College Football Hall of Fame

They redesigned their site recently and I just made a search among the recent retired marquee QBs of the NFL and found this odd thing:

Steve Young, Dan Marino and John Elway are inducted as College Football Hall of Famers....
...while Joe Montana isn't.

weird don't you think ?

I presume it is based on college career. Young, Elway and Marino were all studs in college (Elway and Young were both consensus number 1 pick's). Montana was merely pretty good at Notre Dame (49ers got him in the 3rd round IIRC).

Montana's stats were less than impressive in college.

4121yards 25tds 25ints

Not quite HoF worthy.

That's right, his College stats are mediocre BUT once thing I've noticed is that when a player has a Hall of Famer career in the Pros...basically no matter what, the College Hall of Fame will induct him. And that's not the case with Joe Montana.

I think it's more likely to help them into the college football HOF... but there is simply no way Montana can get in with those stats.

He didn't have Jerry Rice running those cheesy 3-yard slant patterns.

this just is not true. Do a search for QBs 1980 to 1990. Yo uwill see a real mixed bag of NFL talent there. Sure you have Elway, Marino, Young - who were all inducted as soon as they were eligible. You dont (yet) see some of the other big names. Going back, I don't seem to see a Unitas.

You're right Fritz. I made yet another search on all the QBs that have been inducted into College Football Hall of Fame and indeed a lot of NFL "big names" aren't.
