FBCB Cambpell Fighting Camels - take 2
I'm starting a new game with Campbell, Im' not going to coach every game though, I'll never get anywhere w/ my limited available play time that way.
I use a 0-100 rating, human coaches are NOT allowed to be fired(I am more interested in taking this team all the way up through good and bad, I don't want to switch teams, and I want to try out the hardest coach setting and that may be asking a lot). There is no gay play-in game to the NCAA tournament, but there IS limited conference movement. Conference prestige does not get updated. I begin on the most difficult level, I get 100 points to spend: Code:
I begin with no staff. We have a total team budget of $227,500, and its recommended that we put $141,050 towards coaching. Here's what I end up with: Recruiting Clyde Comer - Age 31 - 35 Recruiting - $30,000/yr Scouting John Zink - Age 26 - 37 Scouting - $50,000/yr Assistant Drew Wallace - Age 35 - Salary $50,000/yr Scheduling Round We look to play the easiest schedule possible. We get the easiest possible schedule imaginable. It's all in home-and-home's too. We fill the schedule the first time through: Code:
And it's on to July, when the recruiting period begins. |

Here's the roster going into the season:
Code:
Mr. Nigg from Germany really stands out. I wonder how he gets along with his teammates from Clinton, Hays, Shallote, Smithfield, Elizabethtown and Rocky Mount, NC? Looking purely at class, I need big men on the recruiting trail this year, a SG wouldn't hurt either. I have no offensive studs. The big men are all in their 40s on the inside, Michael Adams, a senior SG is probably my best overall scorer... I'd rather not see anyone shoot the 3. Lamar Perry is a solid post defender, PF James Browder is even better, an 81 post defense. It looks like I'm better on defense than I am on offense. I see painfully little potential. I take a look at the recruiting list. There are 7 guys who have a very high interest in Campbell. All are 1 star guys. Lots of players w/ High interest, including 6 2 star guys. There is a player from France, and a player from Germany, and a guy from Russia who like Campbell a lot. This just doesn't look like a school to be going international though, we don't exactly have the budget for it. I evaluate everyone that I can in the first month, 14 players. In AugustI take a closer look. The 3 star guys look just a little out of reach, but I can take a shot at one of them, the ones I looked at are close to home. In September I actually have a shot at the 3 star PG I am looking at. Not a need position right now but I have to just get talent on the team, no committments yet but I look like i'm making some headway. OCTOBER: I'm competing with Louisville and Winthrop for my 3 star man, Jarvis Long... I want him and I go hard after him still. My 1 star guys aren't talking to anyone else but me so I hope they'll come play in Buies Creek without much nudging(or spending) Next: On to the season! |

Recruiting I lose out on my 3 star man. Jarvis Long would rather sit on the bench in Louisville than star for Campbell. I can't say I'm suprised though. Games Albany beats us by 14 in a game we were apparently outclassed in, we come back to crush Arkansas-Pine Bluff at home, no one had more than 3 assists, maybe it is good that we're going after some guards. Bussard, our backup PF, had 13 boards, and our center lamar perry had 9, very nice. We close out the month on the road in Binghamton, losing by 8, getting outrebounded by 18, ouch. The game went to overtime, with Lamar Perry coming up big again, 11 points, 10 boards. Code:

Recruiting We get our first two recruits! Thomas Hardy isn't very special at all. He was an easy, cheap guy to land. He can play some defense for us and that's going to be about it. Code:
Donald Dufour, on the other hand, will likely end up being our star recruit of the season. He's a 2 star guy, with some very good potential numbers. If he can develop for us a little bit he could be a solid contributor. Code:
We lose another 3 star guy we were stabbing at, this one to Duke... ok so 3 star guys are out of our league, huh? I look at another 3 star guy, and I have a second 1 star guy I am almost certain to land, but I throw some money into wooing him anyway, he is better than Hardy so he's not a guarentee. I make some lineup changes, based mainly on +/- numbers and turnover tendencies... On December 6th we get a big conferenc win over Jacksonville, our first win in conference, on the road. It's 56-50, and we held them to 30% shooting, and I am pleased. We follow it up with a win against winless Florida Atlantic. Our goal for the year, I may have failed to mention, is to avoid last place. These early conference wins are very big b/c of that. We blow a bad game, 57-56, to winless Jacksonville State, we led by 8 at the half and totally fell apart. A 3 pointer with 3 seconds to go turned us from winner to heartbreak losers... Code:
There are a lot of terrible teams here, so avoiding last place seems like a very reasonable goal: Code:

We got nowhere recruiting this month, and the guys we've got contacts with are really bad, so we go out contacting new blood, no scholarship offers are made(we still have 2 outstanding).
We open January horribly, a 1 point loss vs 2-10 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi... and it's all downhill from there... January 25th, we lose to 2-15 Cornell... by 22. a loss on January 31st closes out the worst month imaginable... see below. Code:

Holy crap... we'll look to make a lot of changes next month. |

We lose PF Jarrod Bussard for 51 days on January 25th, and drastically change around the rotation. I'm kind of trying to fly through this year until I get some of my own recruits in here...
We open February with a 53-50 win at Belmont, and all I can say is.. FINALLY. James Browder, my opening day PF, gets another shot with Broussard hurt and pulls down 9 boards for us. We follow it up with a 78-75 win over last place Florida Atlantic. Michael Adams pours in 24 points and we shoot 60% as a team, this win probably secures our non-last place finish. After those wins we go quite cold, but playing 20 game winner Ga State twice had a big hand in that... Our regular season is now over: Code:

We get our final two committments at the beginning of March.
SG Godelieve Ghuesquiere is a poor shoorter, but has some potential handling the ball and defending the perimeter. He has an ok 3 point shot as well. Code:
Berry Clayton comes in with average skills, but above average potential all the way around. We hope he can develop his jump shot and his defense a bit to become a starter for us at the small forward slot after a redshirt year. Code:
Only the top 8 qualify for the Atlantic Sun tournament, and we finished 9th, so we sit out. Here are our stats on the year: Code:
We are losing Adams and Perry, but luckily we have Browder for one more year. In postseason Play, Troy State is given a 7 seed in the NIT, while Samford earns a respectable 11 seed in the NCAA tournament. Georgia State is given an immense amount of respect, earning a 1 seed in the NIT. Georgia State and Troy State both lose their opening games in the NIT. Samford falls 77-72 to Temple, ending the Atlantic Sun season. The NCAA tournament holds very true to form, 3 #1s and a #4 in the final four. 1 seed Stanford beats 1 seed and #1 nationally Kentucky, and 4 seed Oklahoma upsets 1 seed/#2 nationally Texas. Stanford beats Oklahoma 84-82 to win the national title. All of my seniors are proejcted to go undrafted. I do have some good news though, SF Anibal Martinez was named to the all conference freshman team. Martinez was 2nd on the team in scoring at 9 ppg. That's really a sad thing though, his numbers just aren't great. On to 2004-05! |

