Computer Startup Problem

I started up my computer about 10 minutes ago, and during the setup screen (where it shows the processor, hd space, ram space...) I got a message saying "No Keyboard detected, press F1 to continue, DEL to go to Setup." Normally it just breezes through startup, this time it got hung up for some reason. I had my wireless keyboard/mouse plugged into the normal ports, and even after I tried moving stuff around, hitting buttons would not do anything. Finally, I had to plug in an old keyboard and hit F1 before it would work. Then as soon as windows starts, the wireless keyboard works flawlessly.

My questions are:
Anyone know what went wrong?
and
If It says no keyboard detected, how am I supposed to hit F1 if nothing works to fix it? What if I didn't have another keyboard? Isn't doing this counterintuitive?

I would tell you to use the force, but it's already been drafted, perhaps you should work out a trade.

sounds to me like your computer doesnt like wireless keyboards. have you always had this problem with it, or did it just suddenly develop? You might try unplugging the adaptor in the back, and plugging it back in.

It just developed. I've had this thing for about 3 or 4 months and no problems until today. At first I thought it was the battery, but the computer says teh battery level is good. Who knows, I just keep the other keyboard plugged in and laying it out of the way.

I weep for our institutions of higher learning these days.
