yet another "rate my buy"

I'm planning to switch to winger training sometimes next season. I will definitely do winger training during my cup run, which may last only 3 or 4 rounds, but still . Then I'll do some playmaking training to up my three starting inner mids to brilliant/brilliant/outstanding, at which point I will switch to winger training for good.

I have already bought 3 winger trainees, in order to give them some playmaking training this season and today was my shopping day for a possible wingback trainee, a player with reasonable winger skill, and at least excellent defending skill. Here's the guy I bought for 612K U$

Reuven Zaltzman (22697681)
18 years, passable form, healthy
A controversial person who is balanced and honest.
Has disastrous experience and weak leadership abilities.

Nationality: Israel
Assessed value: 602 000 C$
Wage: 4 800 C$/week including 20% Bonus
Owner: Cerio's Dragons FC
Warnings: 0

Stamina: passable Goaltending: disastrous
Playmaking: passable Passing: wretched
Winger: inadequate Defending: excellent
Scoring: inadequate Set Pieces: poor

He is not a pull of this week, so he was probably trained up to excellent. He was pulled on 01/02/2004, so fairly recently. The weird thing for me is he has already been sold three times, here is his transfer history...

DateFromToPriceValue then
1/28/2004IF Tunabro Cerios Dragons F1 224 000 C$(602 000 C$)
1/15/2004Fight KlubbIF Tunabro 1 602 000 C$(614 000 C$)
1/8/2004beitar daFight Klubb1 224 000 C$(586 000 C$)

Quite weird huh? the guys buys him for 801kU$, puts him on the market about a week and a half later, starting price at 600k and he ends up selling him for the exact same price that he was originally sold, 612k U$...

I'm happy with him, he'll be playing tonight against ardent's Raiders. AE, don't you dare hurt him!

Interested in your thoughts about this fellow...

my only thought is his strongest skill is defense. so then you have good playmaking and winger skills. the only problem is they cant be used at the same time. he would make a great offensive center defender and a great wingback. but wingbacks dont use playmaking and offensive center defenders dont use winger. its nice that he could play either position, but when he is playing one position, he is wasting skills in another.

dont get me wrong though, he is still better than any players i have. im just making an observation.

yeah, I had thought about that, but the way I saw it is that he could also be a backup winger, more of a possession type winger, once he's played a bunch of games at wingback and his winger skill is a bit higher... I read somewhere that wingbacks played offensive do use a bit of playmaking, so that would be a bonus

Great buy...Excellent defender with training potential and decent playmaking...and for only 612k? I think that's a home run, FrogMan.

EDIT - While he may be wasting his skill as a playmaker as a wingback, if he ever gets trained far enough, he'd make a beast of a winger. Defense still counts there, IIRC.

Offensive wingbacks contribute to midfield so his playmaking isn't wasted.

I agree. Great buy. Yes, defense counts on the wing and good defensive winger does make a good guy to have on the "naked" side of a symmetric 3-5-2 (the side without the centreback).
