Age of consent in Virginia is 18.

But apparently, if this article is correct, the age of consent isn't the key in Virginia (that varies from state to state AFAIK).
In this case, as I read it, statutory rape is still a possible charge
State law allows police to bring a statutory rape charge against anyone having sex, even if it's consensual, with a person 15 or younger. The charge is a felony if the age difference is more than three years.

C'mon, man. Let's be real. How many guys'd be in jail if they started rounding up all the guys who had sex with a fifteen year old when the guy was nineteen?

Unless the story has him particularly taking advantage of her, then this just more modern foolishness. Law enforcement really needs to spend less time chasing celebrities.

That is true, it is possible he didn't know she was 15. However, there is also the issue of having sex with a possibly intoxicated individual. Sounds like he would have known this.

It doesn't sound like this would have come to legal attention unless the girl and/or her friends complained. Therefore, one can presume that they perceive him as having taken advantage of her. Again, the issue of alcohol complicates this situation.

Also, I admit I'm a little emotional (and therefore maybe not as logical as I should be) on this subject right now as one of my patients just attempted suicide because a 20 year old raped her while she was intoxicated. She is 14.

My point is that there is no such thing as a law that you can selecttively enforce. If it is selectively enforced, then it's just a way to persecute people.

This is most likely a couple of teenagers having sex. Unless she was passed out or he physically forced her, then this is absurd.

Sure it's against the law. I never did it. But we all know plenty of people who had girlfriends that we still in high school when the guy was in college.

We don't know the details of the case. But every time I hear about one of these cases it sounds fishy to me. Whenever something really went down, there is some other crime that happened-- unlawful detention or some such.

This brings to mind a story I heard about another player named Marcus Dixon (SkyDog should know more about this, being in GA and all). Dixon was a 19 year old senior in HS who had sex with a 15 year old. He got 10 years in jail.

Sorry about your patient, but you have to realize that almost all sexual encounters at a college outside of a relationship involve possibly intoxicated individual(s).

IMO, the most likely scenario is consensual sex where the girl's parents found out afterward and tried to get him on anything.
