OT - Episode 3 Footage
http://koti.mbnet.fi/dukeirot/ep3/
This is by no means complete. It looks to be some sort of documentary. Those avoiding spoilers should probably avoid this. It's not much, 2:39, but it's something if you're looking. |

but more than enough blue/green screen to let us know Lucas has learned absolutely nothing after the piles of crap that are episodes 1 & 2. |

I'm probably in the minority, but I don't see how this one could be a bad movie.

I agree. The problem that is that Lucas has become obsessed with them. I don't think he releaizes how much standing in front of a blue screen (rather than a realistic looking set or real location) drastically affects the actors. Also, taking to non-existent characters doesn't exactly bring out the best acting jobs. Quote:
Have you watched episodes 1 or 2? I've gone from Star Wars nut to Lucas hater because of them. Quote:
Whoa, that's a bold statement. Portman is an above-average actress. Lucas is clearly a shit director when he takes known good actors (McGregor, Portman, Sam Jackson) and they magically turn in terrible performances under his rule. He's clearly failing in the primary task of directing - directing the actors to act as they should. Even Christensen has gotten great reviews for his work in Shattered Glass. Hmmm... all these good actors magically turn in shit performances all at once. i wonder where the problem lies? |

Christensen definetly had the 'evil' look down, even without the body armor of Vader. Decked out in all black with that hair make him look nice and sinister.
And damn, it looks like the battle between Obi-Won and Anakin is going to be AWESOME! Looks very very nice . |

I think Christensen has gotten bad rap because of the last Star Wars film. He's been pretty good in other movies he's been in. Portman is an adequate actress, nothing special, but not as bad as she's been in Lucas' movies. Jackson has seemed like he took some lessons from Keanu Reaves because he looked like a cardboard cutout reading straight from a cue-card.
If Episode 3 has as much action as I've been hearing since they announced they would making the first 3 episodes, then I'm probably not going to be disappointed since my chief complaint has been the fact that the previous 2 have been about as dull as I could imagine a film being.

I agree, but I'd say Attack of the Clones is right up there with ANH, IMO. RotJ comes after that and then TPM, which understandably sucked because it was designed as an introduction movie. |

Well I got it to run and holy cow I got chills. Its a LOT of the fight scene between SPOILER*****
Anakin and Obi - Wan. Man Anakin looks EVIL during a lot of it. And I don't care what people say about me or think about it, but I have liked all the Star Wars movies, none really more than the another. I am a fan, and I think its a little funny how the newer ones get bashed by all of us old fogies and the kids still just eat it up like we did when we were little. Anyway, carry on...

I've found that I like Return of the Jedi more than most, but am not retarded and do realize that A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back are better. Bias aside, I don't think that Attack of the Clones was better than RotJ, though it was miles better than The Phantom Menace.

I take offense to this. I've never seen anything from Keanu Reeves that would indicate that he actually knows how to read.

I don't think you can blame overly ambitious special effects on the lower quality of the prequels compared to the original trilogy. The LOTR trilogy is on par with Episodes 1-3, and I hear little if any criticism that the special effects and computer generated characters are a negative. I place the blame for any critical lapses on the prequels on:
* George Lucas' declining skills as a screenwriter and director. Lucas had been on the sideline for a longtime, and I don't think there was any doubt that from a film standpoint, the direction and writing of ESTB and ROJ were supperior to ANH when Lucas handed those jobs off to others. There is also the possibility that while George Lucas maybe a genius at story ideas and production (look at the track record!), he may just have been a lucky director. This is the man who brought us Howard the Duck. Lucas is also The Man at Lucasfilm -- I don't think he has anyone there who will say the emperor has no clothes. * Too much anticipation and too much information. When I went into ESP, I didn't know Darth Vader was Luke's father. Now, not only do I know where almost all of these characters are going to end up, I also know a lot of the plot and storylines thanks to almost unavoidable media coverage. It's hard to make a suspenseful film in those circumstances. Also, let's not forget that what we are watching is prologue -- this is the first half of an epic saga. How much enjoyment and suspense would there be if you read the last half of Homer's The Odyssey first and then read the first half last? |

I couldnt get the clip either...
You could say the same thing with The Lord of the Rings. The story is already predefined so you know basically what is going to happen. The only "suspense" is how is Peter Jackson going to do it and what parts will he cut to make the movies flow. I liked Attack of the Clones much more than Phantom Menace but they both entertained me. I think the internet has spoiled a lot of people including me. When I was a kid and Empire Strikes Back came out, I had no clue what was going to happen. Growing up in a hick town and having to drive a distance to go see it probably added to that. Now if I want to I can go look it up and find some pretty accurate info of what Episode 3 will end up being.I think the prequels are cool just to see how some of the main characters ended up where they are in the original trilogy. How the Empire came into being, the Jedi Purge and the Clone Wars does interest me. As far as the acting goes, well Mark Hamill and crew didn't necessarily put on Academy Award winning performances either. They were just entertaining just like these new actors are. About the CGI, sometimes I think there is too much. In my opinion Gollum in Lord of the Rings is the most "realistic" CGI I have ever seen. The only thing I wish Lucas would do is quit limiting himself to his 120 minute box. He could let his movies go 2 hours 30-45 minutes and no one would complain.

Thank you for someone finally saying this, i was about to post this as i read through the whole thread, finally on the last post i read there it is. I love all the Star Wars movies, very entertaining to me. Of course, i don't take it TOO serious, and have absolutely no cares about what/how Lucas is doing to "mess up" these movies. Some people seem to take the new movies as a personal insult to them from Lucas himself, and i think that is a little insane to me.

My own personal take on the new trilogy is to try not to compare them to the first 3 AT ALL.
Because I've seen those movies soooo many times, they totally transcend the normal rules of movies. NOW I can see that the acting - and a lot of the dialogue - is pretty poor, but because I first saw them as a kid that doesn't matter. So I'm going to reserve judgement on episodes 1-3 for another 15-20 years - THEN I'll be able to compare the whole lot. Interestingly, we had a Star Wars day last year - got folks over, had popcorn, hut dogs, beers, and watched the lot. 4-6, then 1 (just before AOTC came out). My wife, who'd never seen ANY of them before, said she enjoyed Phantom Menace the most! Which I think maybe proves my point |

For those who can't get the video to work, it's an .avi file, so it might be in DivX format. You might want to check on that.

dola,
Honestly, you're not missing much. It looks like it is just footage for a documentary. Most of it was actors doing their stuff in front of green and blue screens. |