2004-05 Season
Our recruiting class was ranked #206 in the nation... that gives us something to build on. Our assistant coach leaves, and I need to find a new one. I end up with a disappointment, Davis Thibeault, Offense 10, Defense 54. With coaches like this, 54 is about all we can give up per game to win I fear. Here's the numbers to start the season: Code:
Code:
Nice RPI. July 2004 Its time to go on the recruiting trail, we've got 4 scholarships to fill. We are going to be graduating a PG, C, PF, and SG. The PF, James Browder, is a sure starter. All four of our seniors will see some playing time though so I have to get the most out of my recruits this year. I need to target big men again this year, my team is left very small after the recruiting last year. I evaluate all the people whose interest is very high, and then all the 2 and 3 star guys w/ high interest. I have some more money in the budget to recruit this year, thanks to the cheaper coaching staff. August 2004 My prize target is 3 star PF Daniel McAlpine. His interest is high, and I am going to offer him everything I can to try to lure him to Buies Creek. I go after the other 2 and 3 star targets of mine as well, but I dont' expect much success. September 2004 My two 3 star targets have very high interest. I spent my entire recruting budget on them... landing either of these guys would be quite a coup for such a small town team. Since all my games I scheduled last year were home/home I have no scheduling to worry about. October 2004 PF McAlpine is considering Campbell and Furman. He is a great rebounder(55/30 ORB/DRB with B/A potential, has a 45 Post D, and 31 inside... an ok scorer who I'd love tohave on the court at all times it looks like) SG Clinton Trusty is considering Campbell, South Alabama, and winthrop. He sports a 56 jumpshot w/ A potential, and B potential perimeter D. |

We've got something to look forward to now! First, the small news. I went after a center, and he signed very quickly: Code:
He won't be a big scorer but he looks like a great rebounder, and his inside scoring could definitely be worse. And finally, the big boys: Code:
McAlpine looks like he has above average skills all the way around for a 1 prestige conference competition... I love his defense and rebounding potentials, and he looks like he could score a little bit for us. Code:
in trusty we have our first potential scorer. I worry about his hands, I sure do. But his speed, shooting ability and perimemter defense potential is just too much to pass up. Trusty is #224 overall, McAlpine #305 overall. Ok, time to look at the players: Code:
Code:
Melger and Browder are solid inside players on offense, and I will rely on them a lot. Dufour is scary from 3, and Gonzalez can shoot some too. Code:
Bowder and Kujawa are my best defenders. I am not strong outside of them. The home and home scheduling screwed me a little it looks like. I have not a single game in November. |

Thanks to the automatic scheduling from the home/home's, my first game isn't until December 1st, so I auto-sim through all of November.
I go and eval all the 3 star talent left that isn't very low interest in me... I've landed two solid recruits and have a bunch of 1 star guys beating down my door, I can take my time with some of them and shoot for the stars. December 2004 We lose our opener at Mercer, 64-51. SG Donald Dufour leads us with 15 points, and Anibal Martinez puts up 10. Our center, Gerret Melgar, doesn't score in 32 minutes, and only pulls down 2 boards. Scary. Our next game is against Jacksonville. We lead by as many as 7 in the first half but Jacksonville closes in on us in the 2nd. We pull ahead as far as 55-50 with 10 minutes left but they come right back. With 2 minutes left it is 65-62 Campbell, but they score the last 4 points, Browder misses a jumper as time expires, and we lose 66-65. Melgar leads the team in points and boards, 15/10. Much better than game 1. We dont really play a close game again for awhile, dropping to a horrid 0-8 before finally beating Cornell, 69-64 at home on December 27th. Donald Dufour scores 15, Melger grabs 9 boards, and we finally have a win. This is going to be a terrible season. A winning streak starst with a 56-46 win over Chicago State, and we shoot 50% from the field for the first time this year. Here's the damage: Code:

I make some small changes on the bench, but don't change anything about the starters going into January. Piercy is a good shooter and will get a little more playing time.
January 2005 One of the remaining 3 star guys that I eval'd has an average interst in me, and he doesn't suck, I offer him my final scholarship and push hard for him. I pick two other 3 star guys and go and visit them too. Our winning streak ends with a 26 point loss vs Mercer. A 17 point loss to Samford follows it up and we are 0-8 in confeernce play. Our best game so far comes on January 12th, we beat Florida Atlantic by 14, 75-61. We shoot 54% and put 3 guys in double figures. Joseph Kujawa goes 7-8 from the floor in 15 minutes off the bench, for 15 points in the big win. Melgar puts up 13 points and 7 boards. I check out Kujawa to make sure he shouldn't be starting, and he shouldn't. 30% shooting on the year. Even after going 7-8. We follow that win up with a 56-51 road win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Too bad Melgar is a Senior. 9.4 points/6 boards a game is solid from him. We drop an expected game against Stetson, before beating Binghamton, the reason its worth mentioning? James Browder gives us 21 points and 11 rebounds on the game! We only shoot 40% from the field to their 49%, but we go 21-29 from the line, they go 4-8... We choke on the road at Florida Atlantic. They blow us out, 72-56. That might have been our best chance to get out of the cellar in this conference. Here's the January numbers: Code:
Code:
Code:
We play Jacksonville State twice in a row, on 2/23 and 2/26, a sweep of them may be enough to get us out of last place in the Atlantic Sun. |

We get our final recruit! Another 3 star signing! Welcome Romeo Eberly, a point guard, to the fighting camels. Code:
the potential in handling is nice to see, though the passing skills leave some to be desired. We've gotten 3 top 350 recruits this year though, muuuch better than last year. We almost pull a major upset, losing to 17-3 Georgia State on the road, 74-72! Anibal Martinez scores 23, going 9-12 from the field, we shoot 54% from the field, and lose b/c we allow Ga State to take 46 free throws... We led by 14 at the half, and led the entire first half. Ga State erased that 14 point lead in the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half though and they led by 4 with 15 seconds to go. We sunk a 3 but couldn't do it fast enough or get the ball back. I did make a change to make Anibal Martinez a go-to guy, lets see if that change changes our fortunes the rest of the month... A 14 point loss in our next game vs Stetson indicates that the Ga State game may have been a fluke. Fast forwarding to the Jacksonville State games, we see that they have won a game or three, and we are toast. The games mean nothing, we're going to finish last in the conference no matter what. Our first win over them does ssecure their 20th loss though, which is nice. They beat us in our building though, and we finish the year with 2 conference wins. Our quest for a 10 win season fails as we fall by 2 to Albany on March 2nd. It's over. And it's sad. Code:

Samford, Troy State, and Georgia State are really dominating this conference... this season, Troy State chokes vs #4 Stetson in the Atlantic Sun semis. Samford gets by Ga State in the semis and then beats Stetson to earn an NCAA bid.
NCAA Tournament: Troy State earns an at-large bit with its 25-5 record! They will face New Mexico State, Troy State is a 9 seed. Samford is the #10 seed in the east, they'll play #7 UCLA. Georgia State's 23-7 isn't even enough for the NIT. Samford is an embarrassment, going down 120-48 to UCLA.. OUCH. Troy State, on the other hand, blows out New Mexico State 81-53! Their reward is a agme against #5 nationally Oklahoma State, they lose 84-59 and end the Atlantic Sun season. The final four pits 3 #1 seeds and a #2... 2 seed indiana upsets #1 nationally Miami, and Cincinnati beats Florida. Indiana beats Cincinnati 77-71 to win the national title! |

