I wouldn't like a McNabb with cheese, fries, and a coke
Ok, what do the Eagles need to do for 2004?
1) Bench McFlabb and play Balsa-wood Detmer having Feeley for backup. 2) Release Thrash and Pinkston 3) Pickup a 4-6 yr vet WR that can get open 4) release Buckhalter 5) Pickup a 4-6 yr vet RB and ditch the RB by committee B.S. 6) Let the vets go - Vincent, Taylor, Staley (save that money) |

None of the above. Having plenty of cap room they can do some shopping for offensive line help and an improved receiving corp. Ok maybe that's partly #3. Staley is gone but I'm not sure that's the correct move considering Westbrook looks frail.

2 - Relegate them #3 and #4 (I don't care who is who). Sign #1 WR, make Mitchell the #2.
3 - See #2. 4 - Have Buckhalter be the goalline back, and thats it. 5 - Instead of ditching the Committee approach (which actually worked well). Force Reid to call running plays by instituting a "Shock Approach". Hook him up to a generator which shocks him if he doesn't maintain at least a 60% pass 40% run ratio. 6 - Vincent is done. Taylor is worth brining back at the right price. Staley no more than 2 mill a year. |

I would agree that the WR's and CB's have gotta go. McNabb is fine as is the duo at HB... they'll be ok again next year.

McNabb is fine? I have to disagree with this. Injury or no last night, that was pitiful. Having a minute fraction of gameday snaps, Detmer was able to march down the field, albeit the drive ended in an INT, but overall that was a good drive and he was throwing far more accurate passes than McDrabb.
I say let go Staley, because he is gone. They won't pay him what he will want (remember Trotter). Westbrook is good, but fragile. Pick up a vet for main duty and use Westy on 3rd and long. More later |

Wouldn't surprise me if Staley came back after all.
The RB-by-committee was the key to the Eagles' success this year. You can't possibly argue otherwise. Buckhalter is a good option in the 4th quarter -- fresh legs against a tired defense. He almost singlehandedly put a couple games away this year by breaking off 60 yard runs in the fourth quarter. The real question: Was our secondary better with Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown than it was with Bobby Taylor and Troy Vincent? |

I agree, and that Peyton Manning dude, 4 interceptions, what the hell is that? Oh, and that Bret Favre guy, he cost them a chance for the Super Bowl, bring back Doug Pederson says I. No offense man, but if you think McNabb should be benched you're an idiot. |

I don't think you can give up on McNabb until you get some decent WR's in there and prove that he can't win with some help around him. The Eagles talent level at the offensive "skill" positions is horrible, aside from McNabb, IMO.

He is prone to the bad, poorly timed penalty, I'll give you that. I guess, at the beginning of the year, I didn't really expect anything from him. But he made some real nice plays during the season, and generally was a more positive addition than I expected him to be. |

I personally don't think they should give up on McNabb at all, but figure that the general consensus among the typically doomsday Eagle fans is that McNabb just won't ever be "the guy".

This is what amazes me about the Eagles. They've had to ride their defense for the past few years to earn their wins, imagine how good they could've been had they had that true #1 wide receiver for McNabb to rely on at crunch time. McNabb has won games by himself, as has the D, as has the RB committee, but they've never had a receiver that could truly dominate a game, and from what I've seen, that's really the last piece to the Super Bowl puzzle for the Eagles.

T.O. would be a perfect fit and get this team over the hump.
That is if they have a new WR coach... |

Duece Staley, Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor will probably not resign with the Eagles (at least, that's how it looks right now). SO there goes their pass defense and their RB commitee. I think they'll just stick with Westbrook with Buckhalter as back up. Who knows what they'll do with their CB's, and by looking at the division they are in, they're going to need good corners. Giants have Toomer, Hillard and Shockey. Cowboys have Galloway, Bryant and Glenn. And the Redskins have Coles (takes two guys to cover that guy.
). SO the Eagles better find a way to resign those corners or find better ones. And that will cost them a lot. |

