OT: Poker > Work

Woe is me.

Up until five last night, because I just couldn't pull myself away from the poker table. I got bumped out of the no-limit hold 'em tournament in a somewhat disappointing tenth place out of 22 (after getting my AdKd cracked by a straight). But afterwards, in the cash game that inevitably erupts, things were just too good to leave... three pretty loose players staying in lots of pots, and lots of chances to pick up pots on kicker advantages. A nice spread-limit game, and here I am at work on Friday, just running on fumes.

It's worth it. I'll limp through the work day and shortchange my employer every time, if it means an extra few hours at that table.

And tomorrow, we're heading back to AC for the day.

Since I don't live near a casino I've never done this in a B&M place, but, there have been many times that I have been on a rush at the partypoker or pokerstars table and just keep playing as long as I'm hot and end up going to work on 3-4 hours sleep max. Fun stuff

What are all the poker sites? I always see 2 letter abbreviations but the only place I know is Poker Stars (which I play a few times a week).

What is AC? and what are a few of the others?

I think AC is Atlantic City. UB = Ultimate Bet (my fave), PP = Party Poker.

Well, I pulled the bone-headed move of not turning on my alarm clock before going to bed last night. I woke up 45 minutes after my usual train had already left and realized that I'd be a minimum of 90 minutes late even if I scrambled to catch the next one. I just called out sick instead, and have devoted the day to playing poker online. Doing pretty good at the Party 2/4's as i type.

I won't object to the suggestion that I may have a problem, but I will defend myself here.

Regrettably, I just couldn't get much to play last night, and I had only won two pots in the first three hours of play. This had me about where I started, with just below my initial stake of $10,000 in chips. With 22 players having contracted to 11, this made me one of the small stacks.

When I drew the AKs, I reraised an early raiser (who raised the $2000 BB by the minimum of another $2000) with something like an additional $5000 in chips -- hoping to get him heads up, with a strong chance to dominate his hand. Instead, I saw two more players call my bet, plus the original raiser. At that point, I'd have a shot to win the four-way pot and quadruple my stack (and get right into the thick of things) but I had also significantly increased my chances of being busted out.

The table with a jack and two rags, then a king, and then a nine - alowing the first caller of my all-in to complete a straight to the king -- he called my admittedly modest all-in reraise with a QT, unsuited. The original raiser had a pocket pair of nines (and called all the way) and the final caller mucked what I suspect was a suited ace.

I don't fault my play in the hand, though I have give it some thought. I certainly didn't play too aggressively (I did absolutely everything I could) but I might have survived by just caling the original raise with half my stack. Looking back, though, I'd still go all-in 10 out of 10 times there.