We graduate 4 players. None are projected to go in the NBA Draft, suprise suprise. Garret Melgar played in every game for 2 years, and started every game his senior season. Code:
His -1.57 +/- rating was easily one of the best on the team. James Browder started every game as a senior, and half his games as a junior, he was a very good rebounder and defender. His -1.46 WAS the best on the team this year for +/- ratings: Code:
Joseph Kujawa was a backup, he played in every game but didn't get too many minutes. Code:
Finally, James Funke, who missed only 1 game, but never started. Code:

2005-06 Season
FBCB News rated our recruiting class the #103 class in the nation! Illinois was #1. That's waaaaaay up from #206 last year. Code:
We were technically "better" last year, but, we finished last in the conference, as a result the board isn't delighted with us anymore, just satisfied. We don't lose any coaches, so I keep who I've got. I setup our schedule, this time onl ysetting up 5 home and home series... I schedule a bunch of cupcakes, no point in posting the schedule. If they have a prestige above 10, they must be in the same conference as me. July 2005 We only have two scholarships to offer this year. I go ahead and take my first look at the team: Code:
We graduate a PF and two point guards. Code:
We are VERY weak inside. Trusty and Gonzalez and Eberly can shoot the jumper which is ncie, and Ghuesquiere and Dufour and Piercy can shoot the 3 a little bit. I'm not sure how we will try to score this year... lacking big men, we need jump shooters and we don't have them. We've got some guys that can handle the ball a bit at least. Code:
The defense isn't strong at all either. Blech. I have 6 freshmen, and only 2 scholarships, so red-shirting is a requirement this year. Eberly is an easy choice, since I have Gonzalez who looks like my starting PG, and I will probably redshirt McAlpine too. I may well also Redshirt Trusty, he can contribute now but my team will suck this year, I may want to get some improvement out of him first. with just 2 guys to bring in, I go ahead and concentrate on big men to even things out. A couple of 2 star guys have a lot of interest in Campbell, I scout them out, and then I hit the 3 star guys with average interest, hoping some of them will look my way. August 2005 A bunch of the 3 star guys still have an average interest after initla contacts have gone out... I sift through them looking for two guys I think I can land. September 2005 I have a good shot at a 3 star center, Henry Stanfill has shot up to very high interest. Stanfill has a 53 inside game, with only D potential, he has good hands, and is a very good rebounder. His defense needs work and he is a horrible passer... a good player for me though if I can land him. My other 3 star target is yet another PG, Charles Fortunato. 81 jumper, 41 3 pointer, hands are 46, passing only 29(he'd probably play SG), A potential on the glass and perimeter D... solid, and very good so he may be a long shot. I try to lock him up early though before the top teams fall down to him after losign their 5 star guys. October 2005 Both of my guys are still on the board and I hit them hard. I have a #3 man in mind if I lose either one, and I am visiting him regularly also. |

We've landed our first man! And really outside of the passing issues I think he has potential to be very good for us. Code:
We open the season on November 15th, at 0 prestige Savannah State. We get off to a much better start, getting our first win well over a month sooner this year! In the opener, Donald Dufour scores 25 points for us, Anibal Martinez 12, and PG Simon Gonzalez 11... looks like a large majority of our poitns will come from the perimeter. Game #2 is a bit of a letdown, a 95-50 loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Ow. On November 27th, we beat Army in our home opener, 60-56. Anibal Martinez puts up 22, and Dufour 15, he's going to break records for us this year. On the last day of the month we open the conference season with a disappointing 3 point loss at home to winless Jacksonville State. Still it is a better start this year... Code:
Code:
Code:
Dufour is going to establish a career scoring record early on in this dynasty that may be hard to break if he keeps this up(as my good recruits come in, he may not keep it up of course). He and Anibal Martinez are the career scoring leaders, both still on the team. Dufour is just a sophomore. Dufour scored the current team record of 333 points in a season last year. He has over 100 in the first 5 games this year. |

My other big recruit has snubbed Campbell for St Louis. My #3 option got snapped up too soon, and I am left with no one that i've really been recruiting very hard. One of my guys is interested still though! I am looking at a very good shooting PG from Mt Airy, NC. NC State has offered him a scholly, but I am #2 behind them on the list, so I throw my scholarship offer his way and will see what happens. We suffer a heartbreaking 3 point loss on the road to Florida Atlantic. We live by Dufour's jumper, we die by it. 4-21 from the field... Dufour goes 1-11 in our next game, a bad loss to non-conference Binghamton on the road. We recover to beat William and Mary and end our 4 game skid, back to 4-4 overall. Two bad road losses follow and we're struggling once again. We have to play Ga State twice in a row, they destroy us by 20 at their place, and pull out a 5 point win at ours... We lose our Starting Center, Joseph Menard, for 45 days in the second Ga State game. Menard was averaging 7 boards a game for us and was our only passable big man... that hurts a bit. We struggle mightily without a center and fall apart the rest of the month. Code:
What a tailspin. Some of those teams are just bad bad bad. Code:
Code:
Dufour will break the single season team scoring record with 80 more points. That he is leading the team in rebounds as well frightens me. |

My #1 recruit left on the board failed to qualify academically. That throws quite a wrench into my plans, I'd like to get a second quality player this season... with so few graduating I may be wiling to leave that scholarship out on the table if I can't fill the spot with someone I really want. We score 39 against Jacksonville on January 4th. Dufour scores 19 of those, Martinez 8. Sad I have two centers on my roster. Both are hurt now. The backup guy is only out 10 days though. January 9th, we get a big win, 67-65 over Stetson, our first confrence victory and snapping an 8 game losing streak overall! My 3 small guys, Dufour, Martinez, and Gonzalez account for 42 of our points, and center Thomas Hardy pulls down 11 boards at 70% health. Our struggles continue following the win... January 21st, our second win of the season in the Atlantic Sun. 73-69 on the road at Jacksonville State. Anibal Martinez puts up 28 points, Dufour 13, Gonzalez 12 and 9 assists. Its a good win for us, a much needed one. The win is followed up with a 33 point loss at Mercer, and then a 15 point loss at home vs the very beatable Florida Atlantic. and thus ends another sad month in the annals of Campbell basketball. Code:
I see 4 road games in my last 5 games in February. Pushing my way out of last place seems unlikely. Code:
Code:
Dufour has now set the single season scorig record for the team. Martinez will finish have the 2nd best season ever(yeah I know it's o nly been 3 years). |

