Or the Hope Nation Series by David Feintuch. This is one of the best series I've read. There are three books that I've read in one night: The Firm, the first Harry Potter book, and Midshipman's Hope. To me, these are leadership books, and they are vastly more interesting than the typical sci-fi fare, albeit with some homo-erotic tendencies. Midshipman's Hope, Challenger's Hope, Prisoner's Hope, and Fisherman's Hope are all good books. Voices of Hope, because it doesn't come from the Nicholas Seafort point of view, isn't as good, but Patriarch's Hope redeems the series.