Wouldn't be the first, nor will it be the last time that idiot was in the same sentence with my name. Putting McNabb on the same pedestal as Manning and Favre? I'm not going to call you idiot, because that just isn't my way, but I would have thought the advanced WYSIWYG editor shouldn't have allowed that. Every player has off-weeks. Great players have less than good which have less than roster-fodder. McNabb has more off-weeks than on, IMO. Detmer, a guy with a huge difference in playing time in his career, was able to move the ball down the field where McNabb could not. Has anyone that has commented on how good McNabb is watched any games the past few years? Last night he proved that (and this is pre rib-injury) if he can't run, he is doomed. Sure, he has had a few brilliant games and his ability to avoid sack is one of the best (last few weeks notwithstanding), but not consistently, the same which cannot be said of Manning and Favre. And, sure the WR in Phila aren't the best, but well placed passes can make up for that. Detmer was hitting receivers in stride, and that was in very good coverage. Look, I know they will never bench Donovan, but don't give me this "bring back doug pederson in GB" bullshit. Favre has proven himself over and over throughout his career. Donovan hasn't. |

Should they maybe try to pull of a big deal to jump up in the draft and grab a top receiver?

I don't think anyone around here (Philadelphia) is saying that McNabb won't ever be the guy. Just last week he almost single-handedly won the game against the Packers.

Despite my McRant, this is where I would start. It definitely can't hurt them. I was never thrilled with Thrash, and Pinkston's great promise seems to have fizzled. Mitchell is finally developing into a decent receiver, but he still shouldn't be the number 1 WR. |

In recent posts I have even gone as far as saying that McNabb may still be the second coming of Christ in a jersey, but I think his play is way too inconsistent at this point. He may not be driven emotionally, but they could easily find out his true self by benchin' his ass a few games and see what he does about it. And yes, McNabb ran his ass-off the other week, but that aspect of QBing has proven time and again that it can't be your main weapon. |

I have a feeling that unless they can pull off move to land Larry Fitz or Roy Williams, they are just going to end up with another guy like Mitchell and still lack a go to guy. Where they are drafting, a better pick would be going secondary or Linebacker and trying to grab a WR in free agency.

WRs in Philly aren't the best...you got that right...but well placed passes can make up for that...like right at them????
As for getting sacked a little too often this week and last...probably more related to the coverage or inability for the receivers to get open. |

Bench him? MY GOD MAN, he's led this team to the BEST RECORD IN THE NFL OVER THE PAST 4 YEARS!!!! Light a fire under his ass for what, so that they can consistently go 14-2 or 15-1? Perhaps if he were a really good QB we could go 16-0. |

His TEAM has had the best record, he hasn't. That's the problem with all this hoopla is that everyone thinks all there sucess is because of McNabb, and it isn't. Not even close. It has more to do with how Andy Reid has been able to make the most out of nothing than it does McNabb. There offense has been inconsistant every year, and when they're bad, they're awful, McNabb Included. Put him on the Cardinals or this years Raiders and they're still 4-12. He's just a good QB who the media constantly tries to push as a top-tier QB when he is not, and has never been. |

No, their offense has had a few bad games every year, just like every team, and when it's in the Playoffs on a national stage, boneheads say to themselves, "hey, everytime I see this team they suck, that McNabb guy sucks." The fact of the matter is that over a 10 game period this year that Offense was on frigin fire, did you see how they dismantled the Dolphins? I can't for the life of me understand how a team wins 11,12,13 games every year and as soon as they lose in the Playoffs, people wanna bench the damn Quarterback. McNabb has never had a god damned #1 WR since he has been there and he still manages to win at a record setting pace throwing the ball to journeymen tight ends and #3 WR's. |

If TO goes to Philly he will have the worst and most innacurate quarterback throw to him that he has ever had in his career. TO has had Steve Young, Jeff Garcia, and Tim Rattay throw him passes thus far. All three are pinpoint accurate. McNabb is below average in the accuracy department. You think he whines in SF? You aint seen nothin yet.

I'd be interested to see how McNabb responds if he had a player on his team that thought he was better than the QB. Post-game interviews would be interesting. Seeing Owens go off and blame the QB. No one on McNabb's team has blamed him for anything publicly...it'd be interesting.

Only a person who isn't white is allowed to publicly rip McNabb. Eminem being the one exception.