The quest for next to last finishes: A disappointing loss at Samford, 66-58, despite good shooting. Next up, a huge win at Stetson! 72-59! Our recovered Center Joseph Menard puts up a career high 17 points in the win, he also grabs 6 boards. Martinez is your player of the game with a perfect day, 5-5 from the floor and 2-2 from the line. This win sets up the battle for next to last. We host Central Florida, both of us are 3-12 in the conference. The winner likely finishes in 9th place! Central Florida 70, Campbell 64. Dufour and Martinez both foul out, leaving me with no scoring options at the end of the game. We do win our last game, on the road, at Belmont 74-66. Dufour puts up 27 points, Martinez 19. PG Simon Gonzalez gives us 11 assists, and my two centers combine for 15 boards. I'm pretty sure we still qualify as last place... that home loss to central florida sucked! We lost 20, ouch! I think my good recruiting classes should start to benefit me next season though... I hope! Code:

I don't get much scoring from my centers, but Hardy and Menard both showed some serious potential as great rebounders. |

Troy State is the only top flight team in the conference this year... no more multiple 23+ game winners... and Troy State breezes through the conference tourney.
Troy State is a 12 seed, and will face BYU in the first round of the NCAAs. Georgia State earns a 9 seed in the NIT this year, they went 19-11. Unfortunately, they lose to Valpo 86-84 in their first game. Troy State pulls the upset for the 2nd year in a row, they beat BYU 54-52! The sweet 16 is still just a dream though, 4 seed Arkansas drops Troy state 69-46. The final four pits 1 seed Duke vs 3 seed Arizona, and 1 seed Maryland vs 5 seed Tulsa(go ACC). arizona upsets Duke, but Maryland blows out Tulsa. Arizona beats up on Maryland and the wildcats win the national title! Donald Dufour is the 2nd team All-Atlantic Sun SG, my team's first all-anything honor. |

Piercy could shoot the 3, but didn't get the chance to do it much. Code:
Nothing much to say about Zachary Peres either. Code:
In the 2005-06 season, Donald Dufour's 446 points was a single season record. Anibal Martinez's 369 was 2nd ever. Simon Gonzalez's 124 assists is the current mark. Dufour stole the ball 35 times, another single season record. Thomas Hardy and Berry Clayton each blocked 16 shots. I know its silly to look at that stuff 3 years in, no one has even played a full 4 season career yet, but I am trying to get in the habit, and I like those kinds of stats ![]() |

2006-07 Season Kickoff
Our recruiting class is #144th in the nation. Not bad for a 1 player class. The board remains satisfied with us, and our goal remains the same. Don't finish last. We've failed 2 of the first 3 years. Code:
Last year was horrid, but, we scheduled very very weakly, so the RPI is apparent and expected. Our assistants again remain, and I again keep them all. Time for the preseson roster look, before recruiting gets going. Code:
Stanfill is possibly the best player on the team right now, so he's going to be out there on the court from day 1. Code:
With Stanfill, I have an inside game. With Trusty and Eberly, and of course Dufour and Martinez, I might have a jump shot here and there. This is definitely my best team yet. Code:
The defense isn't as pretty. McAlpine will probably play a lot just b/c of his post prescence as a defender. Hardy will be in there a lot as a PF/C also. I accept a few schedule requests from other teams(a first... people want to play me??) AND, a training facility upgrade request has been APPROVED. Lets see that Facility rating of 10 go up next year! |

We have 4 scholarships available this year.
We graduate 3 small forwards, and a SG. Also, there's just one PF on the roster. this year, the target should be forwards, and little else. 1 non-forward might be acceptable, but that is it. In July and August I make my moves on the usual 3 star guys that I hope I can snatch away before the big schools come calling. September gets me 2 campus visits and a clear 4 recruits that I want to land. October gives me my first committment: Coudl I have a major scoring threat down inside? Or does the bad jumper negate it? I start the year with my freshman center Stanfill as my goto guy. Dufour and Martinez are on the list of Key Players also. Opening day is a sad 56-51 loss to Norfolk State at home. Stanfill shoots only 4-12 in scoring 10 points. Dufour is 2-9, 9 points. We then get crushed at Wake Forest, that's no problem. We end the month with a conference game, we're at Jacksonville. And we lose 77-66... Stanfill gives us 9 points, McAlpine 8 points/8 boards... Dufour goes 4-17 in the loss, killing us. GOAL: Win a game in December! Code:

We've gotten two more committments to fill out a very solid recruiting class! We have one more spot to fill. Our first recruit looks like a very solid overall player, he isn't the best scoring threat I've seen but he has an ok jumper and good 3 point shot. He can handle the ball, pass, rebound, and defend acceptably. Code:
Julius McDonnell could develop into a better shooter, but his all around skills aren't as good. I do really like seeing his defense though. Code:
All three of my recruits so far are top 300, a very good class coming in for us, with 1 spot to go. I want a PF, and only a PF. On to the losing! Actually, we win! Our first game of the year, we beat Jacksonville State 59-52 on the road! Dufour scores 16, Menard 10 off the bench. Freshman star Stanfill scores 7 and pulls down 10 boards. We win our second straight, crushing Gardner Webb, again on the road. 81-60. Dufour scoers 21, and all 5 starters are in double figures. PG Eberly scores 10, pulls down 7 boards and gets 6 assists. The 81 points is a new team record. We tie that 81 point record in our next game, crushing Savannah State 81-54. Martinez puts up 26, Dufour 22, Stanfill an 11/10 double double. We keep on winning, beating Samford 62-57, and we are now 2-1 in conference play, I think the first time we have ever had a winning record in conference play! Dufour goes 12-12 from the line and scores 23. Stanfill gives us 8 points and 9 boards in only 19 minutes before fouling out. A new scoring record is set! Campbell 83, William and Mary 58. Dufour 26, Martinez 23, Eberly 11, Stanfill 9. PF McAlpine, who hasn't been discussed much b/c he isn't an offensive threat, pulled down a big 14 rebounds today also. Mercer ends our 5 game winning streak on December 20th in a bad way, 87-61. We actually shot 49%, usually good enough for a win, but Mercer shot 55% and out-rebounded us by 16. We get back on the winning side of things against NC A&T, Stanfill scores 18 and pulls down 13 boards. This was by far my best month as a basketball coach, and it looks like the recruits we've brought in are starting to turn the tide our way, hopefully for the long term. Code:
Woohoo, look at those W's! Code:
Code:
Stanfill and McAlpine are looking solid as big men, and both of them are just freshmen. Eberly's A/T ratio isn't good at all, but again, as a freshman, I hope that can improve. |

Recruiting is going nowhere, but we still have picked up 3 great recruits so I am not terribly concerned if we leave our fourth scholly on the table. I'm pushing for a few PF's though. We get a big win against Mercer, 72-65 at home, and are establishing ourselves as a team that can actually win in this conference. We trail by 18 in the first half against Samford, and come roaring back, but still fall by 1 point, 66-65, to remain .500 in conference. Just when we start playing consistant ball, we lose by 17 to 3-15 Central Florida. They beat us 78-60 to sweep us and put a big damper in our spirits. Two horrid blowouts finsih off the month. Ouch. Code:
Those last two losses sting... Code:
Code:
The only change I made this month is to make SG Trusty my 6th man(up from 7th) and increase his PT, he has been playing very well in a limited backup role. |

