I grabbed this from the Tucker dynasty page as an example of a school recruiting a player for his atlethic prowess instead of a particular position that he plays. I can't count how many times in TCY I have lost out on a position completely and had a gapping hole in my backfield or secondary for a couple of years. I have tried changing some positions but, in general, haven't had great success with this. In real life teams will often grab a couple of "athletes" and plug them in where they are needed to complete the recruiting process. I think something like this would be a great addition to TCY2.

I emailed that to Jim, but that was about a week before he released FOF2004. He never sent anything back, but I think he may have been busy...

Agreed. Jimmy Coleman was also recruited as an "athlete," and is signing tomorrow morning with Tulane not sure what position he'll play when he gets there.

I think an athlete position, or even more advanced recruiting should be in the next version of TCY. Most HS athletes play both ways, and while some standout as being a standout on one side of the ball, there are others who really don't know where they are gonna play until they get into school. I mean there's basically 5 main groups of players: QBs, RB/LB, WR/DB, OL/DT, TE/DE.

To carry this idea on a bit, I'd like to see a deeper recruit evaluation process (in addition to spring drills & game) in which a player can be assigned a position based on an initial assessment by the coaching staff.

I'd also like to see recruits walk on at their "childhood favorite" university from time to time even if they have scholarship offers from other schools. Happens every year.

edit - Assuming the school contacted the kid, of course. Maybe even require bringing him in for a visit.

It would be nice if players had a "desired position" like Mr. McDowell does. Then you could promise them that role. You could then break that "promise", and maybe make the player mad enough to leave your schools... The possibilities are endless.

I have done this in TCY. I find RBs are the best to get away with it. Find a guy who is around 6'0" weighing 215-225 who isn't a top rated RB, but might be in the 500-750 nationwide scale and you'd be amazed what you can do with position changes. I once took a guy like that and was stunned to see him with QB potential ratings in the 70's. The guy made an all conference QB. I've even gotten All-American LBs this way.
