rd. I have heard rumors that Alienware's support is not that good. But I have not dealt with them directly. I have not dealt with Gateway for some time as the quality of their product was questionable.

I have never bought a computer ready made. I have always bought mine piece by piece.

Is Dell really that good? So the customer service of Dell is not that good? I'm always curious, if your computer breaks, what do you do with through Dell? Is Gateway doing well? What's wrong with the quality?

About 7 years ago, I called Gateway tech support with a question, and I knew more than the woman who answered the phone (and I don't know much). And my computer never quite worked right (had problems when it woke up from sleep mode). Take that for what little it is worth.

I've heard Dell has really gone downhill since going overseas. My parents have had different Dells for about 6 years now and they have really complained a lot more lately.

You'd think it would be the same since 95% of all calls are just handled by going through a flow chart on the computer. They just sit there and ask you what is on the screen and follow one of the choice.

However, if my parents are calling, it's not a moronic "what is this cupholder thing on the front of the compter" (if it's one of those, they always call me first). So, they always fall on that 5% and before there was always a resident tech dork (better than myself) on hand who could fix it but now they have either someone who only knows as much as everyone else or who barely speaks English and they can't understand the problem.

Doesn't Dell send someone to your house to fix your computer? Is that true? How do you repair computers if you have to take them somewheres?