We give up on our last scholarship. There's nothing left out there, it's all nonq-qualifiers. We get back on track, beating Jacksonville State 74-65. Dufour sets a school record with 32 points. Our goal at this point is to finish 8th or better to make it into the conference tournament. We make a step towards that goal in our best game ever. Campbell 87, Fla Atlantic 55. Stanfill scores 24 and grabs 12 boards, Martinez scores 22. Eberly scored 10 and got 7 assits. We blow it though, losing at Fla Atlantic, and we appear doomed to finish next to last again. But! Our biggest win ever? Best win? Campbell 78 - Georgia State 57. Ga State isn't the powerhouse in the conference any more but they are the 3rd best team still. With two games to go we're tied for 8th. We're in a 4 way tie for 6th-9th going into our last conference game. We lose it but still finish 8th! Code:
Code:
Code:
Stanfill, McAlpine, Eberly and Trusty are freshmen. Dufour is a junior. Martinez is our only major loss this year. |

I do a live sim of our first conference tournament game, but I'm not coaching.
So this is what shit looks like? It's 23-7 with 10 minutes left in the first half. We fall 77-45. Georgia State beats Troy State to win the Atlantic Sun conference. Georgia State earns a 14 seed in the NCAA Tourney. They'll play Cincinnati. Cincinnati wins it by 11. the final four is a bit different this year, the seeds have mainly held up so far but not this year. 8 seed Iowa State plays 5 seed Kentucky 7 seed BYU plays 2 seed Maryland. Iowa State and BYU meet in the finals, and the Stormin Mormons... err I mean the cougars win the national title! BYU 58, Iowa State 51. Senior recap and next year to come later, we're still scheduling nothing but cupcakes but we are making vast improvements as a team. I expect us to finish within the top half of the Atlantic Sun within the next two years. |

These are our first full four year players. One of them is a star on our team: Code:
His +/- of 1.52 is the best ever for a Fighting Camel in a single season! His 1253 points is currently the career best at Campbell but Dufour will certainly top that next year. The rest of our seniors don't deserve much mention: Code:
Donald Dufour is named to 2nd team All-Conference. PF Daniel McAlpine is freshman all-conference. C Henry Stanfill is Freshman All-conference. None of our players are going to be drafted. Our recruiting class is ranked #97 nationally, our first time cracking the top 100! When I return, it'll be time for scheduling and 2007-08! |

I'm following along, Radii.
My younger brother was once the student body president of Campbell. They made it to the NCAA tourney once, I think, and got demolished by Duke in the first round. |

Thanks for reading!
Yeah, They did go and lose to Duke in the 1st round, I still lived in North Carolina when that happened, it was a pretty big story.I like using Campbell because they are a local low prestige team near my home town, and I pick them over NC A&T and whoever else in the area because I went to Campbell's basketball camp in the 7th and 8th grades. |

I am officially an idiot. As I was closing the game, I remembered that I wanted to look at the career records, so I quickly clikced "no" to the question at the end when you close the game... unfortunately, that question isn't "are you sure you want to quit" ... It's, "Save before exiting??"
So all that just happened from December on is Nullified. I don't think it's a big deal though, as my recruits that I landed are all still there. I just sim through the end of April and will jump on to next season. It's too early in this career and I'm still building too much, so it won't hurt badly. |

As I sit here with an ENTIRE night to myself, I am torn. Poker or FBCB? Poker? FBCB? I can't leave a dynasty after a screwed up year like that. FBCB IT IS.
The season I autosimmed was very poor compared to the one I played. 9-19. 5-13 in confernce. So this year is to be the breakout year instead(where breakout = .500!) Code:
Our recruiting class is ranked 97th in the country. Another solid ranking for a program of our presitge(which, by the way, has fallen from 11 to 10). My training facilities have jumped from 11 to 19 thanks to the improvements made last year. I request more training upgrades, and we'll see how that goes. My training facility is now 8th out of 10 in the conference. I fire my old assistant, who had a 50'ish rating in defense but only 5'ish in offense, and I hire a new guy, John Dendy, Offense 50, Defense 25. More well rounded and better overall, hopefully that helps too. My AD approves the request for training upgrades again! This has got to help us out a ton. 2007-08 Recruiting Preview I won't go over the individual player ratings until after training camp. but I will assess our general needs. We have two available scholarships this year. Donald Dufour will be graduating this year. If he can avoid injury he will have started every game in my history by the end of the year. I have 3 other SG though and one of them is soph Clinton Trusty who is ready to star. Another is a freshman I intend to redshirt who isn't bad either, so SG isn't a huge need. I also lose C Thomas Hardy. He's had minimal impact, I will have two centers behind him, so this isn't a major need either. Really after this year I will be pretty balanced... To go for perfect balance I could get a C and a PF. I would like one of the two and after that I'll just go for the best talent I can attract. I also change auto-save to BI WEEKY (duh. Go me). I get one early committment. There were 3 star centers who I might have had a shot at, but this guy has a better combination of inside game and defense than the 3 star guys. One of the centers I was going for has signed elsewhere. |

Code:
Code:
I have multiple threats this yaer... Chapple couild be a great small forward for me, Stanfill, McAlpine, Dufour and Eberly all return improved also. Code:
Stanfill, McAlpine, Chapple, Dufour, and Eberly will be my starting 5. Clinton Trusty will be my 6th man and will see a lot of time, b/c Chapple's stamina is rated 13. We open up in a very fast paced offense, and hope to go .500 or better this year, I think this is when my top 100 recruiting classes should really start to benefit me! |

November 2007
We open the season with a 76-64 win over Texas Southern. We turn it over too often but other than that we dominate them. Demetrius Chappel scores 13 in his first college game, and Clinton Trusty scores 12 off the bench. Stanfill gives us 9 poitns/9 boards. time to copy a better format totally. Hope Marmel doesn't mind. Code:
November 27th, 2007 Campbell(2-0) at St Marys (0-1) St Mary's leads the entire game, and totally puts us to shame. As a team we shoot 38%, 18% from 3. Dufour gives us a great game with 23 points, and Stanfill nears a double double, but we fall apart after that. Code:
And that ends November. Code:
Code:
Code:
In general, I like what I see, Stanfill is playing great ,and I might bump up his playing time(his stamina is in the high 40s only). Menard is a rebounding machine though so I am ok with Stanfill's PT if he gets tired after any more... I also love Trusty being able to average 10 off the bench. Dufour and Chapple are off to great starts shooting so I won't be changing that any time soon... I actually feel like I have a very solid 7 man rotation and can dip to 8 or 9 guys when needed. That's a first. |

