Trying To Catch A Chipmunk

Well, we thought we had a mouse in the kitchen for a couple weeks, so we bought the usual traps and such. However, we found out just a few minutes ago, as it paid us a visit in the family room

that it is actually a chipmunk. I think it may be more desperate now and that is why it is leaving the area where it originally was confined to. We tried shooing it to the door but it didn't want to go out into the cold (cant blame it really) then ran back and hid in the kitchen. There is a hole from the wall to one of the kitchen drawers that it is using to get in. Does anybody have any ideas on how to catch it and get it outside?

Call animal control. Chipmunks carry ticks and fleas that are the bearers of some pretty nasty diseases, as I recall. I don't know that this is something you'd want to deal with yourself.

Ooh, didn't know that. That's probably what I was leaning towards anyways, but was at work all day yesterday so didn't have the chance. Thanks for the info.

My parents had a chipmunk in their house last year. They chased it around for an hour or so to no avail. Finally they lost track of it and decided to do some house-cleaning while waiting for it to appear again. So a few minutes later, my mom is vaccuuming behind the couch with the plain round attachment when *thwump*!

Sure enough, there is a chipmunk stuck to the end of the vaccuum! Not wanting to turn off the power (it would drop and scurry away) she screamed for my Dad to get a bag or box. Dad came running, but as he approached, the poor little chipmunk must have squirmed a little too much and *thhhhhwuuump!!!*

This time he was gone. They took the vaccuum outside and opened it up, but he wasn't moving. He had no visible signs of injury, but I guess the sheer suction of it must have done him in. They left him on the ground, hoping he was just in shock and would wake up, but he never did.

So anyways, ice, if you don't care too much about the life of the chipmunk, you could always try vaccuuming

Well, no sign of the chipmunk in the last 24 hours. I called animal control and they gave me some ideas for what to do, but maybe I will not need them after all.

No sign could be bad...we had rats in our apartment at one point, and when they started to not show up, we thought we had 'won....' Well, we had...but it died somewhere unknown. The problem with that is it stunk to holy hell, which sucked ass. You might want to attempt to find it, or at least determine if it's still there.

Well, the problem is, if it is still in the house, it is in the walls somewhere. I need to lose a little bit more weight before I can fit in there

What animal control told me is that it probably got in through a hole in the attic and may have made a nest up there. It got into the house because our kitchen is poorly designed and the cabinets open right into the middle of the wall with no boarding over them, so it got in through one of the drawers. We removed the drawers so it would not be able to hide in them like it had been doing, so that may be enough to keep it from the living area. At least if it is in the attic, it is farther away from people and easier to deal with in terms of how to catch it.