December 2007
Another center bites the dust, we have a two star guy who isn't bad but isn't great that we might end up settling on. December 1st, 2007 Gardner Webb (1-4) at Campbell (2-1) One of the worst teams in the nation, we expect an easy win here. It isn't easy, but we do get it. 4 players in double figures for a 76-72 win. We are struggling big time from 3 though. Code:
After this game I make two changes. I lower our 3P usage from 6 to 3, and up Stanfill's PT from 5 to 6. December 5th, 2007 Campbell (3-1) at Samford(2-1) Our first conference game. It's a shootout. Samford wins it though, 93-85. Amazing, we shot better from 3(40%), shot awesome from 2(60%), but, we committed 27 fouls and turned it over 7 times more than they did. Samford made 15 more FTs than us while beating us by 8. Code:
December 12th, 2007 Campbell(3-2) at Stetson(2-2) Another conference road game, another loss. Stetson tops us by 14, 78-64. 38% shooting will do that to you. 4 guys in double figures, but 4-15 from Dufour and 4-12 from Trusty just won't cut it. Code:
December 14th, 2007 Campbell (3-3) at Eastern Washington(0-4) We drop another close game here. We shoot 39% as a team, and even though we go 9-18 from 3, we just can't pull it off. FTs are a bit of a problem today, 15-31... that's the game right there. We are just falling apart in one area a night, and it's enough, we need to put together more consistant games. Code:
December 19th, 2007 Campbell(3-4) at College of Charleston(5-1) A game we fully expect to lose, and our 4th road game in a row. We do lose it, a close one again, 83-77. Anyone else get the feeling we'd be winning these closer contests at home? 4 guys in double figures, 2 more put up 9 points. We launch 25 3s tongiht, but make 12 of them... I still don't like seeing us shoot that many, but I think in this case it was part of the comeback. Code:
December 21st, 2007 Maryland-East Shore(2-6) at Campbell (3-5) Here's one we win, right? UGH. No. 76-69. This team is slumping bad. Code:
December 26th, 2007 Campbell(3-6) at Belmont(4-6) It's the battle for last in the Atlantic 10. It's a tough battle too. Both teams are cold, they outrebound us but we shoot a bit better. It was 30-20 Camels at the half, and 61-59 Camels at the final buzzer. Looking at the play by play, we were down 7 with 7 minutes to go and Donald Dufour took over, scoring 8 straight points. Code:
December 29th, 2007 Mercer(6-5) at Campbell(4-6) Mercer is currently at the top of the Atlantic Sun. And they show us why, putting 5 players in double figures, overcoming a 10 point halftime deficit, and beating us by 7. We led 47-37 at the half and collapsed. There was simply no defense today, we shot 53% and they shot 51%... but we turned it over 24 times and committed 30(yes, 30) fouls. That's the difference. Dufour kept us in it with 22. Code:
December 31st, 2007 Campbell(4-7) at Colorado(7-2) One of the toughest games we scheduled this year... Colorado destroys us to end the month. Code:
Code:
Code:
Code:
Daniel McAlpine is suspended for a month for academic reasons... Joseph Menard will start at PF for us for the month. |

We get both our recruits. One is a bit disappointing though. Code:
Beauregard is a top 30 PG, a great steal for us I think. He has decent hands, good passing potential, and his Jumper and perimeter D look impressive. Code:
Well, he's tall! He is a lot like the guy he'll be replacing, Hardy... can't score much but he can rebound and is an ok defender. |

After quite a break to work on my RWBL team, I'm back... It's january, I'm done recruiting, and I'm 4-8, still looking for that elusive .500 mark(even though my goal is just to not be last place).
January 3rd, 2008 Campbell(4-8) at Portland(4-4) too many trips out west this year. Chappel and Dufour give us 17 points each but its not enough, we shoot 38% and lose bad. Code:
January 9th, 2008 Central Florida(3-7) at Campbell(4-9) I really expected to win this one... but hey, shoot 35%, allow 50%, and you lose. What a funk. Code:
I make sure Dufour has a 10 in playing time... I don't want him on the bench too much. I also make him our only go to guy. After that the rest of the guys are just too inconsistant, even the ones that are going to be big talents... January 12th, 2008 Campbell(4-10) at Florida Atlantic(5-8) Dufour fouls out in just 18 minutes of play and that kills us. Code:
January 14th, 2008 Campbell(4-11) at Troy State(4-10) Great. Dufour shoots 1-9. We shoot 36%, Troy State 56%... we get CRUSHED Code:
More changes. Slow the tempo. I thought a fast pace might be good since I don't have great ball handlers and limiting passing would be good... but its just not working, I slow it back down. January 16th, 2008 Jacksonville (7-7) at Campbell (4-12) We do get a big win in our first slowdown game! 60-54. Jacksonville shoots 21 times more than Campbell from the floor. They commit an absurd 32 fouls, and we win b/c we shot 49 free throws(yes 49). Amazingly we made 23... ouch. Dufour scored 15, 2-8 from the line. Code:
January 19th, 2008 Campbell(5-12) at Georgia State(11-6) Ga State is the dominant team in the conference. And we're on the road. It'll take our best to even hang in there... well, how does 54% from the field, 6-11 from 3, only 12 tournovers sound? 24 points from Dufour, 15 from Eberly, and we pull off the upset! Code:
Baaaad news. Demetrius Chapple leaves the game with a Ruptured Disc. He is out for 140 days. clinton Trusty gets his first stint as a starter, which will hopefully help him to be prepared next year after Dufour graduates. January 26th, 2008 Florida Atlantic(8-10) at Campbell(6-12) We keep winning, and avenge a loss earlier in the year to Fla Atlantic. They shoot 51% but we get to go to the line 39 times, and actually hit 66% this time around. That is where we won this one. Trusty shines in his first start, 22 points(13-17 from the line!) and 7 boards. Code:
January 30th, 2008 Stetson(11-7) at Campbell(7-12) Stetson is 3rd in the conference, and is 10-2 vs 200+ RPI teams(we are in that group), but, we continue to win, the strategy changes seem to really make a difference here. Also, clinton trusty may be a god. 25 points. Code:
That ends a very solid comeback month... our overall record isn't so great but we are now up to 5-6 in the conference and are actually in 8th place, just 1 game out of 5th. Code:

McAlpipne is back after serving his 1 month academic suspension. He is back as my starting PF. Menard is my 6th man. February 2nd, 2008 Jacksonville State(7-10) at Campbell(8-12) Our winning streak comes to a hard and abrupt end. Code:
February 6th, 2008 Samford(9-10) at Campbell(8-13) Samford is actually 3rd in the conference despite the 9-10 overall record... they beat us by 9, we didn't play horrible, just couldn't shoot well enough... dufour and trusty is a scary combo in the lineup though. Code:
February 9th, 2008 Troy state(9-12) at Campbell(8-14) These guys beat us by 40 last time, and they win by 28 this time... they've just got our number. We just turned it over waaaaay too much. Code:
February 11th, 2008 Campbell(8-15) at Jacksonville(11-11) We have to get out of this second losing streak here we're in... but, we cant today, 80-72 Jacksonville. We mainly lost this one at the FT line. Code:
February 13th, 2008 Georgia State(14-9) at Campbell (8-16) We try to complete the sweep of one of the top teams. trusty comes up big for me again, scoring 23 points, and we hold Ga State under 40%, to win it 70-62! Code:
Donald Dufour's college career is over. He has a broken arm and is out 41 days. That hurts us a lot towards the end here. February 17th, 2008 Texas A&M-Corpus Chrisit(9-15) at Campbell(9-16) Dufour being out sure hurts us here... we lose 49-45. They shoot 35%, but we shoot 28%... Code:
Two more games left, we probably need to pull them both out to make the conference tournament. February 20th, 2008 Campbell(9-17) at Jacksonville State(10-13) Trusty scores a lot but doesn't shoot so well. We probably aren't goign to win 10 this year. Code:
February 23rd, 2008 Campbell(9-18) at Mercer(14-13) 82-52 loss. The end! Code:
Code:
Code:
Code:
Trusty, Chapple, Eberly, Stanfill, and McAlpine show promise as a very good starting 5 next year, and it will be the first lineup to fully feature players I recruited. |

There's two, but one is worth a lot of mention. Donald Dufour started every game over the last four years as a Fighting Camel until his recent injury. He started to become quite a good shooter as a senior, and he holds numerous career records(as the only 4 year starter that's cheap though) Code:
Not as much to say about Thomas Hardy Code:
Dufour leaves with 1484 points, easily first, Stanfill is 2nd on the active list with 443. Dufour is also first in rebounds, but that is a crock. Stanfill is 1 behind with two years to go. He is first in his career in steals, 2 more than Anibal Martinez, and 50 more thanany active player(he had 93) Outside of the points, those stats are rather worthless, but I like records ![]() |

Troy State runs through the conference tournament in the Atlantic Sun, #2 Samford came in as the runner up, finishing 20-14, maybe enough for an NIT bid?
Troy State earns the 14 seed in the east and will play UConn. Samford doesn't get the NIT bid, so it's all up to Troy State. UConn doesn't give them a chance... 87-41 and it's over for the Atlantic Sun conference. Of note in the NCAA tournament is a 15 seed, Santa Clara, in the elite 8. They have to play the #1 team in the nation, Stanford, to try to make the final four. Stanford wins a close one though, ending the cinderella run. The final four pits 1 seed Stanford vs 1 seed Arizona (#1 vs #2 nationally) and 2 seed Oklahoma vs 9 seed Southern Cal. Arizona ends up beating Oklahoma to win the national championship! Amazingly enough, Arizona has now won 3 straight national titles! (remember last year was quick simmed). No one from Campbell is going to get drafted, but hey, that's no suprise. |

2008-09 - The Quest for 10 wins
Our recruiting class from last year was ranked #102. I'm suprised by this, as I only got one good player that I am really happy about, and just 2 total. We lose our assistant that we hired last year, and get a $30,000 assistant Defense: 45, Offense: 16. Bleh. We fill out our schedule w/ teams mostly around our prestige level... no need to try any harder teams this year like we did last year with colorado and the like. Here's our history... just making no progress here, despite getting what seem like great recruiting classes for this level: Code:
Recruiting Preview We have 3 scholarships available this year. We're losing a SF, a SG, and a Center, the Center is useful, Joseph Menard, the other two are little used backups. We could definitely use a center, this freshman we got this year probably won't measure up. A PF is still a need, espicially with McAlpine graduating after next year. Really at this point, I'll take anything but a PG. The #30 Center is from overseas, I think I've got him, but it's costing me a lot to find out... I hope to have the lead on 3 guys though, and it'll be worth it if it works. WAIT. NOT OVERSEASE. CANADA?! Canada is too expensive. :P But, we have a big recruit landed! Code:
Good inside game, ok hands, good rebounding and defense.. that looks about perfect to me. We go ahead and redshirt both our signings from last year. |

Our shooters all improved nicely, we're not going to shoot the 3 much this year though, two guys can do it but they are pretty far back on the depth chard. Code:
Our post defense definitely suffers a little bit, and Chapple's perimeter D is weak. Wonder if that is causing a lot of my problems.. Up to 9 guys could get a reasonable amount of minutes this year, but after the first 6 there is a noticible drop off in talet. Time to bring it: November 18th, 2008 High Point(0-0) at Campbell(0-0) Nothing like a cupcake to get you off to a good start. 19 from Trusty, 16 points/15 boards from Stanfill, go Camels! Code:
November 21st, 2008 Army(0-0) at Campbell(1-0) Army shows us it won't be a cakewalk... they beat us by 8, Eberly is the big producer with 15 points, Trusty sruggled bad today. Code:
November 25th, 2008 Campbell (1-1) at Norfolk State(0-2) This one just shouldn't have been close at all... we shot 58%, outrebounded them, and only turned it over 4 mroe times than they did, Norfolk State shot a little better from the line and made 3 more 3s, and that turned a statistical blowout into a 2 point game. Trusty and Stanfill were big today. Code:
That's it for November. Code:

December 2008
We're still in a big lead for the last two recruits we really want, they're going to have to walk on somewhere bigger or come play for us it seems... we've offered a scholly, but noooo, they want to go to Duke. December 3rd, 2008 Stetson(2-2) at Campbell(2-1) We open in conference early this year. Unfortunately its with a loss. 82-59 blowout. today its about the turnovers... Code:
December 6th, 2008 Campbell(2-2) at Stetson (3-2) They jsut crushed us at our place, and we have to go right back their way to play them... It's closer... and oh wow it's painful. Instead of posting the stats, I'll post the closing play by play in parts. Code:
A steal after a 3, a foul and we go to the line, choke on the 1-and-1, but get the offensive rebound and have a jumper from the FT line to win it... and we couldn't come through on any of it... December 8th, 2008 Campbell(2-3) at UNC Greensboro (2-1) In 3 of the last four games we have outshot our opponent and lost... Code:
I increase our 3 point frequency, we're shooting about 35% as a team, not bad. December 10th, 2008 Mercer(2-4) at Campbell(2-4) We pick up a big home win, 54-43. We both shoot like crap, 35% to 32%, the difference is the boards, 13 from McAlpine, 11 from Stanfill, and we outrebound Mercer 45-29. Code:
We have a problem with Demetrius Chapple. He is out 52 days with an injury... injury prone guys in college suck. December 17th, 2008 Campbell(3-4) at Belmont(5-4) We lose on the road without Chapple. It's 74-59. Today we get badly outrebounded, we lose despite shooting 48% to their 42%... thanks entirely to the rebounds. Code:
December 24th, 2008 Campbell(3-5) at Jacksonville State(4-4) Another heartbreaker. Today, its turnovers. We shoot 50%, 43% from 3, outrebound them by 4, but 17 to 10 turnovers, and we lose 77-75. Code:
December 27th, 2008 Campbell(3-6) at Troy State(4-6) Another close loss... 81-76. What do I need to do? 27 points from Trusty, a double double from Stanfill. Code:
That ends December... looking for wins in 2009! Code:

January 2009
We've got our recruiting class for next year! Code:
I'm very excited about Curry, rebounding is his weak spot, but hopefully his scoring potential and defense will more than make up for it. Code:
Hopefully a good scorer, and an average defender and rebounder... for my worst recruit, not bad. Godin is 172nd overall, Cury 235th, and Markham is 293rd. This should be a top 100 class for sure. January 3rd, 2009 Campbell(3-7) at Robert Morris(4-6) Another painfully close game, but this time we come out on the right end! 62-61. Code:
January 8th, 2009 Texas Southern(3-8) at Campbell(4-7) Here's a rare game where we get outshot badly(46% to 39%) yet win because we force a ton of turnovers... 20 to 7(the turnover numbers, that is). Code:
January 10th, 2009 Campbell(5-7) at Florida Atlantic(6-7) fla Atlantic is 4-1 in conference play, and they beat us pretty easilyi, 81-66. Code:
January 12th, 2009 Georgia State(5-9) at Campbell(5-8) Georgia State is also 4-1 in conference, and wow, a 99-71 result shows that they're a hell of a lot better than we are. Code:
We are 1-7 in conference play now, badly back in last place. January 14th, 2009 Central Florida(8-9) at Campbell(5-9) Stanfill fouls out in only 7 minutes of play, and Central Florida's center puts up 33 points on us... despite that, we pull out an important win, 77-72. Code:
January 19th, 2009 Campbell(6-9) at Arkansas Pine-Bluff(3-10) A saaaad sad road defeat. Code:
January 21st, 2009 Campbell(6-10) at Georgia State(8-9) We expect to get smashed here. We lose by 12. Code:
Today its about the turnovers.. I have motion set to 0, we're nto running around much, that's for sure. But the ball goes over to the other team all the tiem anyway. Perhaps a theme for future recruits? January 28th, 2009 Jacksonville(13-4) at Campbell(6-11) Jacksvonille has been great this year, and us blowing them out of the water comes as more than just a slight suprise to me, but I will take it! We shot 53% and limited them to 36%, shot 26 more FTs, and didn't go nuts from 3. Code:
January 31st, 2009 Campbell(7-11) at Mercer(6-15) Mercer is just bad. but hey, so are we! Lets see what happens. Chapple is back from his injury, Julius McDonnel played respectable in his abscence and is now my 7th man. We shoot what must be a record for us, 61.4% from the field, 86.4% from the line, 3-4 from 3! Just not missing... it's a 76-62 win for the camels! Trusty and Chapple look good in that lineup together today. Code:
that is the month of January, and we still have a good shot at 10 wins, and we'd like to make the confrence tourney this year. Code:

February, 2009
So,what is the worst thing that could happen to this team? Clinton Trusty is suspended for academic reasons? Yep, that is probably the worst thing that could happen to this team. February 3rd, 2009 NC A&T at Campbell Our first game withoutTrusty is one we should win, but we choke. It's 64-61 A&T. Code:
February 7th, 2009 LipsComb(9-15) at Campbell(8-12) With 5:00 left its 73-64 Lipscomb(who? I don't know either). In the next two minutes we score 6 straight, 73-70 with 3:00 to go. We take the lead 74-73 with 1:22 left. With 13 seconds left we go up 76-73, completing a 12-0 run over the final 5 minutes.. They do get 2 poitns from the line with 1 second left, and we win 76-75! Today's hero? Backup PG Tony Marceau. 21 points in 24 minutes off the bench. Code:
We have 7 games left. A single win gives us 10 on the year, and would be our best ever. February 9th, 2009 Campbell(9-12) at Samford(12-9) Samford is just a far better team, they're 9-3 in conference play after beating us. Code:
February 11th, 2009 Campbell(9-13) at Jacksonville(17-5) Another team we don't want to see. But what an upset!! Campbell 63, Jacksonville 52!! We shoot 50% and hold them to 40%, outrebound them and they foul us way too much. Our 10th win of the season! A first! Code:
This was a *very* costly win. Demetrius Chapple has a Hernia. It will sideline him for 59 days. Henry Stanfill has torn a quadricep muscle. He is out 66 days. February 14th, 2009 Jacksonville State(10-13) at Campbell(10-13) We can't win missing 3 starters... we only lose by 3 though, 67-64. Code:
February 18th, 2009 Florida Atlantic(12-12) at Campbell(10-14) This one we are able to squeeze out, we just need to play the messy games. our 40% shooting is more than good enough, and we outrebound them 48-33 in the win. Code:
February 21st, 2009 Samford(16-9) at Campbell(11-14) One last confeernce win in either of our last two games could put us in the conference tournament. today we play a team that's 12-3 in conference... a tough task. Adn we are not up to it, losing by 21. Code:
Menard is an amazing rebounder. February 25th, 2009 Troy State(12-14) at Campbell(11-15) A tough 3 point loss assures that we will not play in postseason this year. Code:
March 1st, 2009 Campbell(11-16) at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi(8-19) With this game on March 1, we get Trusty back for one last game. Trusty scores 23, Menard 20/10 boards, but look, we found a way to lose. We just got outgunned from 3.. they went 11-24 from behind the arc! It was 74-72 with 3 minutes to go... neither team scored again. Code:
It isn't saying much, but, its our best season ever. 11-17! This level 1 stuff with crappy teams in good recruiting areas is tough. |

Here's the end of the regular season update:
Code:
No dominant teams this year, and amazingly 7 of the 8 teams on the conference tournament had winning records in conferenc.e Code:
Code:
Trusty's 17.5 PPG is awesome. His 350 points is the 4th best single season in Camels history, and he missed 8 games. Had he played every game and kept that average he would have destroyed all team records. |

#4 seed Stetson wins the Atlantic Sun Tournament.
Stetson is a #14 seed in the NCAAs, they will play Kansas. Regular Season champion Samford earns a #9 seed in the NIT! They will play Tulsa in round 1. Samford loses 88-75 at Tulsa. Kansas beats Stetson 66-58. Arizona was a 5 seed this year, but still made it to the final 8 before losing out to Iowa. The final four pits 5 seed Iowa and 1 seed Duke. 1 seed UCLA plays 10 seed Syracuse. Iowa is ranked 9th despite the 5 seed, and duke is ranked 5th, so that should be better than it looks. The lower seeds win both games, and Iowa goes on to beat Syracuse 84-83(too bad I don't save play by play for all games). Iowa is the 2008-09 National Champion! For Campbell: SG Julius McDonnel is on the Freshman all conference team. C Henry Stanfill is 2nd team all-conference. All of our seniors are going to go undrafted. |

Oops, didn't get the playtime I expected last night. Here are our graduating seniors, none are much to look at.
Joseph Menard did start some and was a good rebounder, but he was always overshadowed by someone else. Code:
Code:
Code:
Team Records It's still early enough in this career that many records will be broken, but late enough that they're worth mentioning. Daniel McAlpine broke his own record with 63 blocked shots last year. He has the top 3 seasons of blocks for us. McAlpine will likely become the all time best offensive rebounder at Campbell in his last year this year. Henry Stanfill became the all time rebounds leader at Campbell. He will set a record that will be tough to break in his last season coming up. On to 2009-10! |
